Innokin Zlide 16W Tube Review – Wow. We’re never going to complain about not getting Innokin products again. In the last month, we’ve received no fewer than five brand-new kits to review [ED: With another one coming!] and suddenly, Spinfuel VAPE looks like an Innokin catalog. (just kidding)

But we’re not complaining — if Innokin was putting out junk, we’d let them know it. But everything has been great so far, including this righteous beginner rig here, the Innokin Zlide 16W MTL kit.

Zinc-Alloy Construction

Constructed from zinc-alloy, the chassis of the Innokin ZLIDE Tube is sturdy and impact resistant, protecting the integrated 3000mAh rechargeable battery within. If I decided to write one solitary bullet point here, it would be more words than I’d probably need. The Zlide Tube is just that — a zinc alloy tube. It has one button. It has some lights to indicate battery life and potential problems. It has a “Zlide Tube” logo.

Initial Impressions and Aesthetics

Yeah, that’s it. Even the companion (and namesake) Zlide tank is a relatively simple affair that looks right at home atop this unadorned tube mod.

Since I’m not getting paid for writing stories a picture can tell, I’ll add that the hexagonal fire key is extremely stiff and durable, with no signs of rattle or play. It fires immediately, with surprisingly fast response time, even though the direct-voltage Zlide Tube maxes out at 16 watts.

If simplicity is what you seek in an MTL vape kit, this is about as basic a setup as you can find in 2019.

Like we’ve mentioned before, the 22mm Zlide D22 tank is a real winner for MTL vapers. While it seems like more and more atomizers are coming to market with multiple uses for a wider range of users, the Zlide honors its famous endorsers by staying true to the mouth-to-lung style of vaping.

The Innokin Zlide Tank

I suppose you could try and put the Zlide to work as a restricted lung atomizer, since it’s technically compatible with Innokin’s entire Z-Coil lineup, but if you want this kit to work as intended, stick to MTL use and you won’t be disappointed.

Vaping the Innokin Zlide Tube Kit

Since Innokin intended to make this kit as a “one stop” setup, I made the decision to only test it with the companion tank. And that’s probably for the best, since the limited power output would probably struggle to fire most modern atomizers. But, since this is a dedicated MTL rig, 16 watts was more than enough to get the most out of the Z-Coils.

Technically, the kit comes with a “sub-ohm” coil, reading at 0.48 ohms. But don’t be fooled into thinking the Zlide Tube is gonna be cloud-chucking monster. With the lower-resistance coil installed, the direct-wattage tube automatically sets the power to the 16-watt max, while the other 1.2-ohm head tells the Zlide to stay in the 11-13 watt range.

Amazingly, the power difference is noticeable. I suppose with such low overhead, every watt matters. But I can’t remember the last time three watts made such a difference in vape quality. While the higher-resistance coil SHOULD be where this MTL kit shone, it was actually the “sub-ohm” coil that provided the better MTL experience.

With the 0.48-ohm head attached, the Zlide Tube produced surprisingly thick, flavorful vapor. We’ve been vocal proponents of the Z-Coil series before, loving their versatility and cross-compatible nature, but it’s never been more clear that MTL is where these coils sing best.

What we love more is how long the heads last with such moderate, reserved power levels. More than THREE weeks after first receiving the Zlide Tube kit, both of the included heads are still performing like they’re brand new. And believe me, they’ve gotten some use. But no matter how we try to trip them up and find some fault, we can’t. Mouth-to-lung vapers, this is the current gold standard for flavor and durability — don’t let these pass you by.

If there’s ANY complaints to make about such a beginner-friendly rig, it’s that the Zlide Tube’s purported 3,000mAh battery capacity seemed more like 1,000. With only 16 watts of power output, that’s still going to give you a decent stretch of use. But after using the MVP 5’s amazing cell power, I was a little surprised by the relatively weak performance on the Zlide Tube.

Pros:

• Simple, unadorned exterior
• Fast ramping
• Outstanding companion tank and coils

Cons:

• Battery life is weak
• No adjustments to be had
• Might be TOO simple and “hands off”

Our Bottom Line on the Innokin Zlide MTL Vape Pen

What can we say? Innokin has cornered the market on beginner-minded, MTL vape devices, and the Zlide Tube doesn’t do anything to change that reputation. While the lack of adjustments and power might turn off more-experienced vapers, there’s no denying that new users making the leap from pod mods will find a lot of value and performance in this kit.
