Introduction of the iJoy Avenger 270 Starter Kit

First, a question; Do you find it at all confusing when vape mods are named in ways like the iJoy Avenger 270 234W TC Starter Kit? Unless you are well-versed in the ways of naming vape gear products you wouldn’t know that the number ‘270’ stands for 20700 cells, so you wonder if the iJoy Avenger is 270W, or 234W, or sometimes both. At least I did at first, when the new 2X700 cells began creeping into the marketplace. In any case, make no mistake, this is a dual 20700 cell, 234W vape mod (with included adapters you could use 18650 cells) … one that talks, or listens, or something… wait. I got it, it contains a Voice Control System. Interesting, right?

“ELEMENT

Maybe. But I have to honest. I have always disliked talking to inanimate objects, particularly smartphones and computers. I don’t like asking my iPhone to do anything, I’d rather open whatever app I need and type it in. Same with my Mac. And man, I truly despise dictation. I once tried dictating a review for some Apple related product in the early 00’s and swore I’d never do it again.

The iJoy Avenger follows in the recent design trend that reminds me of the iJoy Diamond PD270 and OBS Bat, even the Vaporesso Switcher. Like these three vape mods, the Avenger is handsome, sophisticated, and comfortable to grip and hold. Like the Avenger, the Diamond, OBS Bat and Switcher are available now at Element Vape.

The colors the iJoy Avenger 270 is available in, at this time, include matte black, champagne, gold, mirrored rainbow, purple, green, blue, and a mirror stainless-steel. My test unit is the mirrored rainbow. The exterior finishes are done really well, nice dark colors, well saturated, and glossy.

Feature Highlights of the iJoy Avenger 270 Starter Kit

The iJoy Avenger 270 234W TC Starter Kit pushes the technological prowess of this maturing industry, featuring a dual 20700 platform with a built-in Voice Control System and streamlined, modern design elements for the Mod and the included Sub-Ohm Avenger Tank.

The Avenger 270 234W Box Mod offers a large “RGB” firing panel with LED Light functionality. By using the dual 20700 battery platform (sold separately) the Avenger has the combination of high wattage and a longer lasting battery life, or so it seemed to me anyway.

Tested for a time with both 20700 cells and the 18650 cells, my normal vaping habits showed that the fully charged 20700 cells outlasted the 18650 cells by more than an hour. Your mileage may differ, but it was the same result for a week.

iJoy Avenger – Voice Control

The real achievement for the iJoy Avenger (and the upcoming SMOK I-PRIV) is a Voice Control System, that allows users to make adjustments to the device through a series of voice commands. Whether or not it comes in handy or is a short-lived gimmick has yet to be decided. We’ll need to see many more voice controlled, or voice activated vape mods before we know if this technology has legs.

Included in the contents of the Starter Kit is a list of all the current commands the iJoy Avenger can respond to. With firmware upgrades it’s entirely possible that iJoy could add more, if needed. So far, the list of commands are basic, surely not to be mistaken for AI (artificial intelligence). All the iJoy Avenger can really do is react to basic I/O commands.

Personal Observations on the iJoy Avenger 270

So, what are some of the commands you can say to the Avenger?

Hello, iJoy – (Turns the device on and is needed before any other command)

Lock Device

Shut Down

Turn on light

Change color (LED lights)

Music light

Auto Wattage

Auto Power

Unlock Device

Power High

Lower Low

Light Off

Are any of these commands useful, a gimmick, or the beginning of a new paradigm shift in the world of vape mods? Will Vapers in 2019 control their entire vape experience by voicing commands?  You know, I honestly don’t know. I didn’t need it (all the commands can be done manually just as easily.) Watch Zophie’s video here on this page to see how often the Avenger needed certain commands repeated, or for that matter, how often Zophie needed to say “Hello iJoy”. Yea, it’s like that.

I’m not criticizing the idea of voice control, it might work, and some of you out there might truly love it. I don’t like to break the silence when I’m working, and I certainly don’t like drawing attention to myself, which is exactly what would happen if I suddenly gave my vape mod a command in a room full of people. But, who knows, I just might be “that guy”, and most people may not have these issues with it.

In any case, the very affordable price tag for this very nice high-wattage starter kit means that no one is paying a premium for the voice command system, and I definitely like that. iJoy didn’t tack on an extra $10 for the voice module, which they probably could have done, so… Bravo iJoy!

All in all, the iJoy Avenger is comfortable to hold onto, easy to use with a solid firing panel and responsive and sure adjustment buttons. Battery life is fine, no more or less than other, similar, vape mods.

I strongly recommend that you take a look at the full Specs and Contents in the Drop Down Boxes in this review.

Zophie Commands The Avenger!

The iJoy Avenger features a maximum wattage output of 234W and is equipped with a comprehensive temperature control suite along with fine-tuning adjustments.  The Avenger features something called “Unique Custom User Mode”.

The iJoy Avenger Sub-Ohm

The new Avenger Sub-Ohm Tank is a high-end sub-ohm. It has a decent 25mm chassis width with dual bottom airflow slots and an improved X3 Coil System using innovative wood pulp materials and mesh designs. After reading the manual, and going over the specs, I had reservations about the X3 Coil System, especially the whole “wood pulp” thing, but I found these coils, mesh and pulp materials, provided an excellent vape, with full flavor fidelity and huge clouds of vapor. I am very satisfied with the performance of this sub-ohm, though not so sure how often I would use it as a “Reviewer”.

If I was the average Vaper and purchased the iJoy Avenger, if I’m honest with myself, I would probably not have any reason to venture outside the included Sub-Ohm tank. With 234W and an ultra-low resistance of 0.06-ohm, you could use any atomizer you wanted.

As for the coils included in the Avenger Kit, the 0.15ohm X3-Mesh, with a centralized core made from wood pulp and cotton with a mesh design, does flavor about 10% better than the X3-C1S, but the X3-C1S uses similar material in its construction, but in a more traditional coil design. My advice would be to test both before buying X3 Coil Replacements.

iJoy Avenger Starter Kit - The Bottom Line

I like the iJoy Avenger, even though the Voice Control System is just this side of gimmicky. I don’t use the Voice Control anymore, hell, I used it less than a day. It does what it claims to do, but I can do without it. It’s the other factors that sold me on the Avenger.

This is a well-made vape mod and an outstanding sub-ohm tank. The selling price at Element Vape makes the Avenger Starter Kit an affordable kit for any Vaper. If you’re ready to move to the larger 20700 platform, or stay with the tried and true 18650, the Avenger allows it. The grip is comfortable, the OLED screen a sheer delight, the fire panel sure and true. In the world of today’s mods and tanks, the iJoy Avenger 270 234W TC Starter Kit is a solid option. I’d go so far as to give it a grade of A-.
