Truth be told, I never thought I’d see the name “Noisy Cricket” again, much less on a gorgeous HIGH-END mechanical mod like the Wismec Luxotic NC. But sure enough, here it is – and after a few minutes with it, we might have to change the way we think about this powerful, advanced vaping format.

While the original Noisy Cricket mods were a bit rough around the edges – not to mention a little dangerous in the wrong hands – Wismec’s extensive experience in the vaping market has us confident that the Luxotic NC might be a potent, pretty change from today’s usual crop of mods. Let’s see why.

Wismec Luxotic NC Dual 20700 Mechanical Mod

Resin, as far as the eye can see…

“ELEMENT

Right away, you’re going to be floored by the Luxotic NC’s looks. This tall, commanding device jumps off shelves with a luxurious blend of shiny, light-catching resin swirls, and well-machined stainless steel, with a look that belies its relatively low price.

In other words, this isn’t the flimsy, cost-effective aluminum Noisy Cricket you remember from a few years back.

As a mechanical mod, the Luxotic NC has relatively few adornments on its stunning exterior, as there are no displays, control buttons or other inputs of any type. Instead, the mod has a large, rectangular fire key, a plasticky variable voltage dial, and a top-mounted toggle switch, to allow users to choose between series and parallel mode.

Uncluttered, and Unregulated

In series mode, the Luxotic NC operates like a standard, bare-bones variable voltage device – that is to say, the absolute most basic control possible. Though we’ve only had a few hours with the Luxotic NC, this mode seems to work well. Of course, we’ll push it a little harder during our actual testing.

When the switch is flipped, and the 20700 (18650 with included adapter) batteries are placed in the device in parallel, the Luxotic NC becomes a true mechanical mod, drawing power only from the cells, with no regulation to be had. This, of course, is for more advanced vapers – vapers who understand battery safety, ohm’s law, and the basics of building properly for devices like this.

If you’re new to the terms “series” and “parallel” this might not be the right box mod for you. Please do some research on battery safety before proceeding. Yes, the Luxotic NC has some safety features built in, but in any device that has the ability to function in more than one way, it’s still KEY for users to understand what they’re doing, and why they’re doing it.

Why? Because the Luxotic NC can pump out up to 250 unregulated watts – safety first, kids.

On that note – one MAJOR concern we have is with the documentation, which doesn’t consider newcomers. It’s a minimalist set of pictures and words, which assumes an awful lot of knowledge on the part of the user. While we hope responsible buyers will do their homework before attempting to use the Luxotic NC, Wismec should have considered a more thorough set of instructions before releasing this to market.

That said, we had no problems in our initial testing, and have enjoyed some nice, powerful puffs from the combination of the Luxotic NC mechanical mod and the included Guillotine V2 RDA. Speaking of which…

A Mighty Fine Dripper, Right in the Box…

The Luxotic NC kit includes the intriguing 24mm Guillotine V2 RDA, which is a simple, smoothly designed dual-coil dripper, with those sturdy guillotine clamps that make coil placement a breeze.

But this series is known for one thing – adjustable airflow. While the dual cyclops style airflow slots seem fairly standard, our quick runthrough shows the Guillotine V2 to be a fairly versatile dripper, with strong, concentrated flavor when the airflow is cut off, and massive, room-filling cloud production when it’s left open.

Wismec also includes a replaceable BF pin so the Guillotine V2 can be put to work as a viable squonk RDA. That, alongside a fairly hearty collection of coils, cotton and extra parts, make the Guillotine a nice addition to an already value-oriented kit.

We’re pretty excited about the Wismec Luxotic NC mechanical mod kit. Not just because of it’s absolutely stunning appearance, and decidedly different approach, but also because of the potent combination of the mod and RDA.

Of course, we’ll also be looking hard at the safety features, and whether or not the Luxotic NC is appropriate for less-experienced vapers, or if Wismec needs to go back and consider adding more detailed documentation to ensure newcomers are safe and educated about the potential power inside this mod.

Give us a week or so to get our thoughts on paper, and we’ll have a full review as soon as possible!
