Although we’re not quite ready to present our review, there are two points that need to be said about the Joyetech ESPION Starter Kit before we go on.
1: The Starter Kit comes with the ProCore X sub-ohm tank. In its default packaging the glass tank is the 2mL option. Inside the box, however, is a larger 4.5mL glass tank. Since we’re not restricted by any silly TPD requirements we immediately set about removing the 2mL tank for the 4.5mL. The problem was removing the glass tank. Traditional methods proved fruitless and only after using a very sharp knife to pry the glass off (destroying the O-ring in the process), were we able to set the ProCore X up with the larger glass and coil extension piece. Luckily, the kit comes with extra O-rings and seals.
2: The ESPION Mod is marketed as a mod with a “business” design. Sure enough, the pinstripe texture of the body, the smooth rectangular shape and size, and the flush stainless-steel side fire button results in a dead serious look and feel. For a box mod, it is sophisticated.
The Joyetech ESPION with the ProCore X atomizer is designed with a 1.45-inch large TFT color display with an unusually user-friendly interface. Initial usage of the mod and tank show the ESPION to be as good of a performer as it is good looking.
The ESPION, available in black, blue, and gunmetal, is powered by high-amp dual replaceable 18650 cells that will output a maximum of 200w, and outputs up to 50A. Using Nitecore 3100mAh 35A fully charged batteries gave this reviewer more than 4 hours of heavy use, after which I stopped to write this Preview.
ProCore X Atomizer
The ProCore X atomizer and the ProC series heads provide exceptional flavor (so far) and excellent clouds of vapor. It’s too early to say how long the coil heads will last, but this is not the first Joyetech atomizer to use the ProC coils, and in previous reviews the coil life was decent, provided the user avoids coil killer eliquids (MaxVG + Massive Sweeteners).
The ESPION Mod includes a centered 510 connector that will allow the user to affix atomizers up to 28mm in width. The adjustable center Pin has a range of 4mm to 5.5mm. Last, but not least, the new ESPION Mod utilizes a function button to get around the on-screen menu.
The ProCore X uses a flip type top-fill system. The atomizer can be taken apart and clean easily.

The ESPION is a 5-click on/off mod, with 3 clicks to enter the menu. Use the function button to move through the options, then the plus/minus adjustment bar to navigate through each option, including 5 color combinations for the screen

What We Expect from the ESPION Starter Kit
Depending on the price, the ESPION Mod and ProCore X atomizer could be a very nice starter kit for Vapers looking for power/flavor/vapor in a subdued, sophisticated vaping device. We’ll need a week or so of steady use to make sure it holds up, and all the claims being made by Joyetech are accurate. Early indications are positive though, so I’m looking forward to spending some serious vape time with this new Kit.
