It seems like only yesterday, I got my hands on my first 150-watt Mod. I won’t mention names, but it was large, boxy (almost cuboidin design) and extremely flawed. But at the time, I was floored to see 150-watt capability out of what seemed “compact” at the time. Fast forward to today, and I’m seeing the same 150 watts come out of the Eleaf Tessera Mod Kit – a device roughly half the size of that cube-like box I mentioned above.

Yeah, technology has come a long way in a short period of time, which can only benefit the vaping community. Because not only is the Tessera a truly compact 150-watt Mod – it’s also a damn good one… at least from our initial rounds of testing. We have a lot more to investigate about the Eleaf Tessera Mod Kit, but we’re feeling pretty good about it so far!

Let’s take a quick peek to see what has us so excited…

Eleaf Tessera 150W TC Pocket-Friendly Box Mod Kit

A Truly Pocket-Friendly Performer

“ELEMENT

There’s that term again – pocket-friendly. (A list of the best for 2018)We use it a lot, but the Tessera might be the most streamlined and compact mid-wattage device we’ve seen. Even with an internal battery. Barely taller than an actual 21700 battery, the Mod is a perfect palm device, especially with the flush fire bar built into the side of the Tessera’s metallic frame.

Though it’s not related to the mod’s slim design, the Tessera’s all-new display is an early highlight of our review. Its crystal clear, full-color readouts give you all necessary information, presented through a very legible and attractive layout.

As I’ve mentioned before, Eleaf has raised its display game over the last year, and we only hope more people are taking notice. This one might not be AS attractive as the phenomenal Eleaf iStick Kiya screen (which we are PRAYING Eleaf will bring to a higher-wattage device), it’s still sharp, unique and better than most overthought displays on the market today.

We haven’t spent a ton of time messing around with the menu system just yet, but the linear format has been a breeze to navigate, and we expect new users will feel the same.

Under the Hood of this Pocket-Friendly Tessera

Even with such diminutive dimensions, Eleaf has crammed a ton of amazing features into a tiny space. The Tessera is powered by a decent 3,400 mAh internal battery, 150 watts of output, full temperature control suite, TCR customization, and more. While our time with the Tessera has been limited, we haven’t put down our test models in several days.

In terms of compatibility, Eleaf has produced a highly ergonomic but versatile box with capability to power just about any tank on the market – with no overhang to boot. The included Ello TS sub-ohm tank is a good match for newcomers, but we’ll be sure to test the tank under a wide range of circumstances, to make sure it matches up with the Tessera’s target audience.

Using other tanks was easy as well, and we’ll continue to use a variety of atomizers to see which one best matches up with the Tessera’s size and capabilities.

A Few Questions and Concerns

So far, we’ve been pretty happy with the performance and usability of the Eleaf Tessera Mod Kit. But that doesn’t mean we haven’t developed a few nagging concerns along the way.

First and foremost, the battery capacity has us a little worried about whether or not the Tessera can function as an “all day” device. While 3,400mAh isn’t terrible, we’ve seen internal battery Mods with more than twice this capacity, and a similar size and form factor. I know Eleaf was looking to cram a lot of technology into a small space, but this is one area we’ll be watching pretty closely over the next week or so.

The other concern we had was with the onboard 2-amp charging, which worked fast, but also made the Tessera uncomfortably warm while plugged in. Perhaps 2-amp charging is too much for a device this small, and so we have concerns – especially given the Tessera’s lack of visible venting.

Despite these hiccups, the Eleaf Tessera Box Mod Kit has our attention and we can’t wait to watch it more closely over the next week to find out what else this dynamite little Mod Kit has in store. Stay tuned for the full review!
