There appears to be a touchscreen mod resurgence happening in the vaping world. After these devices began popping up a few years back, they were largely lambasted for being overcomplicated, not to mention oversized. However, we’ll be reviewing no fewer than three new touchscreen mods in the next few weeks, including this one – the HCigar Towis T180.
The first thing that jumps out about the Towis is how different it is from traditional touchscreen mods, which are typically square and boxy, presumably to accommodate the technology. However, the Towis – while not small by any means – does appear to be more ergonomically designed.
Instead of a dense box design, HCigar opted for a taller, curved format, with a top-positioned trigger, and an asymmetrical touch-sensitive display, creating a refreshingly different take on what we’ve come to expect from touchscreen mods.
The HCigar Towis looks as it if can marry the substantial heft and durability of larger mods, with a pocketability and comfortable use. Of course, we can’t confirm that until it arrives, but the smooth, contoured zinc alloy implies a much more portable device.
Digging deeper, the HCigar Towis has some interesting things going on under the hood. This dual-18650 mod is powered by the proprietary XT180 chipset, which is supposed to bring an intuitive user interface to the table.
In a welcome addition, the Towis has a full slate of protection features – not only when in use, but also on the touchscreen, to prevent stray touches from inadvertently cranking up the wattage. I can attest to being “that guy” who casually ignored the screen lock, and took a 140-watt blast of heat and cotton.
(More than once.)
This board can produce up to 180 watts of straight power, and also has the now-standard temperature control suite for nickel, titanium and stainless-steel coils. No word yet on TCR, bypass modes, or any customization features, but we’re confident the touchscreen will be put to use beyond wallpapers and menu navigation. Our fingers are crossed.
One minor question is how the USB port will be used. We anticipate firmware upgrades and possible screen customization, but it remains to be seen if onboard charging will be supported, or if it the residual heat would potentially damage the sensitive touchscreen interface.
In a suddenly crowding touchscreen vape mod market, HCigar might have created a nifty alternative to the standard box form factor with the Towis T180. But it’s all moot if the vape quality isn’t there. Given what the company has done with its other recent releases, we’re willing to bet the Towis will have some unique features to consider when its released.
We expect the HCigar Towis T180 to arrive any day now – stay tuned for our detailed review. And, while not another Evolv DNA mod like the HCigar VT75D, we expect a another good device from this fine company.
