The HotCig DX75 – A DNA 75 Mod Review
Evolv’s most recent board, seen in the HotCig DX75, the new DNA 75, might, at first glance, look like a step backward. After all, the DNA 200 board has been adopted by several mod manufacturers… successfully I might add, so why go back in terms of wattage? There must be something more to the DNA 75 than its wattage, no?
Well, not really. The Evolv DNA 75 is not meant to replace the successful DNA200, but rather to offer manufacturers a board that can handle the needs of the majority of vapers, new and advanced, without throwing so much power at them. Seriously now, what do you think the percentage of DNA200 users actually use this much power? Not many. For some, the DNA200 is a blessing, for others, an expensive waste of power. While I love every DNA 200 mod I own, there is something about having all the great features of the Evolv Board, which I’ll get to, with plenty of power, longer battery life, and less eliquid consumption than the more powerful 200w board.

The Evolv DNA 75 board fires up to 75 watts maximum while outputting up to 35 amps. The DNA 75 board works with a single 18650 cell instead of a three-cell battery, or the 3-pack LiPo. This alone frees up mod makers to create some exquisite designs and at the same time keep the size down. And besides, like me, I’m sure you know plenty of Vapers that don’t want to use triple-18650 mods. Don’t misunderstand, I love my Triple-18650’s, but for many others it’s not easy to keep 6 18650 fully charged, married, and numbered for proper rotation.
The Evolv DNA75 features all of the same awesome Temperature Control features (including the latest firmware improvements), fantastically accurate wattage mode, and the ability to use the EScribe software to further customize these devices the way they want to.
HotCig DX75 – A DNA75 18650/26650 Mod
The HotCig DX75, a 75W DNA75 Box Mod is one of the first devices to use the Evolv’s DNA75 board
and display, using a single 18650 or 26650 powered chassis alongside plenty of power. A wattage range of 1 to 75W, plus sophisticated Temperature Control technology, and fully customized settings with eScribe, are only some of the features with this classic mod.
The design, reminiscent of the Vaporflask Stout, includes a soft contour and a moderate bulge on one end to accommodate both the 26650 battery and to provide a solid grip for Vapers.
The HotCig DX75 comes with the 18650 adapter installed in the battery chamber so users can pop in an 18650 and start vaping. To use the 26650 battery instead the user will need to pop out that adapter, which at first try is not easy. A good grip, and a firm pull will release the adapter tube. I recommend the use of a 26650 to start with, not only because accommodates it perfectly, but because the battery life and maximum power output can be maintained longer.
That Red LED!
One strange feature of the HotCig DX75 is the flashing red LED light inside the firing button. A red LED usually means “warning”, and when I first began using the mod I feared there was something wrong with it. I think most people would. So, after checking to make sure the battery was in the correct way, that I was not trying to overcook the atomizer, I decided to search the net to see if this was the way it was supposed to work. I was shocked to see so little on the net about this device.
In any case, after about 2 weeks of working with a mod that displayed a red LED under the fire button, which then turned blue when the fire button was held down for vaping, I made the decision that this was the correct function for this particular device (Not other DNA75 mods though).
Battery Chamber Door
Another feature that seemed to work well on the HotCig DX75 is the threaded battery cap. While the treads could be smoother, it’s not a real problem, and the addition of a gold/copper adjustment screw in the middle of the cap allows users to maintain a rattle-free mod.
Personal Impressions
I really like all Evolv DNA boards, and I welcome a mid-range 75w DNA. The board is being used in
more than a handful of mods now, including the Lost Vape Theron, which I will begin reviewing next. While the Lost Vape DNA75 mod is definitely the winner in the aesthetics department, let’s not forget that all devices built with the Evolv DNA75 board will behave the same.
My HotCig DX75 came in a bamboo like box, not that easy to get into without breaking part of it, and includes a USB cable and manual. Mine is all black, just the right size for any hand (considering the 26650 battery there is no wasted space), and the button placement and delicious display makes this a great buy. Element Vape is selling the HotCig DX75 for just $89.95, which is a great price for an authentic DNS75 mod.
Wrap Up
The Evolv DNA 75 chipset, the heart of the HotCig DX75, is a highly intelligent board, with a maximum output of 75Watts, capable of 85% power efficiency ratings. It includes the latest firmware for the best temperature control suite of any Evolv board to date. The Hotcig DX75 provides enough power to drive Sub-Ohm Tanks, RDAs, and RTAs, with the exception of the SMOK Cloud Beast equipped with the .25-ohm coil (that needs at least 85-90 watts) The Hotcig DX75 DNA75 Box Mod is an excellent combination of affordability, Evolv performance, and a compact, 18650/26650 form factor.
