Readers of Spinfuel VAPE have probably noticed a trend in a lot of our sub-ohm tank reviews – the desperate cries for the inclusion of RBA decks in tank kits (or at least having them available as a separate purchase). It’s not that we don’t like the myriad coils that come with these tanks; their quality continues to rise, in both flavor and vapor production, and we love seeing them become more durable.

But, like any consumable item, these coils can get pricey over time – especially if you have a steady rotation of three or more proprietary tanks. Plus, even the best companies are prone to shipping a few duds from time to time. So, to save a few bucks (and maybe boost the performance of specific tank design) RBA heads are a great way to increase the value of your investment.

Still, the reality is that precious few vape tanks come with RBA heads anymore. So, when they do, we take notice. Though there aren’t many to choose from, the ones highlighted below represent a fantastic cross-section of add-ons that enhance your existing tanks and offer some economical ways to keep the vapor flowing, even when your prebuilt coils have passed their prime.

Our Top 7 Spectacular RBA-Enabled Sub-Ohm Tanks - SPINFUEL VAPE

SMOK TFV12 Prince Sub-Ohm Tank

With the V12 RBA-T Rebuildable Head

What better way to start this article than with the undisputed champion of Spinfuel VAPE’s 2017 “best sub-ohm tank” voting? The SMOK TFV12 Prince remains one of our favorite products and has coils that marry the flavor and vapor that tank users have sought for years.

But, thanks to the fantastic V12 RBA-T Rebuildable Head  (sold separately), the Prince has become a standard-bearing rebuildable atomizer, as well. With ample build space, a proven dual-post design, and outstanding juice flow to the coils, fans of the Prince won’t miss a beat using a rebuildable setup. Plus, after months of using it, I have let to experience any leaking.

Best of all, the RBA is roughly the same shape and width as the standard Prince coils, so there’s no loss in juice capacity, and no difference in performance.

FreeMax FireLuke

FreeMax FireLuke RBA

Expanded “bubble glass” tank sections are pretty common nowadays. But the FreeMax FireLuke still stands out with a gargantuan tank section that more closely resembles a fishbowl than a vape device. But those who looked past the gum machine aesthetic found themselves enjoying a smooth, flavor-focused tank. And they likely also enjoyed the included RBA tank section once their coils when kaput. Possibly even more so.

Why? Because while the FireLuke coils were certainly good enough, it’s more than evident that the RBA section is worth the price of admission on its own. The FireLuke may be a sub-ohm tank on the surface, but this is very much an RTA at heart. All of my countless builds on this deck have worked flawlessly, with absolutely no leaking or irregular wicking. Just simple builds, and flavorful clouds, first drop to last.

FreeMax FireLuke Sub-Ohm Tank specs:

  • 25mm Diameter
  • 5mL Maximum Juice Capacity

IJOY MAXO V12 Tank Atomizer

While RBA decks are always welcome in tank kits, it’s rare to see too many vary beyond the tried-and-true Velocity dual-post format. But it’s always nicer to see companies think outside the box – companies like iJOY, which not only added an RBA to its MAXO V12, but it made it an innovative one.

The included V12-RT6 rebuildable head is centered on a three-point, triple-post build deck that rivals dedicated RBAs for unique styling. With three posts, and dual terminals on each, iJOY has created a veritable playground for creative build enthusiasts.

Of course, none of these matters if the MAXO RBA doesn’t perform. But indeed, it does, with high-wattage capabilities and cloud production that rivals most competition RDAs on the market. If you passed on the iJOY MAXO when it first arrived a year ago, the fantastic, truly unique RBA head should make you reconsider it the next time you venture online for new gear.

OBS V Tank

OBS V Tank RBA Rebuildable Atomizer Kit

I honestly don’t know why OBS isn’t a bigger name among vapers in 2018. Not only is their Crius line of RTAs fantastic, but their entry into the burgeoning sub-ohm cloud machine battles – the OBS V – was a legitimate contender for the title. And it was made even better by its optional RBA head.

On their own, the wide array OCC coils were fine, and performed well at VERY high wattages. But OBS’ lineage with rebuildable tanks is evident with the RBA deck, which turns the OBS V into something entirely more flavorful, not to mention a hell of a lot cloudier.

This two-post, Velocity-style deck isn’t the largest or most innovative build deck available, but what it lacks in creativity it makes up for in sheer performance. To this day, long after my stash of OCC coils ran dry, I use the OBS V regularly. And I enjoy improved flavor, massive vapor and long-lasting coils, even when I take my vaping well past 100 watts. Absolutely essential for anyone who wants to maximize the value of their OBS V tank.

OBS V Sub-Ohm Tank specs:

  • 6mL Juice Reservoir
  • 26mm Diameter
  • Superior Stainless-Steel Construction
  • Glass Reinforcement
  • High-Powered OCC Coil Structure
  • 0.15ohm V12 OCC Core – rated for 60-150W, recommended 70-90W
  • 0.15ohm V10 OCC Core – rated for 60-100W, recommended 70-90W
  • 0.15ohm V8 OCC Core – rated for 90-180W, recommended 110-160W
  • 0.15ohm V4 OCC Core – rated for 120-260W, recommended 140-230W
  • RBA Head – Not Included
  • Dynamic Airflow Circulation System
  • Quad Bottom Airflow Control

Advken Dominator

Two-Post, Single Coil RBA Head - Included w/Tank

One RBA-enabled sub-ohm tank that I was hotly anticipating was the upcoming Advken Dominator, which has a lot of nice features going for it. Mostly for its simplicity – the Dominator isn’t looking to be the biggest, baddest, or any other superlative. It just wants to be the most reliable, versatile mid-wattage tank in your collection.

The straightforward Dominator comes with its own coils, of course. But it also comes armed with a simplified single-coil RBA head that aims to be as user-friendly as the rest of the package. Maybe a dual-post, single-coil arrangement on a 24mm tank isn’t the most innovative setup.

But it works as well for vapers who don’t push their tanks to the stratosphere, Advken may have just created a true, “do it all” sub-ohm tank that is begging to be the most reliable one in your collection.

Advken Dominator Sub-Ohm Tank specs:

  • 24mm Diameter
  • 4.5mL Maximum Juice Capacity
  • Superior Stainless-Steel Construction
  • High-Grade Glass Reinforcement
  • Innovative Sliding Top-Fill Design
  • Dual Adjustable Airflow Control at Base
  • Advken EC Coil System – Vertical Coil Structure
  • 0.16ohm Quad EC Coil – rated for 60-80W
  • Two-Post, Single Coil RBA Head – Included
  • 510 ULTEM Wide Bore Drip Tip
  • 510 Connection
  • Available in Stainless Steel, Black, Rainbow

Advken Dominator Sub-Ohm Tank contents:

  • 1 Dominator Sub-Ohm Tank
  • 1 0.16ohm EC Coil
  • 1 RBA Head – Two-Post
  • 1 Screwdriver
  • 1 Cotton Pad
  • 1 Prebuilt Coil
  • Spare Parts & O-Rings

SMOK Spirals Flavor Tank

A two-post design Spirals RBA Head Included

Here’s a sentence you rarely hear around our offices – “Why didn’t SMOK promote that tank more?” But it applies to the niche, altogether different SMOK Spirals tank, which arrived with little fanfare, and quickly got lost amid a new barrage of Beasts, Kings and Princes. But this is a shame, because – while it isn’t quite a world-beater, the RBA-enabled Spirals is a quality device for lower-wattage flavor enthusiasts.

The SMOK Spirals coils were adequate for the job, but to get the most out of the Spirals’ flavor-first design, the included RBA head was what allowed the tank to sing. Using a simplified single-coil setup, the Spirals is best used for nuanced juices with layered flavors, when you’re more interested in tasting your vapor, not obscuring a room with it.

The Spirals’ narrowed chimney and slender drip tip only concentrates the flavor more, making it a fantastic contender on its own, and a must-have for low-to-mid-wattage vapers. If you missed this under-the-radar tank, now is the time to hunt it down.

SMOK Spirals Plus Sub-Ohm Tank specs:

  • 24.5mm Diameter
  • 4mL Juice Capacity
  • Superior Stainless-Steel Construction
  • Pyrex Glass Reinforcement
  • Flavor-Focused Structural Design
  • Spirals Coil Structure – Large Sized Coil Heads
  • 0.6ohm Spirals Dual Core – rated for 18 to 35W
  • 0.3ohm Spirals Dual Core
  • Spirals RBA Head – Single-Coil Configuration
  • Threaded Top-Fill Method
  • Quad Adjustable Bottom Airflow
  • Elongated Wide Bore Drip Tip
  • 510 Connection

SMOK Spirals Plus Sub-Ohm Tank contents:

  • 1 Spirals Plus Tank
  • 1 0.6ohm Spirals Dual Core
  • 1 0.3ohm Spirals Dual Core
  • 1 Spirals RBA Head
  • 1 Replacement Glass Tube
  • Spare Parts

Wismec Reux RTA Tank

A WISMEC SUB-OHM/RTA TANK

Our list comes to an end with the Reux, a tank from Wismec (and longtime collaborator JayBo) which – quite honestly – never really got its due. Originally positioned as a potential flagship to rival SMOK’s endless line of cloud-chasing tanks, the Reux aimed to challenge the throne with massive capacity, innovative RX coil heads, and an ultra-versatile build deck.

With three possible deck options, the Reux offered users a great array of options. The spring-loaded clamped dual-post of the included RX Deck 1 was more than enough to satisfy build enthusiasts. But the option to purchase additional decks in various configurations showed that Wismec was serious about giving vapers a true tank system, capable of a wide range of vaping styles.

Though it’s only a year old, vaping is a rapidly evolving industry. And Wismec was way ahead of the curve with the multipurpose Reux. From its unique build decks, to its fantastic, easy-to-use detachable structure, the Reux may not be a commonly mentioned vape tank. But it probably should be.

Wismec REUX Sub-Ohm RTA Tank specs:

  • 25mm Diameter

  • High-Quality Stainless-Steel Construction
  • Pyrex Glass Reinforcement

WRAP UP

Our Top 7 spectacular RBA-enabled tank list was a fun one to write. But even ardent RBA fans like myself probably missed a bunch along the way. If there’s an RBA tank we should know about (or simply forgot in our deadline rush) let us know in the comments, or on our social media pages. We’d love to hear from you!

Keep in mind, if your next Sub-Ohm Tank purchase is for a tank that either comes with an RBA head, or has an optional RBA you can purchase, you’ll wind up with the best of both worlds. Building on your RBA Deck is a great way to start off the hobby of coil building for RDA/RTA/RDTA Tanks.
