SMOK VAPE PEN PLUS ALL-IN ONE KIT
SMOK Vape Pen Plus AIO (All-In One) Kit, not to be confused with the SMOK Stick V8 Cloud Beast, has been engineered to deliver good performance with a simple press-n-vape with a ‘vape pen style’ build. Small, lightweight, and hopefully powerful enough, the SMOK Vape Pen Plus AIO is a serious attempt to bring the same performance found in VW/TC box mods with high performance sub-ohm tank. But, can it? That’s the big question we’re waiting to find out.
Another thing that piqued my interest about the Vape Pen Plus AIO is, well, “why”. I mean, with the SMOK Stick V8 Cloud Beast and the Stick V8 Baby, why the need for a third try at a Vape Pen?
About the SMOK Vape Pen Plus AIO (All-in-One)
The SMOK Vape Pen Plus AIO truly is an all-in-one device. There is no removable tank like the SMOK Stick pens, the tank is a part of the battery. (the Vape Pen Plus can be disassembled for cleaning) Although it does feature the single-button “ease of operation” thing, meaning that it should provide an optimal vape experience without the need to adjust wattage, or temperature, or set resistance, and on and on, SMOK has already produced two other devices to do the same thing. What’s so different about the Vape Pen Plus AIO, other than the tank portion?
The SMOK Vape Pen Plus AIO has a 24.5mm diameter battery/tank combo with its battery yielding 3000mAh. Unlike the swing-hinge of the TFV4/8/12 sub-ohm tanks, the tank portion of the Vape Pen Plus has a ‘screw off the top cap’ method. Once the top cap is removed the user finds a much larger area for filling the tank, something a few folks have complained about with the TFV-series hinge and single curved fill slot. The tank has a 4ml e-juice capacity by the way, and is made with glass.
As a group, Spinfuel VAPE recently changed out ALL our 18650 batteries for the brand new Nitecore 3100mAh 35A 18650 cell, ($19.99 each) so when we see a vape pen with a 3000mAh battery, well, it’s not as impressive anymore. Then there is the Kanger K Kiss, which features a whopping 6200mAh internal battery, and the eLeaf QC with its 5000mAh internal battery. I know, I know, these are box mods, with larger battery space, but vaping a HighVG eliquid with a coil resistance of 0.25-ohms, what kind of battery life can we expect?
To drive home the fact that the tank portion of the Vape Pen Plus AIO is part of the whole, the dual air-slots are below the glass tank and part of the battery chassis itself.
Replacement Coils for the Vape Pen Plus are proprietary coils with a resistance of
0.5Ω. So far, we’ve found no other information on the range of wattage or optimal wattage range. We do know it is a dual coil. This could very well be because of the method of calculating the proper voltage the battery needs to send to the coil.
Borosilicate Glass Tank
Most, if not all by now, glass tanks supposedly use Borosilicate glass, which is not necessarily PYREX glass. We hear this word Pyrex bandied about all the time in the vape industry, and it drives us crazy every time (even after 5+ years!) we hear or read that this or that tank is made with Pyrex glass.
Chinese manufacturers use this word because of its name recognition, and reputation, in the US, UK, and many other countries. We’ve written a piece that delves into Pyrex, which we believe every Vaper should read and understand, because it is an important issue. For now, we’ll continue to state the “official” specs offered by the vape gear manufacturers, but we believe a much cheaper glass is used instead… soda-lime glass. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, most glass products in the world are soda-lime glass. We’ll link this preview with our in-depth look at Pyrex as soon as we publish the final draft.
Direct Voltage Vape Pen
The SMOK Vape Pen Plus Kit is said to work with an intelligent battery life indicator. When the battery has the capacity to deliver over 3.3V of power, the LED light around the fire button will blink four times when pressed. However, when the battery has been depleted below 3.3V, the light will blink 15 times quickly. The user will need to recharge the battery at this point with the included USB cable. Fortunately, the SMOK Vape Pen Plus has a pass-thru ability so the user can vape while charging. (Doesn’t this sound so 2013?)
Performance for an AIO Vape Pen
We are very interested in the actual performance of the SMOK Vape Pen Plus, so you can expect a review just as soon as we can spend some time with a few of them in the coming days or weeks.
We were disappointed in other AIO Vape Pens recently, including the UNIMAX 22 and 25. While the tank themselves are excellent sub-ohm tanks, the battery, or more precisely, the Direct Voltage system, didn’t provide enough power to obtain anywhere near the optimal vape experience that the UNIMAX tank can provide. We hope SMOK does better.
