Tempest 200W TC Box Mod Review

When I saw the price of the CoV Tempest 200W TC Box Mod I was very, very surprised. $69.95 for a 200w Box Mod that looks and performs in the $200-$250 range.

You know what I mean by that? Mods that world class mod designers spend months working on to get the perfect aesthetic, molding and nudging every edge, every corner, into just the right size and shape, choosing the right materials, the right weight… until the modder feels it’s just right. You have to hand it to Council of Vapor (CoV), this last year or so has seen some of the best looking, best built mods and tanks come from these company. I’ll admit it right now; I love the Tempest. I can’t see anyone holding it, using it, not loving it too.

About the CoV Tempest 200W

The Council of Vapor Tempest 200W TC Box Mod is a 3x 18650 battery mod, more than capable of outputting a maximum wattage of 200W, with a fully capable temperature control system, all wrapped around an exquisitely embossed carbon fiber panel with zinc and chrome chassis and accents. From the moment I began using it, the nuanced shape that fits the palm of any hand in a way that would allow for hours and hours of gripping with complete comfort, I knew this was going to replace a few mods I have in my own mod rotation.

The CoV Tempest 200W TC Mod is now being called the flagship device in the CoV lineup, which is perfectly understandable.

CoV has developed a proprietary chipset for their TC capabilities, and pulling out as much efficiency from the 3x power cells, with three optional Ramp Up Modes: ranging from slower ramp speed for mouth-to-lung style to power mode for the fastest ramp speed.

The customizable settings allow for exacting adjustments of the ramp/decline settings along with the temperature control boundaries. The awesome specs detail how every user can use virtually all existing Sub-Ohm Tanks, RDAs, and Council of Vapor. As I put the Tempest through its paces there wasn’t a single tank, RDA or RTA that didn’t perform admirably. Combine this amount of choice for atomizers with a gorgeous and well-built machine and the CoV Tempest 200W TC Box Mod is the perfect combination of form and function.

In addition to the 200W of power, the ultra-low resistance of 0.05-ohms allows you to experiment with a variety of atomizers and ejuice, and its TC capabilities allow for fine tuning your vape like never before.

At just 85mm by 58mm by 37mm, the CoV Tempest 200W Mod features a true, timeless industrial design. Made from Zinc and Chrome for the chassis, a carbon fiber panel that adds a visually arresting body.

Three Cell Structure

Council of Vapor certainly isn’t the originator of the 3x 18650 cell structure to power a 200-watt box mod, but the way

CoV designed the battery compartment, from its sliding pop up battery door to the easy method of mounting the 3 cells with much less resistance than some others, including the Lost Vape Triade DNA200, makes using a 3x cell mod much easier, and the overall size of the CoV Tempest makes it appear to be a lot smaller and easier to handle.

Carbon Fiber and Superior Rubber Finish

For the longest time various people have complained loudly about any mod with a “rubberized finish”, complaining all the time about how this rubber wears off too quickly, exposing the chassis to the harsh elements of the outside. I can’t say with certainty, not yet, but the CoV Tempest 200W Mod has a rubberized paint job that feel super luxurious, thicker, softer, yet at the same time, more durable that any rubberized mod I’ve had before now… and I ‘ve had many. Combine that with the carbon fiber middle panel and I just know that a year from now, with heavy use, the Tempest will look every bit as good as it does now.

Tempest 200W TC Box Mod – Basic Operation

To get to the Menu of the Council of Vapor Tempest do a 5-click fire button press. Once in the Menu all you need to do is

click the Fire Button to go to the next menu item. Cycling through the menu options is super easy, and fast.

Inside the menu you can turn the CoV Tempest 200W TC Box Mod on or off, switch between TC and VW modes, adjust power settings and set to memory, and switch display orientation.

Working Modes

The CoV Tempest 200w allows you to set the Working mode to one of three settings; Soft, Standard, Powerful. These modes will alter the ramp curve of the initial output.

Temperature Control

The CoV Tempest 200W Box Mod includes a full temperature control suite that features onboard support for Ni200 (Pure Nickel), Ti (Titanium), and SS (Stainless Steel) heating elements. In TC mode the output range is 220 to 580 degrees Fahrenheit.

Keep in Mind

When you use a Dual or Triple 18550 mod make sure to buy 2 or 3 new, high amp 18650’s and marry them to the device. Yes, it’s an expense, but one I think important enough to mention. You’ll get the best performance from the mod and the batteries by marrying them TO the mod, and making sure to charge them externally in a Nitecore charger at the same time.

The Bottom Line

It would be hard to criticize the beauty of the CoV Tempest. It’s carbon fiber panel, its thick, soft rubberized finish is so

silky and smooth that holding it is pleasurable. The design causes the Tempest to rest inside the palm of your hand, and the excellent button positions make using it one smooth operation.
