If you’re an experienced squonk mod user, chances are you’ve already made up your mind about the Vandy Vape Pulse V2. Most vapers are going to look at the Pulse V2 and not give it a second look, because it’s basically the same device we’ve seen several times over. So, that apathy would be justified, because there’s nothing really unique or special about the mod, aside from some nice resin accents.
But to fans, the Pulse V2 represents the best of the best in squonk mods. Complete with the updated Vandy chipset, the Pulse V2 aims to bring top-tier accuracy and control to the otherwise basic experience. And for the most part it delivers. Let’s see if it’s right for you.
Officially Speaking…
Check out the new Vandy Vape PULSE V2 95W Squonk Box Mod, featuring a single high amp battery utilization, leakproof squonking system, and waterproof PCBA. Created in collaboration with Tony B, the PULSE V2 Box Mod delivers a 95W ceiling from a single 20700 or 21700 battery, with options to use a 18650 battery with the included adapter. Constructed from durable nylon, the PULSE V2 Squonk Mod is ultra lightweight and has waterproofing of the PCBA, inspired by the Vandy Vape SWELL Box Mod. This allows the mod to be cleaned easily and without worry of jeopardizing the control board. Equipped with a leakproof squonking system, the squeeze bottle fits directly underneath the 510 connection, and can be filled by unthreading the cap at the base of the device. Featuring an advanced temperature control system, this is a great mod for anyone looking to get into squonking or loves a refined and tailored vaping system.

Aesthetics of the Vandy Vape PULSE V2 95W Squonk Box
As was expected from Vandy Vape, our Sky Blue Resin test model was built extremely well. Though the nature of the squonk format means there will always be a hollow feel to the frame, the construction of the Pulse V2 definitely feels substantial enough, and would likely survive drops without much worry.
One concern I had – and I seem to have it a lot with these side-press squonk mods – was the ill-fitting battery door, which never quite sat flush on my Pulse V2. It wasn’t quite as bad as some (including the original Pulse), but I still worried whenever removing the V2 from a coat pocket.
Vaping the Vandy Vape Pulse V2 Squonk Mod
The key selling point of the Vandy Vape Pulse V2 squonk mod is the updated Vandy chipset, which is a proven, if unspectacular board, capable of 95 watts, full temperature control, bypass mode, and more.
Operating the Pulse mod was easy enough, with standard, linear vape mod controls – long/short presses of the fire key, simple monochrome display, etc. It’s nothing experienced vapers won’t recognize, and nothing new vapers won’t learn with relative ease. Thankfully, Vandy Vape’s instructions make things easier for all users to get acquainted.
Features
The Pulse V2 features some rock-solid performance in wattage mode. Fast ramp-up time, steady build to 95 watts, and smooth filling of the bottom-feeding atomizer led to a positive experience with the V2. Since squonkers are fairly simple devices, we weren’t expecting much in the way of surprises, but no one could expect such rapid ramping, even on my lowest resistance atomizers.
However, one carry over effect from older versions was the iffy temperature control, which was jumpy when reading resistances, and even more difficult to lock in. This is hardly the first time we’ve dealt with this, and I wonder why companies are still including these modes on simple devices like the V2. I can’t imagine there are too many squonk fans clamoring for temp control these days, so it’s worth mentioning.
Another concern we had was battery life. Of course, as a single-battery device, the Pulse V2 isn’t going to set any records for battery duration. I only saw a few hours of steady performance before power began to wane. It wasn’t tragic, but the Vandy chipset wasn’t nearly as efficient with 21700 cells as it probably should be at this point in the series’ lifecycle.
Looking past….
Looking past the nitpicking, the Vandy Vape Pulse V2 is comfortable and easy to use. Despite a standard boxy shape, the curved edges kept things easy on the palm, while the squeeze bottle was a breeze to use, and leak-free to boot.
Pros:
- Proven chipset with fast ramping
- Durable but lightweight construction
- Leak-free performance
Cons:
- Weak battery life
- Temp control is a no-go
- Needs stronger magnets
Bottom Line
The Vandy Vape Pulse V2 squonk mod is, for the most part, a pleasure to vape. The flavor and performance was solid with all of my BF RDAs, and the smooth, leak-free vaping was comfortable in either hand. Maybe the TC is an afterthought, but the Pulse is easily operated and fun to vape. In 2020, that’s enough for a solid score.
