SMOK PRIV ONE STARTER KIT (AIO) PREVIEW

Despite this being a Preview and not a Review, I want to admit up front that after using the new SMOK PRIV One for less than an hour I know this is not my idea of Mod that belongs in my collection. But who knows, I suppose that once I get a week with it under my belt I might change my mind. Doubt it, but I’ve been wrong before.

You see, for 3 days I misplaced mine. I remember refilling the tank (again) and placing it on my nightstand. When I woke up, it was gone. I know I must have bumped it during the night with one of my one hundred flips of my pillow, but I could not find it anywhere. Well, not until I asked Julia and Kiera to come over and help me find it. Somehow, it landed directly behind one of the small legs of the nightstand, in such a way that it was hidden from view. It took Keira’s tiny hands to feel around underneath the nightstand to finally find it. The PRIV One is a TINY mod.

I’ve been vaping for 7 years, a direct lung vaper that consumes on average 25mm of e-liquid daily.  The SMOK PRIV One is not a device for heavy vapers looking for huge clouds, like me. For newbies, it might be just fine. The price, under $25, is affordable for most people looking to make an investment in their first e-cigarette.

Most of all, the SMOK PRIV One is a great stocking stuffer. Why? For one, it’s inexpensive, and two, despite its tiny size and small e-liquid capacity, it vapes like a champ… for an hour or so. Plop a PRIV One in your loved ones stocking this holiday and I bet you they will be absolutely delighted, even if they use it only once and a while.

For the first hour, my PRIV One has been performing pretty well. Better than I expected. Good flavor, very decent clouds of vapor, with a tank that hidden in the mod, a tank that taps out at just 2mL…. But, with the traditional SMOK swing-hinge top-fill, you’ll know immediately that this tiny mod is indeed a SMOK mod.

2mL is just not enough capacity for me, for an e-liquid mod. (plenty for CBD, but the PRIV One is not a CBD mod) This mod is an All-in-One, so there is no way to expand the capacity of the tank.

Anyway…

The SMOK PRIV One is a 60W All-In-One Kit with a tiny form factor. The travel-friendly design is plastered with what SMOK calls shell patterns (?) that some will find gaudy, and a small 920mAh rechargeable battery. The top airflow is difficult to manage early, but as I review the device I’ll try to work it out and tell you the best way to work on it.

Measuring 2.9-inches by 1.74-inches by .9-inches, the PRIV One is said to be trying to balance performance with compact size in a leak-proof body. The whole thing seems haphazard, unfocused, a device that doesn’t know what it is, other than really small. I keep wondering why SMOK would bother with such a device when their talents lie in the high wattage magnificence of devices like the new SMOK Mag Starter Kit (A fantastic new Kit that includes the TFV12 Prince Tank)

The construction of the body features shell patterns on panels, a kind of weird paisley pattern. I’ve seen the three different color schemes and they are all equally strange. Before the review I chose the Silver model, the least offensive, and I’m glad I did.

The PRIV One uses a fire button panel like several other SMOK mods. It is a Direct Voltage system, directly correlating the battery life to determine the power range.  It has a maximum wattage of 60W when the tank’s coil resistance is 0.15ohm and the battery fully charged. As the battery power drains, so does the performance.

The SMOK PRIV One features plenty of safety protections, like all SMOK Mods, such as Impedance Protection, 8 seconds cut-off, low battery warning, and, of course, short-circuit protection.

Once again, the built-in tank carries a mere 2mL of e-juice, filling is done through a fairly convenient swivel top-fill access, and adjusting the airflow is pretty straightforward with its top-airflow ring.

The SMOK PRIV One uses the SMOK Stick AIO coils. The core of coils uses a top-loaded design that is said to prevent leakage and allowing easy installation and removal of used up coils.

The 0.6ohm Stick AIO Dual Coils (not preinstalled!) delivers pretty good flavor, decent clouds, and makes efficient use of the measly 920mAh internal battery. But don’t think you’ll get the same kind performance you would get with a real SMOK mod and Sub-Ohm tank. I vaped the PRIV One with my favorite juice and the flavor was significantly different than it is in my Uwell Valerian or TFV12 Prince-T10 Coils.

Definitely designed for entry-level users, I wouldn’t count on too many experienced vapers looking for a travel-friendly portable system as small as this, but I’m not sure yet.  The PRIV One Kit by SMOK has limited appeal, but I will withhold final judgement until I spend a week with it.

Available Now at Vapor Authority, expect to pay less than $25 for the device. But even at $25, unless you’re just starting out, is it the best choice out there for tiny mods? We’ll see. That said, as stocking stuffers for smokers looking to stop, or switch to vaping, at least it’s inexpensive and it does vape well enough to impress a smoker, or a cig-a-like user.
