SMOK Mag P3 Mini Kit – No matter how much we argue, people seem to love SMOK’s “gun trigger” aesthetic for the Mag series, so we’re going to put our personal feelings aside and review the all-new SMOK Mag P3 Mini kit with an open mind. Because, you know what? Not only is the streamlined Mini a lot less inflammatory in its design, but it’s also a rock-solid vape kit for newcomers to high-end vaping.

It may not be perfect, but the Mini packs some maximum value in the box. Let’s take a deeper dive, starting with the specs.

Aesthetics of the SMOK Mag P3 Mini

While the asymmetric, trigger-like design isn’t for everyone, no one can deny SMOK’s commitment to the look and feel. Nor can they question the comfort of the format. Though it’s a shrunken, miniaturized version of the tremendous original Mag series, SMOK has maintained the level of comfort and ergonomics well, with the Mini sitting nicely in the hand.

White - SMOK Mag P3 MiniObviously, with a trigger design, the Mag P3 Mini isn’t the most versatile vape mod you’re going to use this year, but the smooth grip area and nicely textured exterior ensure you’ll enjoy maximum comfort throughout the experience.

Interestingly, even though this is a much smaller device than its predecessors, the Mini is capable of accommodating 30mm tanks comfortably. They may look a little imbalanced sitting atop the diminutive frame, but there’s no overhang or awkward connections to be had.

3000mAh Internal Battery

As mentioned above, the rubberized outer coating feels good in the hand. But it also helps dissipate heat generated by the internal 3,000 mAh battery, while also offering mild waterproofing and shockproofing. Maybe you don’t want to test these claims TOO hard, but the Mag P3 Mini will hold up just fine if you’re clumsy or get caught in the rain.

The full-color TFT display would have stood out a few years ago, but seems fairly subdued when compared to SMOK’s usual array of high-res screens. Considering the limited real estate, this is more than understandable, and the display communicates all essential information clearly and legibly, even if it’s not a “groundbreaking” design. Likewise, the straightforward, click-driven menu system is standard fare, but works well for newcomers and veterans alike.

SMOK TF Tank

SMOK Mag P3 Mini TankSMOK Mag P3 Mini CoilsThe companion SMOK TF sub-ohm tank is another solid offering from the company. It may not sing like some of SMOK’s larger, more elaborate tanks, but as an inclusion in the box, the TF looks perfect atop the Mini, while offering predictably smooth, flavorful vaping right out of the gate.

One MINOR complaint is the color selection, which is awfully pedestrian by SMOK’s usual standards. My gray and black test model wasn’t a knockout by any means, but it matched most of my tanks and RDAs well. SMOK would do well to consider a much more refined finish for all their mods and tanks.

Vaping the SMOK Mag P3 Mini Kit

Vaping a SMOK kit in 2020 is like visiting an old friend. The company isn’t nearly as prolific with its high-end devices as it was a few years ago, so we’re not AS accustomed to seeing new SMOK kits hit our desks like they once did. But thankfully, SMOK has never wavered in delivering comfortable, enjoyable devices, and the Mini happily hits all those same notes.

As expected, the Mini ramps in unbelievably quick fashion, with near-instant hits of flavor the moment you press the clicky trigger button. Because there’s no temp control options on the Mag P3 Mini, SMOK clearly wanted to make this tiny box mod scream with power. Well, they succeeded, with smooth, stutter-free performance all the way to its 80-watt limit.

Using the included TF tank (and the mesh and ceramic coils in the box) I ran the Mini through its paces and it never once faltered in delivering flavor and vapor by the bucketload. Even better, the integrated 3,000mAh battery performed better than expected, with nearly a full workday of moderate vaping before I had to recharge.

(The onboard charging wasn’t the fastest we’ve seen, but was more than adequate, given the cell’s larger capacity.)

3 Colors p- SMOK Mag P3 MiniWhile the TF tank was a leak-free, top-tier performer when broken in, unfortunately, only the 0.25-ohm mesh head was a solid option. This coil gave me nearly two steady weeks of regular use and multiple e-liquid changes before calling it quits. Unfortunately, the 0.5-ohm ceramic head wasn’t nearly as enjoyable, with muted flavors, thin vapor and considerably less durability than its companion.

Through the years, ceramic coils have been consistently inconsistent, and these options do nothing to change that perspective. Considering how good mesh heads have gotten, maybe it’s time we put ceramic coils to bed for good.

Overall, the entire experience was predictable and enjoyable, which is more than we usually say about most mid-wattage kits these days. If there was any complaint to be had it was that the tank and device get a little warmer than expected at higher wattages. The rubber coating helps to alleviate some discomfort on the mod itself, but the tank can scorch if you’re not careful.

SMOK Mag P3 Mini Pros:

  • Extremely comfortable
  • Fast ramping
  • Great battery life

SMOK Mag P3 Mini Cons:

  • Still a divisive design choice
  • Device and tank get too warm at higher wattages
  • Poor ceramic coil head

Bottom Line

These days, any new SMOK mod kit is welcome on our desks, and despite our initial reservations, the SMOK Mag P3 Mini kit proved to be one of the better new setups on the market. Its extremely comfortable, powerful feel belies its miniature size, and provided a thoroughly enjoyable vape from beginning to end.
