WISMEC Reuleaux RXmini Kit Review SPINFUEL VAPE MAGAZINE

I’m not usually impressed with what I call “thumb mods”, aka, tiny, palm size mods that my fat fingers have difficulty using. For others that have no issues with really small mods these devices can be a godsend for various reasons. When I learned that WISMEC would soon launch a tiny version of their very popular Reuleaux I was intrigued enough to want to be the one to review it, fat fingers and all. The WISMEC Reuleaux RXmini Kit (available at Vapor Authority)  arrived a few days before we all left for New Hampshire and I’ve been using it, exclusively, for the past 10 days. I’m ready to divulge my pros and cons of the newest Reuleaux mod from the creative minds of WISMEC and Jaybo.

Reuleaux RXmini – Battery and Wattage

Because of its size the only way to avoid a built-in battery scenario would have been to design it with the 18350 or 18500 battery in mind. While these options are do-able, the maximum milliamp hours of the larger 18500 would have been limited to around 1000, give or take. The 18350 would have been even worse, with 800mAh give or take.

In order to be a viable alternative in the tiny mod marketplace, WISMEC had to deliver a device that not only exceeded 1000mAh, but offered a practical maximum wattage output. We can assume lots of discussions between Jaybo and the engineering team at WISMEC, and we can assume that it was decided to offer the latest LiPo pack for power, a marvelous 2100mAh battery pack, and a maximum wattage output to 80W, more than enough for most of today’s best sub-ohm tanks.

Considering the size of the WISMEC Reuleaux RXmini, a tiny 1.75 inches by 1.32 inches by 2.29 inches tall, it’s easy to see that choosing the LiPo power source was the best choice.

I found the 2100mAh battery to last way longer than I expected, even with heavy vaping. After nearly an hour and 3 refills of my first vape with the Reuleaux RXmini the battery charge icon barely moved. You can expect 3-4 hours with average-to-heavy vaping. If you are a light vaper, and vape 50:50 PG/VG eliquid you’ll get a longer charge. Recharging the battery takes about 1.5-2 hours, depending on whether you use your computer or the USB port on an external battery charger.

Reuleaux RXmini – Practical Size

When it comes to the fire button the WISMEC Reuleaux RXmini, fat fingers won’t matter much. The Jaybo inscribed fire button sits front and center at the top of the forward-facing side. The button is easy to see and easy to use, sitting directly above the large OLED display and USB port.

Adjusting the wattage/temperature/options is performed by the adjustment buttons (in this case, adjust bar) that sits on the bottom of the Reuleaux RXmini. I would have preferred two small buttons between the display and the USB port, but I’m not an engineer so I have no idea if that was even possible. That said, it took no more than a day to get used to adjusting from the bottom adjustment bar.

Temperature Control and TCR

The WISMEC Reuleaux RXmini chipset includes the latest version of the WISMEC temperature control system, and TCR mode for adjusting for the various TC wires that can be used, including Nickel, Titanium, and Stainless Steel. The latest firmware upgrade includes a ‘pre-heat’ function as well, allowing the Reuleaux RXmini to heat the coil at a higher wattage. WISMEC believes this feature could extend the life of the coils, but only time in the field among hundreds of users will tell the tale.

In addition to variable wattage and Temperature Control, the Reuleaux RXmini includes a Bypass mode, which is a fancy way of saying the user can strip away most of the electronic wizardry and convert the device into a mechanical mod. I haven’t met anyone that actually uses Bypass mode, but I’m sure there are some.

Reux Mini Tank

The WISMEC Reuleaux RXmini is available on its own, or in a kit version. We received kit versions and the mod itself, and I was surprised that the kit version included a tank that was made exclusively for Reuleaux RXmini. As far as I can see, this tank is not available as a standalone purchase, at least not yet.

This Reux Mini Tank holds 2mL of e-juice, comes with a wide bore Delrin drip tip, and offers a top fill feature and bottom airflow control. It is a stainless-steel tank, attractive, but nothing we haven’t seen before, and that’s fine. The real test with any tank is flavor fidelity and leaking. These two areas were what I was interested in, and I wasn’t all that surprised by what I found.

Flavor/Vapor/Performance – The Reux Mini Tank comes with two Triple Coil 0.2Ω ‘tight-draw’ coil heads. Nowhere in the manuals or on WISMEC’s website does it indicate whether or not the coils are Stainless Steel or Kanthal. Whenever the wire material is not mentioned it usually means the wire is Kanthal A1. However, WISMEC loves stainless steel, and since this is a tank built expressly for the Reuleaux RXmini, I’m going to stick my neck out and say both coils are stainless steel.

The draw, even with the airflow wide open, is stiffer than I had hoped it would be. That said, I’m not ready to call this tank a Mouth to Lung tank, or MTL coils. I was able to lung hit (DL) with both coils, and the vapor production with a 70/30 VG/PG blend (French Dude and Pancake Man by Vape Breakfast Classics purchased at Element Vape) was pretty damned good at 58-65W. As the coil was broken in over the course of a couple of hours the draw became a bit looser, and the flavor improved some.

Stainless Steel coils as flavor producers has always left me wanting for more. But this year I’ve seen improvements in flavor fidelity with stainless steel coils, mostly from Joyetech/eLeaf/WISMEC. Both Pancake Man and French Dude tasted roughly 95% as good as they do in my ceramic coil equipped Freemax Starre PURE and various ceramic coils from Vaporesso. That missing 5% is about the ‘depth’ of flavor. For all intent and purposes these eliquids tasted great in the Reux Mini, but comparing the best stainless steel to a good ceramic coil is like comparing vinyl records to compact discs or MP3s.

During the 10 days of use and the dozens and dozens of times I’ve refilled the tank, I’ve not experienced a single leak from the O-rings that keep the glass tank sealed to the bottom cap. Still, the default rings are white and WISMEC includes a set of black rings in case you want to change the color or replace the white ones when the rings wear out.

Reuleaux RXmini Kit Conclusion

Operating the WISMEC Reuleaux RXmini is the same as operating other WISMEC devices with temperature control. It’s a 5-click on/off and 3-click to enter the menu system. If you’ve used other devices with TC/TCR/Bypass options, then you’ll have no trouble operating this mod.

When the Reuleaux RXmini Kit becomes available, Vapor Authority will offer it at $49.99. Considering the 80W of power, the 2100mAh LiPo, and the inclusion of this very decent 2mL tank, $49.99 is a good price.

If you like the Reuleaux triple cell design this mini version will be an attractive alternative, or a complementary device. It is available in Black, Grey, Red, White, and Silver. The Reux Mini tank, depending on the color of the device, will come in stainless steel or black.

Grades

As a Primary Mod and Tank, I would give the Reuleaux RXmini Kit a grade of “C”, mainly because of the size and battery pack. However, as an additional mod/tank kit, or as a backup or stealth companion, I would give the Reuleaux RXmini a grade of “A”. I like this kit a lot, but it could never be my “only” device.
