I’m going to use the term “pod mod” exactly once (okay, maybe twice) in this review. That’s because no matter how freely Joyetech uses the term, this is no JUUL-clone, run of the mill pod system. The Atopack Magic is a true all-in-one (AIO) vape device, with larger capacity, more control and smoother performance than any “pod mod” could ever dream of.

Does it share some of the lineage? Of course – there are plenty of parallels between the Atopack Magic and some more pedestrian vape mods. But those parallels get lost once you dive in and give this thing a whirl, using a wider range of liquids than most devices like this ever could.

Here’s the breakdown from our colleagues at Element Vape:

The Atopack Magic is an innovative creation, incorporating the NCFilm™ Heater Element, a 7mL juice capacity, and features a large integrated 1300mAh rechargeable battery to set this nicotine salts device apart. The Magic Pod utilizes a whopping 7mL juice capacity and includes a bottom refill system, stoppered by a silicone and plastic flap. Underneath the flap is the NCFilm™ Heating Element, practical for elongating the lifespan of the unit. In addition, to replace the cotton, the pod must be accessed from the bottom to reveal a square of organic cotton to wick the juice within. Firing at 0.6ohms at the press of a button, the ATOPACK Magic Pod system is powered by an integrated 1300mAh rechargeable battery to produce nice thick nicotine laden clouds.

Impressions

At first glance, you might be underwhelmed by the Atopack Magic, thanks to a pretty standard exterior design. Some of said it’s like the Aspire Breeze or similar mods, and I’m hard-pressed to argue. There’s nothing unattractive about the Magic, it’s just another AIO device when placed on shelves.

But when you take the Atopack Magic apart, that’s when you see just how different it really is. Because the mod doesn’t use standard pods, or even tiny, replaceable coils. Instead, Joyetech has introduced a flat heating element to the pod mod (ED: that’s twice!) mix, along with replaceable cotton wicks. This is a far cry from the throwaway atomizers we’ve come to expect from this class of device… and it’s a pretty good one, to boot.

Another telling sign that this isn’t a disposable pod mod (ED: That’s three, pal) like so many others cluttering your shelves, is the prominent power/fire button right on the face of the mod. The Atopack Magic isn’t aiming for gentle, high-nicotine smokers’ draws. Instead, the 1,300mAh battery provides potent jolts of power, like one would expect from a higher-end mod.

Standout Features

I wanted to dismiss the NCFilm Heater flat heating element as a gimmick, soon to be replaced by more proven designs. But you know what? It works really well, and now the pod setup can last upwards of three monthswith regular cotton changes (not three days like disposable cartridges).

The kit comes with 50 pre-cut cotton strips, recommended to be swapped every three refills or so. I managed to get about five refills before flavor and vapor quality began to suffer, so Joyetech was being a little conservative in my estimate. But no matter how you look at it, the Atopack Magic is designed to get you vaping quickly, and keep you there for a long time before you need to swap the NCFilm heater. Kudos for that.

In use, the heater works rapidly and efficiently, ramping to an appropriate wattage in record time for an AIO system. And the cotton strips are surprisingly durable, even when using thicker, sub-ohm oriented liquids. Though I had my best results using 50/50 or slightly thicker juices, the Magic can handle max VG with relative ease, albeit at the expense of flavor intricacy.

Either way, the cotton gave above-average flavor, and a shocking amount of thick vapor, even on short draws. It’s a powerful little AIO mod, and it surprised every vaper I showed it to. But they were interested, for sure. And, as a direct-draw device, there are no adjustments to make, so beginners can feel comfortable knowing the Atopack Magic is putting out an appropriate amount of power.

Vaping the Joyetech Atopack Magic

Let’s be clear, the Atopack Magic isn’t going to replace my dual-18650 mods anytime soon. But my hat is tipped to Joyetech for bridging the gap between entry-level and advanced vaping devices… and doing such a good job along the way. Between the new atomizer design, massive capacity and impressive battery life, the Magic comes together in beautiful fashion to present users with a quality, satisfying vape experience.

My ONLY concerns are two-fold…

First, while the flavor is solid, it’s a little muted for more complex juices. Especially if they’re higher-VG concentrations. Like I said, slightly thinner blends wicked better and provided more throat hit than cloud-focused liquids, but the flavor still wasn’t mind-blowing, just solid. I imagine higher nicotine concentrations would also ramp up the experience a bit, but I would NOT recommend vaping high-nic salt liquids using the 0.6-ohm stock setup, since it’s almost guaranteed to be too intense at this resistance.

And that kind of leads to the bigger issue – who is the Atopack Magic really targeting? Sub-ohm vapers who want something more subtle for work hours? Or beginner vapers looking to skip the smoking cessation step and get right to more-advanced vaping? As much as I enjoyed using the Magic as a moderate direct lung device, I’m not sure MTL vapers and ex-smokers are going to get the same satisfaction.

Pros:

– Excellent NCFilm heating system

– Generous amount of cotton

– Great juice capacity and battery life

Cons:

– Too loose for MTL vaping

– Higher VG juices struggle a bit

– Flavor is just “okay”

Spinfuel VAPE Recommendation and Score

We always talk about the lack of “evolution” in vape technology. So, when it comes along, we take notice. And when it comes from a pod mod [ED: That’s four times, man] or AIO device, we’re as surprised as anyone. But Joyetech has definitely come up with something unique in the NCFilm system.

The Magic kit is a nice value for the price, and performs well enough to satisfy most vapers. But keep an eye on this series – with a little fine-tuning, especially when it comes to flavor and catering to MTL vapers, the Atopack Magic could become something really special.
