iJOY Captain X3 Triple-20700 Mod Kit Preview

I have a LOT of experience with iJOY Captain mods. But their latest – the iJOY Captain X3 Triple-20700 Mod Kit – may be the first one that can qualify as a potential game changer. That’s because this triple-20700 monster might finally provide the battery life boost we’ve all been seeking.

Of course, if you choose to run the Captain X3 at its maximum 324 watts, then this triple-20700 mod isn’t going to last very long. But if you tend to keep your wattages below the stratosphere, the three-battery setup might just get you through a heavy day of vaping, or longer.

Let’s see what else iJOY is bringing to the table with the iJOY Captain X3 Triple-20700 Mod Kit.

As powerful as iJOY claims the Captain X3 Triple-20700 Mod can be, the company made a really compact device here, with measurements of 79x51x44.6mm – much wider and thicker than the IJOY Captain PD270, but nearly 10mm shorter! Sure, the “hexagonal” shape isn’t exactly a unique look for the format, but considering the amount of power that can potentially flow through this triple-20700 Mod, it’s pretty pocket-friendly.

And you might just want the Captain X3 Triple-20700 Mod in your pocket, since iJOY is claiming the three-battery format will offer up to three days of performance from fully charged cells. Now, the skeptics in us are scoffing at that claim. But the testers and reviewers in us are thrilled at the opportunity to prove ourselves wrong for doubting iJOY.

But these battery claims aren’t coming from the marketing department alone. In iJOY’s promo materials for the Captain X3 Triple-20700 Mod, we learned that the all-new X3 chipset is responsible for making the Mod more efficient with battery consumption when compared with previous versions. And this is true, even at higher wattages, which is where we expect most customers will want to use this device.

Of course, not everyone is ready to join the 20700 battery revolution. For these people, iJOY was kind enough to include an 18650 adapter, to ensure you can enjoy the Captain X3 regardless of which cells you choose. Of course, we don’t yet know if the X3 chipset will offer the same types of battery efficiency as it does for the 20700 cells, but it’s on our list of things to test when the Kit arrives this week.

Beyond the battery, the X3 chipset features a full slate of Modern Modes and features. In addition to the 324 watts of power, users will enjoy a complement of temperature control settings, TCR slots, bypass Mode, firmware upgrade ability, and more. We didn’t see any major “innovation” with the listed Modes, but at this point, with vape Mods approaching cell phone levels of intricacy, we’re not sure we need it.

However, the already-great iJOY Captain display has been significantly upgraded to a full-color arrangement. While the layout remains largely the same – wattage/temperature, battery life, coil resistance, voltage, etc. – but the vivid OLED seems even brighter and more vibrant than before .

Otherwise, the Captain X3 Triple-20700 Mod looks really attractive. Nothing groundbreaking, but nothing gaudy or out-of-place, either.

We admittedly know very little about the Kit’s included Captain X3 tank, but our first impressions indicate that iJOY is taking more than a few pages from SMOK’s TFV-12 playbook. This 25mm sub-ohm tank has all the trappings of a Modern atomizer, with some familiar features, including the bowed-out glass section for 8mL of capacity, sliding top-fill cap, and a typical slate of proprietary coils.

However, the resin Cobra drip-tip made us do a double-take, since the combination makes the Captain X3 a near-carbon copy of the SMOK TFV-12 Prince. That said, if iJOY can imitate the flavor and performance of the Prince as well as it copied the appearance, we have high hopes for our time with the Captain X3 tank.

All in all, we’re feeling really good about the iJOY Captain X3 Triple-20700 Mod Kit. No, it’s not the most original design. Nor is it the most feature-laden Mod available. But if iJOY’s claims about the X3 chipset and battery duration are even close to true, we could be on the cusp of serious advances in vape technology.

But, of course, we won’t know the full story until we get our hands on the Kit itself. We’re expecting the iJOY Captain X3 Triple-20700 Mod Kit to arrive any day now. We’ll spend some time pushing its stated limits, and will come back with a full review soon!
