With this collaboration between Wotofo and Rig Mod, comes the FLUX 200W Starter Kit, a dual 18650 wattage-only mod and sub-ohm tank. Most definitely a high-performance vape mod and sub-ohm tank, the FLUX mod features three output modes, Standard, Powerful, and Powerful+ for instant ramp up firing speeds, a wattage range of 5W-200W, and can fire coils down to 0.1-ohm to 3.0-ohms. Nothing in the specs really stand out,  it’s pretty much par for the course these days, and the lack of any Temperature Control circuitry in the chipset just reinforces our stance that TC-enabled Mods are slowly, but surely, dropping by the wayside.

“ELEMENT

No, what makes this particular starter kit so appealing is not innovative electronics, but rather its ultra-modern chassis design and spectacular OLED display. Well, that and there truly isn’t any lag time between firing the mod and activating the Flow Pro Sub-Ohm.

FLUX DisplayDesigned by Rig Mod, also known as Vaping AMP, makers of one of the finest sub-ohm tanks made, and manufactured by Wotofo, the 200W Flux Mod has been a delight to use these past 2 weeks, so much so that I plan on keeping it in rotation, along with its high-performance Flow Pro Sub-Ohm Tank.

This attractive and streamlined mod features a full-length firing bar (fairly well disguised as just a side-panel) along with two stealthy adjustment buttons, as well as that spectacular OLED display. The full 1.3-inch Color OLED Display is rich, bright, colorful, and provides the user with all the information anyone could want, all laid out in an easy to grasp layout that using the word “intuitive” actually fits.

If the color display on the FLUX wasn’t enough, the mod features a 7-color LED light that shoots up like a laser beam from the bottom of the mod to just under the display. This light can be adjusted to ‘flash’ up, or ‘breathe’ up from the bottom, or turned off completely by pressing the fire panel and the left, or ‘minus’ adjustment button. (more on basic operations in a bit)

The proprietary chipset’s maximum 200W is a real 200W, and when combined with ultra-fast ramp up speed and the three output modes, the vape experience is lean and mean.

Basic Operation of the FLUX Mod

The FLUX Mod is a straight up 5-click on/off vape mod. However, because there is no temperature control system to deal with, settings are minimal, and comprise of choosing a color for the vertical light under the display, and setting the initial ramp up mode to standard, powerful, or powerful+. Lastly, pressing both adjustment buttons locks or unlocks the mod. When locked the mod doesn’t not fire.  That’s it, nothing else to deal with except for adjusting the power for the optimal wattage of the whatever atomizer or coil is being used.

The Light

When the user presses the fire panel button and left, or ‘minus’ adjustment button the screen displays two lighting options, Working Light, which brings the user to a screen that displays hexagons of seven colors, and multiple choices to render those colors; Off, Flash, Breathe, 7-color Flash, and 7-Color Breathe. Choosing the Standby option allows the user to turn off the light, or to choose between Flash and Breathe while the fire panel is being pressed.

The Flow Pro Sub Ohm Tank

The included Flow Pro Sub-Ohm Tank includes a bubble glass and straight glass option. The capacity using the bubble glass is 5mL, while the straight glass is 4mL. The Tank itself is 25mm in diameter at the base, sitting center on the FLUX Mod centered 510-connector.

These days a poor performing Sub-Ohm is an aberration, most sub-ohms in 2018 perform just fine, and the Flow Pro is no exception. This particular sub-ohm tank has a triple bottom airflow slots and comes with a pair of 0.18ohm Multi-hole Coils with mesh-like materials, both Kanthal heating elements. A big plus for this tank is that the Flow Pro is compatible with SMOK TFV8 Baby Coils in all its wide range of coil resistances.

Vaping with the FLUX Mod and Flow Pro Tank

The FLUX Mod’s modern, wider-at-the-bottom vape mod is a comfortable mod to hold and use. Right handed users will press the fire panel with the index finger, giving the user full view of the display turned toward the user. Left handed users will press the fire panel with the thumb, also allowing full view of the display as its turned in toward the user. Either way, the FLUX mod can be used all day long without hand or finger fatigue.

The top cap slides away and provides a convenient top-fill method for the user. The drip tip is a stubby, Delrin curved Wide Bore Drip Tip that possesses excellent heat dissipation. While the clouds of vapor may get warm in the higher wattages the drip tip stays room temperature, for the most part anyway, pushing the wattage up to the high end will heat up the drip tip a bit.

The two 0.18-ohm Kanthal Coil heads have a range of 40-80W, and once again I find myself right in the middle range for an optimal vape, 62W. Both the flavor fidelity and vapor production are very good to excellent, depending on the e-juice used. A 80/20 VG/PG e-juice that I’m vaping a lot these days produces wonderfully thick and flavorful clouds, while a e-juice I’m reviewing is a 60/40 VG/PG provided a warmer, more intense flavor with slightly less vapor volume, and certainly thinner clouds.

The Flow Pro is right up there with many of my favorite sub-ohm tanks, but its stubby drip tip will probably cause me to use it less and less on the FLUX mod, and instead I see myself keeping one of the new SMOK TFV12 Prince Cobra tanks (review on the way) attached. The new Prince has a 25.5mm bottom width, which fits fine on the FLUX, and if offered in several colors that would look right at home on top of the FLUX mod.

The Verdict

If you’re looking for a new vape mod with Temperature Control tech on board, you’ll most certainly take a pass on the FLUX. But if you’re like me, and haven’t used TC coils in forever, then the FLUX might just be your next purchase. The Starter Kit makes a lot of sense if you don’t mind the short, stubby drip tip on the Flow Pro. Color options include Black, Gunmetal, Red, White, Green, Dark Blue and Light Blue..and a Rainbow. The Flow Pro tank in the starter kit matches the color of the mod, which is a nice touch.

At nearly $90, the Wotofo X Rig Mod Flux Starter Kit ain’t the cheapest high-wattage starter kit on the block but it’s pedigree is such that it makes sense as a primary mod and tank. No doubt this kit will serve you well and give you months, if not years, of solid, high-quality use.

Even without its well-built zinc-alloy construction and wonderful OLED display, the best reason to want to vape the FLUX Mod and Flow Pro tank is, in my opinion, the outstanding ramp up speeds. I put this to the test by doing a side-by-side speed test with the FLUX and the SMOK Devilkin, the mod I used most of the time before the FLUX, and the instant vapor produced by the FLUX was substantial, and visibly noticeable by on-lookers in the office.
