OXVA Origin 40W Pod System Review – Normally, I’d open this piece with a diatribe about pod mods and how they’re ruining vaping for everyone involved. But we’ve (mostly) gotten over our biases, and realize that these ultra-portable devices are here to stay, and aren’t actually the devil disguised in zinc alloy. (Well, most of us have. There are a couple of holdouts ranting about these ruinous things)
Also, we’ve been very fair when a pod system hits the mark. And that’s exactly what the all-new OXVA Origin pod mod system brings to the table.
Let’s see the details of the OXVA Origin…
The OXVA Origin 40W Pod System is a carefully engineered compact vaping pod system. It implements the advanced intelligent Photon Chipset. It uses single high-amp 18650 battery. And is equipped with a large capacity refillable pod to keep on vaping when you need it the most.
Construction
Constructed from durable zinc-alloy, the chassis of the Origin Pod System can withstand small to moderate falls and drops with grace. Featuring the Photon Chipset, the Origin can achieve a wattage output level of up to 40W, while maintaining a slew of protections to prevent any damage occurring to the coil or device.
In addition, the single high amp 18650 battery is installed within and sold separately. Hidden behind the slide off chassis panel, the Origin Pod System can hold up to 3mL within the internal pod.
Coils and Options
Replacing the coil is quick and easy, thanks to the plug ‘n’ play coil design. Utilizing a 0.3ohm and 0.5ohm mesh coil, the Origin can create large clouds of vapor in a direct lung fashion, or can accommodate those that prefer MTL vaping with a 1.2ohm Head Coil, offering a more restrictive mouth-to-lung vaping feel.

Aesthetics of the OXVA Origin
I used to think stick/box hybrid frame designs were odd looking, but with so many of them on the market, they’ve become an accepted look. Still, there’s no doubting that the OXVA Origin is definitely an acquired visual taste. While some will enjoy the smooth lines and comfortable hand feel, others might find the device a little too reminiscent of a personal grooming item.
(Sadly, this isn’t the first time I’ve made such a comparison.)
What ISN’T up for debate is how solid and well-made the OXVA Origin is. Unlike similar AIO mods, the OXVA Origin is weighty, balanced and durable, even putting up with several drops onto hard surfaces without a concern. From the slick-looking side plate to the outstanding fire button, there’s nothing on this inexpensive device that feels cheap or under-produced.
Plus, the concealed tank/window setup is arguably the best of its kind, giving users a clear view of how much e-liquid remains, without having it take away from the overall look and feel.
Vaping the OXVA Origin
It’s worth reiterating just how good this replaceable coil system is. Even newbies will have little trouble figuring out how to install, prime and replace these mesh coils, with minimal fuss or mess. The simple setup allows for effortless refilling and coil swapping, with an opening large enough for any reasonably sized bottle tip.
In a nice change of pace, the pod/tank seems larger than its stated 3mL capacity, but it’s hardly a concern. With moderate vaping, I found the OXVA Origin’s UNI mesh coils to be extremely frugal on liquid, with a single fill lasting me a good chunk of a the day before needing a refill. And that’s with some impressive vapor production, to boot!
MTL and DL Coils
Both of the included heads are a little snugger than the usual cloud chucking coil, but well above the restrictive pod mod experience. In short, both MTL and sub-ohm vapers should find something to like here, even if the experience definitely leans toward the latter.
And they don’t skimp on longevity, either. The included coils gave me well over a week of steady, flavorful performance each, using varied types of e-liquids. Fair warning — I don’t recommend using nic salt juices here, since the sub-ohm resistance and loose airflow could lead to some uncomfortable draws at higher nic levels.
From The Plume Room 60/40 to the KILO 80/20
But all of my standard juices, from 50/50 blends to higher-VG varieties all filled and wicked well with the OXVA UNI coils. In short, if you’re looking for a more productive, foggier vape than you get with pod mods, but don’t want to sacrifice convenience or portability, take a long look at the OXVA Origin. No one complains about the vapor production, except maybe Dave.
When first filling and priming the UNI coils, I noticed a slight cottony undertone, even with the strong flavor of my chosen e-liquid. I learned it takes 1-2 refills before the coil truly breaks in, so keep that in mind if you’re looking for instant gratification. Once the coils do hit their stride, it’s flavor-rich, with deep, nuanced layers evident in even the simplest formulations.
Clouds and Clouds…
(There’s supposedly an RBA head available, though it wasn’t included in the kit we received for testing.)
Cloud production is awfully impressive for a mod that maxes at 40 watts of output. But these coils were designed for sub-ohm performance at low wattages, and the combination really sings without requiring too much power draining the cell. Even though it’s a single-18650 device, I loved how long-lasting the OXVA Origin was on a single charge, and how quickly the device recharged using the included USB cable/port system.
Photon Chipset
With the potent, fast-ramping Photon chipset, the OXVA Origin allows you to get near-instant bursts of flavor and thick vapor without taxing the 18650 battery too hard. Sure, as the device loses some power, so does the flavor. But that’s to be expected on a lower-wattage mod like this.
And it’s only at the very end of a charge cycle that the flavor and potency noticeably drop off the table – something you’ll be able to rectify pretty quickly if you have a spare cell or are near a USB port.
As expected, closing off the airflow and using the device as more of an MTL device helps slow down battery drain, but ultimately, this is a moderate sub-ohm mod, disguised as an entry-level pod vape. Keep this in mind if buying one for an ex-smoker.
OXVA Origin Pros:
– Above-average battery performance
– Long-lasting coil system
– Legitimate sub-ohm vaping capability
OXVA Origin Cons:
– Box/stick hybrid designs aren’t for everyone
– Extended coil break-in time
– Not the best option for MTL vapers
Bottom Line of the OXVA Origin
Overall, the OXVA Origin is a recommended purchase for newcomers to more-advanced vape devices, or beginners with slightly cloudier desires. While this sub-ohm setup isn’t going to necessarily suit new vapers looking for a smoking-like sensation, OXVA still packs a ton of flavor and longevity into a compact, high-performing package.
