SMOK G80 TC Starter Kit Full Review

The SMOK G80 TC Starter Kit turned out to be one of my favorite pocket mods to date. With a wattage range of 6W to 80W, and an ultra-low resistance of 0.06Ω, this very attractive setup won’t win any cloud contests with the included SMOK Spirals flavor tank, but it is the perfect mod and tank for relaxing in front of TV, watching movies. For all the places the SMOK G80 would feel at home, mine is kept on my end-table next to my recliner, and for $42.95 for the full kit, it’s hard to imagine a better value for my needs.

But, what about your needs? Can the SMOK G80 TC Starter Kit find a place in your life? If I was a betting girl, I’d say; “yes there is.” I’ll explain why below.

About the SMOK G80 TC Starter Kit

Note* For Google and Bing search engine results, I’m choosing to leave the letters “TC” in when naming this cool little setup, but since the SMOK Spirals Flavor Tank is the perfect companion, the Temperature Control suite on the board won’t see any action. Of course, with 80W of power and a diameter of 26.5mm, the Spirals Tank is only one of several dozen Sub-Ohm Tanks that would perform well sitting atop the SMOK G80.

The SMOK G80 TC Box Mod measures 75.5mm by 38.5mm by 26.5mm, or 4.6” tall, 2.3” wide, and 1.6” deep, has a soft curvature that fits just about any grip of any hand.

That Single 18650 Cell

The body of the SMOK G80 has a unique battery bay. Users simply slide off the top of the chassis (the black part that houses the OLED display) to reveal the battery compartment. Pop out the cell, pop a new one in, slide the piece back down onto the body. You’ll hear a slight click indicating the two parts of the G80 have once again become one. It’s a slick solution, and efficient as hell. The 18650 cell is not included, so unless you have plenty, I recommend the Nitecore 311mAh 35A cell for the best battery life possible.

Although it’s easy to expect the same SMOK OLED display that’s used with the SMOK Alien, and the SMOK AL85 (which is shorter than the G80), this OLED is much smaller. Yet, for as small as it is, all the necessary information is arranged neatly, and displayed in clear and bright OLEDs.

As we expected, SMOK is using their newest mid- wattage chipset, yielding an output range of 6 to 80W along with the full suite of temperature control regulation, and such nifty extras, such as Puff Monitoring. All the usual safety protections are also in place.

The SMOK G80 box mod’s choice of the Spirals Sub-Ohm Tank, is the correct tank to complete the G80 Starter Kit. The Spirals Tank is a 2mL juice capacity glass tank that is refilled through a simple, and effective threaded top-fill system. (The newer SMOK Spirals Plus Tank, with 4mL capacity, can also be used) By unscrewing the drip tip portion of the tank users can fill the tank without much risk of overfilling it.

And although the Spirals Tank is never going to wind a cloud production contest, if you own one you know just how marvelous the coils are at reproducing deep, true, flavors. Naturally, since we’re talking about SMOK products, these coils are Kanthal A1 and pure Japanese organic cotton.

In the Starter Kit box, or for that matter, the Spirals Tank box if purchased separately, contain two large coil heads:

  • 0.6ohm Spirals Dual Core – rated for 18 to 35W
  • 0.3ohm Spirals Dual Core – rated for 20 to 45W

The optional RBA head for the Spirals Plus Tank is not included in the SMOK G80 Kit, but it is included when purchasing the Spirals Plus Tank separately.

A SMOK Spirals Sub-Ohm Tank (2mL) costs $23.95, the Spiral Plus is $27.95 and holds a nice 4mL of juice. through Element Vape, and replacement coils run $12.95 for a pack of 5 coil heads. The Optional RBA head is $17.95, and personally, it’s not worth it. However, the cost of 0.3Ω and 0.6Ω coil packs is a good price.

SMOK G80 TC STARTER KIT CONCLUSON

I really, really like the SMOK G80 Starter Kit. As I indicated above, this is the mod and tank I use to relax. Most of time I use a high VG custard, or banana, or some rich dessert flavor in the Spirals Tank. Despite the small airflow slots and thin drip tip, I still manage to do Direct Lung vaping with it, though the draw is a lot tighter than other SMOK Sub-Ohms.

For more serious cloud production the newest SMOK mods include the SMOK G150 Kit, and for vape pen users, we’ll be reviewing the newest from SMOK, the Stick V8 baby and the Stick V8, as well as the Vape Pen Plus.

Color choices for the SMOK G80, so far, include a Gold body with black accents, a black body with green accounts, black body with red accents, and a stainless-steel body (silver) with no accents (a beautiful model). The gold model includes a gold tank, the silver mod includes a silver tank, the black body models use the same color accent on a black tank. (see photos)

Score: 9.8

“Intended as a relaxing flavor vape device, the SMOK G80 is well worth the $42.95 price. One of my favorite pieces now, and always within reach while at home.”
