As we approach the end of the calendar year 2019, (HAPPY WHATEVER YOU CELEBRATE!!!) I thought all of my pod mod reviews just might be done and over. But this category refuses to slow down. Enter the Hellvape Grimm Pod Mod Kit, a collaboration with noted vaping personalities Grimm Green and Ohm Boy.
(Yes, this is what their mothers named them.)
While a new advanced pod system isn’t enough to get us excited, quality vaping performance usually IS, so let’s take a deeper look at the latest AIO setup to grace our desks, starting with the specs.
The Official Long-Winded Description
The Hellvape GRIMM 30W Pod System is the resulting efforts of collaboration between Hellvape, Grimm Green, and Ohm Boy. Providing a large integrated 1200mAh rechargeable battery, 5-30W output, and is paired with a 2mL refillable pod with replaceable coils.
PCTG Materials
Crafted from protective zinc-alloy and PCTG materials, the Hellvape GRIMM Pod System is moderately impact resistant, preventing unsightly markings from damaging the box mod. Firing in both a wattage and voltage output, the GRIMM Pod Kit can be tailored to the specific usage of a particular individual, reaching up to 4.6V and 30W, respectively.
This allows the GRIMM 30W Pod Kit to be used with plastic food-grade pod, providing a large 2mL capacity, and can accept coils made for the GRIMM Pod Set, clocking in at either 0.7ohm Mesh or can use a 1.2ohm Regular Coil. Refilled in a sliding top fill system, the Hellvape GRIMM will definitely last through any future vape sessions.

Aesthetics of the Hellvape GRIMM 30W Pod System
The name of the game here is stealth and portability. The Grimm Pod Mod has a simple rectangular shape with some simple grip patterns built into the frame, so it’s more comfortable and tactile than most miniature pod devices. Even with its ultra-light weight, this isn’t a mod you’re going to forget about in your pocket.
Its concealed cartridge/coil combination sits nicely inside the zinc alloy chassis (with carbon-like panels on either side), right above the potent 1,200 mAh battery.
The inclusion of a display and adjustments is weird on a supposed “pod” device, but with 30 watts of power potential, I suppose it’s necessary. While the setup is a bit old-fashioned, I did enjoy having some control over the experience. Experienced vapers will settle right into the controls, while newcomers will quickly adapt to the straightforward options.
I should mention that the tank section is a respectable 2mL. This might not seem like much in a world with ever-expanding tank devices. But using nic salt e-liquids, there’s enough capacity to give you a considerably longer running time between fills. I wish there was a bigger capacity to make this a “true” all-day pod mod, but the 2mL tank and frugal coils make up for it.
Another highlight is the mouthpiece – that’s right, the mouthpiece. I can’t recall the last time I spent more than a nanosecond debating the virtues of a mouthpiece, but in terms of comfort and enjoyment, I also can’t remember using a better one. It’s soft-coated, comfortable for all-day vaping and stays cool, even under heavy use.
Vaping the Hellvape Grimm
Perhaps my only complaint about the Grimm is the positioning and format of the fire key. Because it’s situated lower than most side-positioned buttons on similar mods, I could never find a comfortable grip that allowed me to naturally fire. Plus, the button on my test model was a little wobbly. While it’s currently still responsive, I can see it starting to present issues after a few months of steady use.
The Hellvape Grimm is an absolute powerhouse pod mod. While the 1.2-ohm MTL head is flavor-heavy, the 0.7-ohm companion coil is just as rich and nuanced, with much denser vapor production. It’s not nearly a sub-ohm contender, but it’s a lot closer than any pod device has a right to be.
The downside to this is that the sub-ohm head requires a lot more power from the 1,200mAh cell, resulting in lesser overall performance than with the higher-resistance coil. I strongly recommend newcomers stick with the 1.2-ohm head, if for longevity alone. On one charge, I managed a full day of steady vaping, dipping into the following morning.
(Okay, it was the very early morning… we tend to be night owls...)
Flavor performance is outstanding with either coil. Even my most-layered juices managed to come through, with nic salt liquids being a particular highlight. What’s more important is that both of the coils perform extremely well.
Neither of the included offerings are going to make you forget your favorite sub-ohm tanks. But when compared to similar pod mod/AIO devices, the coil flavor, vapor production, and (best of all) longevity, are top-tier. More than two weeks later, I’m still enjoying both of the original coil heads, without any notable drop in performance or enjoyment.
Pros:
- Outstanding battery life
- Strong coil performance
- Compact, but durable
Cons:
- A larger capacity tank might be nice
- Not very original, especially when compared to similar devices
- Would be better if used as a dedicated MTL device
Bottom Line
For those keeping score, you’ll see our only complaint about the Grimm was about a wobbly fire button and the need for a larger capacity pod. In other words, I really couldn’t find anything to complain about like I usually do with these devices. The tank has a decent capacity. Interestingly, the coils last a long time. The battery is top-flight. And the flavor is right up there with the best we’ve seen in these types of vape kits.
