It takes a lot to surprise me these days. But the Kanger Pollex 200W Touchscreen integrated battery mod might do just that. We just got our test model in the mail, and are already impressed with how light, responsive and user-friendly the Pollex is right out of the box. Of course, there’s a lot more to testing than first impressions, but our review certainly got off on the right foot.

The Kanger Pollex is the venerable vape company’s first touchscreen device. But rather than follow the same path as other manufacturers, Kanger decided to up the game by adding a gorgeous 2.4-inch display, unique user interface, and a surprisingly powerful 3,500 mAh internal battery built right in.

In the past, high-wattage devices with internal batteries have been a little hit-or-miss. But in our limited time with the Pollex, the Li-Ion cell has proven to be long-lasting and appropriately powerful. There’s still a lot of things we need to test – most notably, the 200-watt stated limit – but this was a good start.

Let’s look at some of the standout features on the Kanger Pollex integrated battery mod.

No, this isn’t a store display model…

Removing the Pollex from its simple packaging was like picking up a box you think is full, but actually isn’t. This slim, svelte box has fairly standard dimensions of 86x48x24mm, but is unbelievably light. In fact, it was so light, we worried the device was defective – at least until we fired it up, and we saw the bright TFT display.

Instead, the Pollex feels amazingly compact and lightweight. The smooth aluminum frame and rounded edges feel great in the hand. There IS a slight “lip” around the touchscreen itself, but we didn’t experience any discomfort when operating the mod.

The large, round fire button is flush on the side of the Pollex integrated battery mod, but has a nice cut out “power” symbol making it easy to operate without having to hunt for it. Plus, the flush position makes the Pollex ideal for snug pockets, since it takes a confident press to fire the mod.

Perhaps our only concern with the Pollex so far is the 24mm width. While our 25mm atomizers fit fine, and sat without much noticeable overhang, it seems a little odd that Kangertech wouldn’t add a millimeter or two to ensure most of today’s popular tanks and RDAs sit flush.

That said, the center-positioned, gold-plated 510 connection was nice and springy, and accepted each of the five test atomizers we tried during the initial testing.

A modern-meets-classic interface

Our initial runthrough with the Kanger Pollex touchscreen integrated  battery mod was a good one. The standard five-clicks on/off scheme turned on the Pollex in seconds, revealing a large, bright display. Using a speedometer-type gauge to measure wattage and temperature, Kanger opted for classic, “digital clock”-styled numbers for the screen. It’s an odd blend of old and new that works, in a retro sort of way.

The touchscreen interface is highly responsive, as well. Clearly identifiable icons reveal the options, which are also easily adjusted by touch. When starting up the Pollex, the screen immediately prompts users for their skill level – beginner, intermediate or expert. Depending on which is selected determines the amount of customizable options in the menu system.

We’ll go through each in our full review, but in short – Beginner – variable wattage only. Intermediate –  wattage or simplified temperature control. Expert – full control over TC, TCR, wattage and temp curves  and more.

Speaking of which, the Kanger Pollex integrated battery mod also features a full complement of temperature control options, including support for Ni200, titanium and SS316 coil types, three TCR memory slots, adjustable puff power adjustments, preheat functionality, and a slew of integrated protection features to keep everything safe, including the built-in battery.

Only one problem occurred during our initial runthrough – the attractive alternate wallpaper options were presented to us, but the screen never allowed us to set them for our primary display. We’re going to have to spend a little more time in Expert mode to see how this pans out.

Overall, we’re really surprised with just how powerful and functional the Pollex proved to be, even in our limited time with it. While we’re still a LITTLE skeptical that an internal battery – even a 3,500mAh cell – can adequately power today’s power-hungry atomizers, we’d be happy to be wrong.

More importantly, we’re all really impressed with how well the Kanger Pollex operates and feels in the hand. Any shock we had about its light weight and slender profile were quickly replaced by positive feedback from our entire team.

We’ll have a full breakdown of the Kanger Pollex 200W Touchscreen integrated battery mod over the next week or so. Check back soon for the complete review.
