I’m a tinkerer. Especially when it comes to vape devices, and vape kits. But I’m also well-aware of how important it is for new vapers to make the adjustment from smoking to something more involved like vaping. And yeah, high wattages, coil resistances and the like can intimidate newcomers – possibly scaring them back to cigarettes.
Thank goodness for devices like the new Vaptio C-II pen/tube-style mod, which features no screen, no adjustments, and no elements to get in the way of simplicity. Heck, it doesn’t even take replaceable batteries; the 3,000 mAh internal cell is all that’s needed, and it comes fully charged. But that’s not to say it doesn’t have what it takes to perform at a high level. Just maybe not as high as the the Vaptio N1 Pro we’re in the middle of reviewing.
At first glance, the Vaptio C-II seems a little TOO simple. With just a single fire button and charge port, experienced vapers might feel out of sorts without something to tweak and adjust. The included C-II tank is designed specifically for use with this direct wattage device, so the experience really is as simple as fill it, vape it and enjoy.
However, no one will complain about the simply awesome finish of the Vaptio C-II, which has a classy, understated, but VERY comfortable black coating, which allows for comfortable, slip-free grip throughout the day. If you long for the velvety softness of those original eGo pens, you’re going to love handling the Vaptio C-II.
While I wish the plastic fire button was made of something a little more substantial, it does feel good to fire, with a nice throw and reassuring clickiness. In turn, the stainless steel 510 connection is press-fit, but seems to sit firmly atop the mod, with massive airflow channels built in to ensure things don’t get too warm.
Though the C-II isn’t presented as a “beginner” mod, there are definitely some nods to that user base. Most notably, through the auto shutoff feature, which turns the C-II completely off after 10 minutes of idle time. While I can imagine this is to prevent any excessive pocket/purse firing, it may also become extremely annoying for more experienced vapers who want to control these features.
The included C-II tank is a nice match for the mod, with the same soft finish, and user-friendly design. We haven’t used it extensively, but it seems to fit the purpose of the C-II mod. We plan on testing other tanks and RDAs, as well, to see how they perform on this non-adjustable platform, but for the target audience, it’s likely best to stay brand-specific here.
Advanced users will probably want to branch out from the included tank, as the mod itself can reach a 100-watt/4.2 volt output max – not bad considering the compact battery contained within. Whether or not the device hits these limits remains to be seen, but it seems pretty powerful all around.
The spacious 5mL tank comes with a pair of proprietary coils – the 129A and 180A. Both of these coils seem fairly standard, and both read at 0.25 ohms. However, that’s all we know for now. The included documentation does not clearly explain the differentiation between the offerings, so our testing (and some extensive YouTube research) will have to suffice.
One concern we have lies with the 1-amp charging, which led to a 4+ hour charge time. Given the advancements in battery technology, this seems excessive. Two-amp charging would have made this much more convenient – a big point for a device focused on convenience and simplicity.
Despite its beginner-friendly nature, we have a lot of questions about the Vaptio C-II mod and tank kit. But we’re hoping the device provides the answers we seek, since the market needs more beginner-friendly, simplified, yet still powerful mods. Our verdict will be posted here soon, so check back over the next few weeks to see the results!
