When you get a ton of devices to review each week, there’s rarely anticipation for a specific mod, tank or other vape gear. However, anticipation is precisely what we’re feeling for the GTRS VBOY 200-watt box mod.

GTRS just recently caught our attention with the nifty, durable GT150 mod, but the VBOY appears to be the fledgling company’s new flagship vape mod. With a high-end, ergonomic chassis on the outside, and the top-tier YiHi SX500 chipset providing the internals, the VBOY has a chance to make a significant statement against more established names on shop shelves.

“ELEMENT

Comfort and usability appear to be the name of the game here, as GTRS has melded a seamless combination of plastic, alloy and silicone parts in the VBOY to create a mod that is as easy to hold as it is to use and vape. The product photos point to a mod that is soft to grip and anti-slip, with a sturdy but supple design that will work well in either hand.

With all of these elements comprising the body, the VBOY also appears to make a bold visual statement. With a wide selection of color combinations, including the intriguing Tiffany Blue, GTRS isn’t going for subtlety.

Pastels aside, our mothers always taught us that quality is measured by “what’s on the inside.” If Mom is right, then the dual-battery GTRS VBOY is going be a mod rich with great character and personality. The YiHi SX500 chip was a winning performer in the SX Mini G-Class, and we anticipate the same results here – perhaps even better ones, due to the VBOY’s improved control scheme and more accessible operation.

The VBOY’s 1.3-inch, full-color TFT screen is a site to behold. The available real estate and vivid display allows the user unprecedented visibility into any number of functions and customizations, right down to wallpaper and display theme. On the G-Class, this high-resolution screen was bright and easy to view, even in daylight, and we expect the same from the VBOY.

Perhaps the only concern we have about the ergonomics is the centered fire button position, which is perfectly accessible, but likely not as user-friendly as a side-mounted trigger. Regardless of which hand vapers use to fire, part of the screen will inevitably be obstructed during use. For some, this isn’t a big deal. But as someone who likes to see my display whenever possible, this small detail might affect usability.

“AVAILABLE”

The SX500 chipset brings 200-watts of proven power, laser-precise temperature control, and a bevy of other functions and features to put it in the rarified air of DNA products. While the included YiHi software isn’t quite as deep as Escribe, we have had no problems crafting pinpoint heating curves and coil resistance settings with the chipset.

In turn, fire strength settings, ranging from Soft to Powerful+ round out the offering nicely, allowing users to adjust preheat and ramping to their liking, without sacrificing overall vape quality.

Like we mentioned to open this preview, it’s rare that we wait for a new mod with bated breath, but the GTRS VBOY appears to be an ideal blend of looks, power and performance that could potentially become a “go to” mod for a very wide range of vapers.

Expect our detailed GTRS VBOY review to post shortly after it arrives in the next few weeks.
