OCEAN VIEW - Lost Vape Orion Plus DNA AIO System ReviewThe Lost Vape Orion Plus DNA AIO – When we review pod mods around here, we almost always refer back to the Lost Vape Orion as a benchmark device for the format. Well, it looks like we’re gonna have to update all those links, because even though the company didn’t have much competition, Lost Vape has outdone itself with the fully realized Orion Plus AIO System.

Fully Realized?

What do we mean by “fully realized?” The Orion Plus isn’t “just” a pod mod. And it’s not even “just” an AIO. This device is DNA-powered, hugely efficient and a genuinely good vape mod, regardless of labels. It might not be for everyone, but if you are willing to look past throwaway pod devices, and spend a little more money, you’ll be rewarded with a much better experience. Here’s the lowdown.

Impressions/Aesthetics for the Lost Vape Orion Plus

At first glance, you’ll probably wonder why Lost Vape is releasing the same device as before, because this is largely a clone of the original Orion. But then again, if it ain’t broke, right? Though it’s hard to get excited about resin side panels and tiny displays, the Orion Plus has an air of professionalism and class that most vape mods simply can’t convey.

Plus, the Orion Plus is weightier and more substantial than its predecessor, giving users a more reassuring feel in the hand. A lot of this can be attributed to the rock-solid alloy frame, as well, which is as strong and durable as ever.

Even the moving parts, from buttons to adjustment switches, fill caps and more — it’s all done with a level of precision and care that you’re simply not going to find on many mods, pods or otherwise.

The box-like format might not be unique anymore, but Lost Vape more or less brought it to the mainstream, and they still do it better than all the imitators that have arrived in their wake, so they get full credit for look and feel.

Standout Features of the Orion Plus The original Orion had three fairly distinct power level settings, but that’s been boosted to five on the Orion Plus. This alone wouldn’t be that newsworthy, since there’s less distinction between them. But what’s really cool is that all five of these power settings are compatible with the included sub-ohm mesh coils.

You’re not going to risk scorching on the max power level, and you’re not going to have a weak experience on the lowest setting. Instead, you’ll simply have more flexibility to craft your ideal vape with the Orion Plus. Though I still prefer having more precise adjustments, for a pod/AIO setup, this is about as personalized as it gets.

(And yes, DNA chipset enthusiasts, all of these adjustments are editable through Evolv’s much-ballyhooed Escribe software, even if it’s largely unnecessary with this style of device.)

Speaking of the coils, both the heads are sub-ohm capable, with the 0.25-ohm head drawing roughly 22 watts from the mod, while the 0.5-ohm head is a little more conservative on power. But both are more than capable of delivering solid direct-lung vaping — enhanced by the mod’s “Boost” mode, which gives a quick jolt of power on lower-resistance coils.

If you’re interested in more traditional mouth-to-lung (MTL) vaping, a simple airflow adjustment turns the Orion Plus into a fantastic device for these purposes. And yes, the coils are both able to be used for either style of vaping. The versatility is simple, yet perfect for a wide range of use cases.

MESH - Lost Vape Orion Plus DNA AIO System ReviewThe integrated 950mAh battery is pretty efficient, but to be honest, battery life was one of the few letdowns on the Orion Plus. I managed about four solid hours of vaping before the device tapped out and needed a charge, but given the DNA chip’s … well… genetics, I was hoping for all-day levels of performance. We’ve seen plenty worse, but the original Orion was better on battery life.

One nice item to note — the Orion Plus is 100% compatible with original Orion coil heads, should you have a stockpile of them. But these new mesh heads are arguably the best we’ve seen in an ultracompact AIO mod. Rich flavor, thick vapor and weeks of longevity equal some of the best vaping we’ve had from these pod/AIO mods.

While nic salt juices are likely to be the preferred formula for experienced pod vapers, I found the Orion Plus pods and heads were more than capable of handling thicker liquids as long as you don’t chain vape and allow the wicks to recover after longer draws. And even with those juices, the flavor is still nuanced and rich.

Pros:

  • An even better version of the best pod/AIO out there
  • Fantastic coil performance and longevity
  • Great customization and feature set

Cons:

  • Battery life is iffy
  • DNA chipset isn’t really that necessary
  • Other than a few unique designs, the same device we’ve seen for a year

Spinfuel VAPE Recommendation and Score

There are rumors that owners of the original Lost Vape Orion will be able to upgrade their firmware and get the same experience as the Orion Plus, so we’re going to stop a little short of calling this “essential” if you’re a current owner. But if you’re a pod/AIO vaper and haven’t experienced a higher-end device, the Lost Vape Orion Plus is a must buy. From flavor clarity to versatility, there aren’t many devices in this category that even come close.
