The Aspire Athos Sub-Ohm Tank is $31.99, and available now at Vapor Authority. While we’re not yet ready to publish our official “review” of the Athos, there are some things that stand out right away that we can talk about. We’ll spend the next few hundred words telling you what we can, then next week we’ll let you know how well it stood up to the abuse we’re throwing at it daily.

The Aspire Athos looks like it should hold more than its official 4mL juice capacity. The height of the Athos is 58mm, or 2.28 inches tall. The diameter is a full 25mm. However, once you get a look at the size of the Coil Heads you’ll understand why the Athos is a 4mL tank.

If you’ve been vaping for a few years you might remember the sub-ohm tank(s) that sparked the revolution of sub-ohm vaping. It was the… well, it was actually two sub-ohm tanks, the Kanger Subtank and the Aspire Atlantis. Back in the day, these sub-ohms were magical, producing clouds of vapor and flavor that were beaten only by RDA’s of its time. Today, in 2017, the Aspire Athos makes the original sub-ohms look like half-measure solutions to cloud chasing.

What is the Aspire Athos Sub-Ohm Tank?

The Aspire Athos Tank is built using the highest quality materials. The body, the frame, and the chimney are made using 304 stainless steel. The glass tank is a premium-level borosilicate glass, allowing for the use of virtually any eliquid on the market.

“ELEMENT

Aesthetically speaking, the Aspire Athos Tank is a work of beauty. It possesses both an elegant design, as well as a work-horse design.  The Athos offers fine curves, progress from the bottom up to the short and tapered wide-bore drip tip. Some Vapers, like myself, love these tapered drip tips, other prefer a more standard type drip tip. Aspire, because of its subtle top-fill system, allows only the tapered wide bore drip tip to function.

There are large glass ports revealed around the frame on both sides of the tank enabling the user to easily monitor the e-juice remaining in the tank. Unfortunately, and we’ll get into this more in the “review”, the Aspire Athos is a very thirsty tank. I vape the 4mL of juice in less than half an hour. Surprisingly, I don’t mind because refilling it is super easy, and very fast.

The base of the Aspire Athos Tank has dual-adjustable airflow slots. Wide open, these airflow slots allow in a huge amount of air, which allows for very high wattage vaping while keeping the temperature of the vapor cool. Using the Penta-Coil has allowed me to vape at 100W with cool vapor, and it is only when taking it upward of 120W does it begin to warm up. During my review period, which I am still in, the best vape experience so far is closing down the airflow about half way, and vaping at 95W with the Penta-Coil. Beginning tomorrow I’ll begin using the Tri-Coil, which requires less wattage.

Touching on the Top-Fill system for a minute;  the Aspire Athos Tank is filled by unscrewing the top cap/drip tip to reveal the single juice port (there is a tiny hole opposite the fill slow to equalize the air displacement), the adding the e-juice, and then screwing the top cap/drip tip back on. It takes less than a minute from start to finish.

Aspire Athos Coil Structure

Users of the Aspire Athos can choose between the Tri-Coil configuration, with a resistance of 0.3 ohms, or the Penta-Coil, at 0.16 ohms. If the Tri-Coil holds up to the Penta-Coil in terms of vapor/flavor values, these are truly marvelous coils from Aspire. After 5 days I am still getting fantastic performance with the Penta-Coil using a MAX-VG e-juice.

Both coils are made with 100% pure Japanese organic cotton for wicking. The heating wire is Kanthal, once again driving home the point that Temperature Control is moving to the RDA/RDTA users in droves. The replacement coils are available at Vapor Authority as well, but they are expensive (everywhere), selling individually for $4.99 a piece.

While the Aspire Athos Sub-Ohm Tank looks nothing like the SMOK TFV8 or TFV12 tank line, or the Eleaf Melo 300, the performance is in the same league. If things remain the same for the next 5 days, I’ll be back with a very high score for this seemingly excellent tank.

“AVAILABLE”

Without making a judgement, or indicating a final score, which I’ll do for the official review, I can tell you that these past 5 days I have been enjoying the vape experience of not only the Athos Sub-Ohm Tank, but the Aspire Speeder Kit, which includes the 200W Speeder box mod and the Athos Sub-Ohm tank. Together they are a formidable pair. The speeder is a dual-18650 mod with a gorgeous body, delicious accents, and seems to be made with terrific materials. The official review for the Aspire Speeder Kit will be written by another Spinfuel Staff Reviewer and it will be interesting to read what he/she thinks about it. The Aspire Speeder Starter Kit is available now at Vapor Authority, and is priced at just $69.95, an excellent price by any standards.

It’s fair to say that Aspire has made some wonderful products in the past (and some pretty awful one too), and will continue to do so now that the US FDA has a new leader who understands the importance of electronic cigarettes (still hate the name!), and while the Chinese never faltered in delivering new products, can you imagine how many more they will begin producing now?

My standalone review for the Aspire Athos Sub-Ohm Tank will be published next week. Subscribe to our Newsletter so you won’t miss it… or drop by everyday for new reviews, previews, and cutting commentary in Spinfuel VAPE.
