Snowwolf is going all-in with the recent integrated battery mod trend, and after the success that was the Zephyr kit, one would forgive Snowwolf for a mild letdown. But that’s not their style. Even though the 2,500mAh KFENG kit is aimed more to beginners and entry-level vapers, SnowWolf didn’t spare any attention to detail here.

“ELEMENT

It may not be perfect, but simple, potent performance is the name of the game with the KFENG kit.

Let’s see why we liked it so much, starting with the details.

The new Snowwolf KFENG Starter Kit implements a decent sized integrated 2,500mAh battery. In addition, an advanced IFV80 Smart Chipset. The Snowwolf MARK Sub-Ohm Tank completes the starter kit. Together creating a heavy hitting vaping starter kit that is perfect for beginner or advanced users.

Zinc-Alloy Construction

Crafted from durable zinc-alloy chassis, the Snowwolf KFENG Kit is compact and handheld for an ergonomic grip. Still, it retains the signature 3D raised wolf logo. A 3D raised logo that some like and others despise.

The Joy of Features

SILVER - SNOWWOLF KFENG 80W STARTER KITFiring at speeds as fast as 0.008s thanks to the IFV80 Chipset. The KFENG Box Mod is also capable of outputting up to 80W. For those that might want to use it’s Temp Control abilities,  it can be used in combination with the comprehensive TC suite. It allows advanced users to select and restrict output levels to their ideal preference.

Featuring a threaded 510 connection fastening the included Snowwolf Mark Sub-Ohm Tank, the Mark Tank can hold up to 3mL of e-juice with the bubble glass expansion but holds the traditional 2mL within the standard straight glass.

MESH COILS and FILLING

Within the stainless-steel tank, Snowwolf introduces the Mark-X mesh coil, facilitating dense clouds of flavorful vapor. Refills are accommodated via a sliding top fill system, while airflow is adjusted via a dual slotted bottom airflow control ring, metering the amount of airflow rushing through the epicenter of the coil configuration.

Aesthetics of the SnowWolf KFENG

These cross-style, tube/box devices seem to be growing in popularity lately, but the best way to describe the KFENG mod is like a stouter, weightier version of the iJOY Katana. It may be shorter and girthier, but by and large, the look and feel are the same, right down to the button layout and display.

But we should say that the KFENG is far more professionally finished than the Katana, with more aesthetic flair and attention to detail. Though the Katana was no slouch, subtle additions like the faded pattern graphic go a long way toward making the KFENG stand out from the pack.

However, for every yin there’s a yang, and one of our LEAST favorite Snowwolf design choices is back in full force — the 3D wolf head cutout. After several rounds of devices with much more grip-friendly designs, Snowwolf felt the need to poke your palm again. Even though it’s recessed a bit, there’s really only one comfortable way to hold the KFENG — wolf outward.

It’s a shame, too. Because the rest of the KFENG is comfortable and easy to operate with one hand, with responsive, flush buttons and an easy-to-read display. Even the linear menus are pretty dummy proof, requiring just a few minutes to nail down entirely.

80 Watts in a Small KFENG Body

One thing worth noting — the KFENG is a small device, and any tanks over 24mm are going to hang over the tapered top portion. The included MARK-X tank is just 22mm in diameter, so no worries there. But anything larger than that risks making the mod unbalanced and uneven.

Vaping the Snowwolf KFENG Kit

The box says the KFENG is an 80-watt mod. The box also says the MARK-X is a sub-ohm tank. But truth be told, this isn’t a high-wattage kit, nor are these coils designed for heavy sub-ohm usage. Instead, you need to look at this as a restricted lung, or even a limited MTL device, with higher-wattage capabilities as needed.

Throw-Back Sub-Ohm

TANK - SNOWWOLF KFENG 80W STARTER KITWhat does this mean? The tank is throwback to simpler times, when “sub-ohming” didn’t mean reaching to the highest wattages or the absolute minimum resistances. Instead, this tank (and it’s two minimalist mesh coils) hearken back to the days of the Kanger Subtank or similar tanks. That’s not to say they’re bad by any means. But if you’re looking to the KFENG (and the MARK-X) for room-fogging and ultra-deep flavors, you might be missing the point.

Keeping the setup focused on low-wattages and simple flavors is the target, and as a convenient, pocket-friendly option, the KFENG hits the mark. Both coils lasted roughly two weeks with moderate use at mid-wattage (30-50 watt) levels

Solid Operation

Looking past the tank, the KFENG operates flawlessly. In 2020, there’s nothing even close to revolutionary or forward-thinking about an 80-watt mod with a horizontal, monochrome OLED, two-button operation or limited wattage output. But there also doesn’t need to be. Need a powerful wattage mode, it’s here. Want some simple, no-fuss temp control vaping, it’s also here. Or maybe you want to tweak some basic power curve settings, it’s there for the taking.

COLORS - SNOWWOLF KFENG 80W STARTER KITFlashtech Charging

One element of the KFENG that WAS a standout was the Flashtech charging, which took our depleted devices from empty to full in near-record time. The 2,500 mAh integrated battery does not last all day. Thanks to this ridiculously quick charge time, it didn’t have to. As long as you have a USB-C cord and a wall adapter, you’ll be back up and running by your next break.

Pros:

  • Compact, one-handed operations
  • Fast firing and recharging
  • Easy to navigate, even for beginners

Cons:

  • Tank is a little weak for 2020 standards
  • Might be too limited for advanced vapers, too powerful for beginners
  • That damn wolf hurts the hand!

The KFENG Bottom Line

The SnowWolf KFENG has some warts. In the end, the starter kit ultimately offers a no muss, no fuss vaping experience. And to some, that’s perfect — vaping doesn’t need software and laser light shows, just reliable performance. If you’re in the market for simplicity without sacrificing power and control, this is the type of mod you need.
