The REV-Tech Nitro is the second in the company’s all-new trilogy of racing-inspired box mods – all of which bring automotive styling and unique takes on a vape mod display. The REV-Tech GTS was a heck of a vape mod, which only suffered from a few surface flaws in its fast and furious design scheme. The Nitro strips back some of the screen space, but otherwise looks like a formidable competitor.

The Racing-Inspired REV-Tech Nitro Mod Preview

With 200 watts of horsepower, the REV-Tech Nitro aims to combine the lightweight, but durable construction of the GTS, with a slightly rougher, more blue-collar aesthetic. If the GTS was a sleek Lamborghini, consider the Nitro a souped-up Mustang. Same power, different approach.

But the slick, racing-inspired image still pervades the dual-18650 Nitro. While not as large and significant as the the screen on the GTS, the speedometer-like round display still delivers on its promise – and works better, to boot!

The 86mm height and throttle grip design means the Nitro isn’t a subtle addition to any collection, but it’s also streamlined for ease of use. The four-button control scheme – including an action/enter button – is all front facing, including the oversized fire key. The trigger-like shape of the mod frame isn’t unlike a gear shift handle – something I’m sure is 100% intentional. But this shape also allows for easy reach to all of the operation buttons with one hand.

And the REV-Tech Nitro will certainly have a lot of inputs to make. The proprietary REV menu system  is designed for foolproof operation, even with a wealth of options, including full temperature control options, six TCR slots, customizable display, bypass mode and more. The look of the mod screams pure power, but the Nitro ensures laser-precise, delicate adjustment of the most intricate settings.

The full-color speedometer display isn’t quite as information-heavy as the heftier GTS, but there’s more than enough information on-screen to keep everyone at bay. Especially cool is the “rev counter” – which is nothing more than a puff counter, souped up to match the racing-inspired Nitro theme. But this, combined with the jumpy gauge needle, already seemed to convey speed better than the erratic GTS display ever did.

We also really liked the custom color options for the screen. Where our cherry-apple red GTS made matching a little tough, our all-black matte Nitro test model looked awesome with just about any color palette we could dream up.

First impressions of our REV-Tech Nitro Mod

When we first got acquainted with REV-Tech with the GTS, we were impressed by such a bold debut effort. But – even though it’s not quite as powerful – the Nitro might be the strong overall effort.

First off, there’s the weight and feel. The Nitro has a more durable, heftier weightiness to it, and definitely seems like it would survive a sharp drop better than its older brother. Not that the GTS wasn’t well-made, but there was a slightly “hollow” feel to it that the Nitro doesn’t have. Instead, the zinc alloy construction is burlier and bolder, without feeling rough in the hands.

Our first test run with the Nitro was easy and enjoyable. We just popped two 18650s into the sturdy battery chamber, and the launch screen brought us right in. From there, we enjoyed effortless power from the get-go; the Nitro ramps up as well as any mod we’ve tested in some time. But, in case “instantaneous” isn’t fast enough, the Nitro’s preheat settings each proved to be distinct and valuable.

While we weren’t able to test all the features right off the bat, the handful of tanks and RDAs we had on hand all worked well on the offset 510 connection. They sat flush, and fired flawlessly, with no misfires or other concerns.

One interesting observation we had about the REV-Tech Nitro is how the oblong shape almost reminded us of holding a grenade. No, not quite as severe a case as Innokin’s infamous mod from long ago, but holding the Nitro at our sides brought about a distinct “Call of Duty” vibe, like we were cooking a frag before launching it into battle.

All in all, we were initially impressed with the racing-inspired REV-Tech Nitro mod. It might serve as the “middle brother” in REV-Tech’s three-member family, but make no mistake, the Nitro has more than enough power and punch to stand on its own as a unique offering, and not a scaled-down edition of the GTS.

Regardless of which model you choose, REV-Tech is making a very strong statement in an increasingly “same-y” world of vape mod design. The speedometer display works smoother than the GTS. The ramp-up power is indisputable. And there’s no questioning the overall look and feel.

After testing countless boring boxes and tubes each week, it’s always nice to have something truly different on hand. REV-Tech has already answered this call twice, and we’re really looking forward to seeing if the Nitro mod is going to take the company to another level of performance.

Keep an eye out for our full review in the next week to 10 days!
