The SMOK T-PRIV 220W TC Starter Kit Preview - Spinfuel VAPEThe SMOK T-PRIV 220W TC Starter Kit is certainly different in appearance from any other SMOK box mod from the past and present. However, let’s not pretend that it is this new physical appearance that will sell the T-PRIV, on the inside this new box mod has the same ‘guts’ of most of the current SMOK mods. But, that’s not a bad thing.

Like the SMOK Alien 220W box mod released last year, the SMOK T-PRIV also tops out at 220W. Like the SMOK GX350, or the new GX2/4, it offers the same Temperature Control suite. The SMOK T-PRIV is about looks, and some blinking lights, other than that, we’ve seen this mod many times over by now. Still, I can’t wait to begin using mine. I have my heart set on getting the Silver one. I usually don’t go for silver or stainless steel finishes, but for this retro-industrial-punk-rock-post-apocalyptic design, Silver is the color for me.

On the Outside with the SMOK T-PRIV 220W

The SMOK T-Priv 220W TC Box Mod uses its banged up, roughed up chassis, which seems to be a unique hard-shell finish with raised edges and Mad-Max-like details. The not-all-that-gimmicky LED Strips around the T-PRIV are customizable and can offer a variety of colors, 9 to be exact.

While I am looking forward to owning and vaping with the SMOK T-PRIV and adding another SMOK TFV8 Big Baby Sub-Ohm Tank to my collection, I don’t expect a different vape experience in any way. I use the SMOK Alien 220W TC Box Mod every day, so I imagine the performance will be the same. I use the Big Baby tank as well, so no surprises there either. But, unlike the Alien and the new GX2/4 and AL85 from SMOK, the OLED display screen sits atop the device, like the SMOK GX350. I like the larger, side mount display better, but I have no trouble with the GX350 I use, so I don’t imagine I’ll have trouble with the T-PRIV.

Why Buy the SMOK T-PRIV?

The number of Vapers that are familiar with SMOK box mods might ask themselves why they would consider adding the T-PRIV to their collection, and it’s a valid question to ask. Unless your fascinated by the blinking LED’s, or the hard-shell post-apocalyptic exterior, you can certainly take a pass at the T-PRIV and not miss anything. If you collect box mods, or love the look of the T-PRIV, then you’ll be happy with it, I assume (I don’t expect any surprises here).

For Vapers getting ready to jump into the High Wattage world of vaping, SMOK Box Mod Kits are a great way to go, whether it’s the T-PRIV or some other SMOK Kit. If you’re looking at the photos that accompany this preview and love what you see, then the $71.95 price for the Full Kit just might be the way to go. I imagine that if the T-PRIV sells well enough, we will all see many more colors offered down the road. The SMOK Alien 220W started out with just a few colors and now is offered in more than a dozen colors.

The SMOK TFV8 Big Baby Sub-Ohm Tank

The included TFV8 Big Baby Beast is my ideal sub-ohm tank. Offering a well-balanced range of coils, and a 5mL juice reservoir, precision dual airflow control, the now famous hinged top-fill system, and the excellent Baby Turbo Engines coil structure, these Kanthal Coils perform supremely well.

SMOK chose to include the following two coils in the kit;

  • 0.4ohm V8 Baby-Q2 Dual Coil – rated for 30-80W | recommended 55-65W
  • 0.15ohm V8 Baby-T8 Octuple Coil – rated for 50-100W | recommended 60-80W

Whenever I get the opportunity to save money, I stock up on the .015Ω V8-Baby-T8 coils and vape at a very comfortable, flavorful, and cloud heavy wattage setting of 80-90W. It is, by far, my favorite coil for the TFV8 Big Baby. There is no reason to expect anything different with the T-PRIV.

We expect delivery of the SMOK T-PRIV any day now, it has been released and is available on many vendor shelves, but because we work through our wholesale partner, it takes a bit longer to receive our SMOK products. A full review will come about a week after getting our supply.
