With a few other manufacturers trying their hand at the large Touchscreen Mod, SMOK is already moving to a new and improved (?) Smok G-PRIV 2. (an extra 10W too, from 220W in the first G-PRIV to 230W in this new one ) Our Preview today covers the SMOK G-PRIV 2 TC Starter Kit, which includes the newest TFV8 sub-ohm tank, the TFV8 X-Baby Beast.
SMOK G PRIV 2 New Touchscreen Mod
The soon-to-ship SMOK G PRIV 2 MOD is, like the version 1, built with high-quality materials. Its body, frame, and the its chassis are constructed with a durable aluminum-zinc alloy, with carbon fiber paneling, and a smooth optically brilliant, shatter-resistant tempered glass, or so the manufacturer details tells us.
The new SMOK G-PRIV 2 is using the latest advanced chip from SMOK, which is said to provide a wide range of handy features, and an easier menu system.
There is of course the tried and true variable wattage mode, which is the most popular mode in any mod these days. With the latest SMOK Chipset this enables the user to precisely regulate the amount of power used to gain an optimal vape experience with the included X-Baby Beast sub-ohm tank, or any other tank or RDA/RTA the user might want to use.
The SMOK G-PRIV 2 delivers a wattage range of 1W to an amazing 230W with DUAL 18650 cells. (How these manufacturers are able to up the wattage with single and dual 18650’s is fascinating)
The SMOK G-PRIV 2 is designed to operate via the Touchscreen, with virtual buttons on the screen rather than physical ones. If SMOK has improved their Touchscreen technology perhaps there will be less accidental increases or decreases with various settings when not fiddling with the controls. One of the issues I had with Version 1 was pulling the device from a pocket and moving the wattage without noticing it. If moved to maximum wattage by mistake, well, the result is extremely unpleasant. That will be something I’ll look at first and foremost.
With the G-PRIV 2, there is an ability to Lock/Unlock the Touchscreen to prevent accidentally altering the settings, and this time you can still fire the mod. Certainly not exclusive to the G-PRIV 2, but a feature I welcome.
Temperature Control Suite of the SMOK G-PRIV 2
While Temperature Control, Temperature Sensing is still features on all modern mods, and again here with the SMOK G PRIV 2, it is a technology that in our opinion is waning.
That said, the G-PRIV 2 and its temperature control, sensing, and limiting ability, is said to be improved. When used with a Tank containing a coil head made with titanium, stainless steel, or nickel heating coils, the MOD’s TC function is said to provide an even more accurate temperature protection than previous models.
Being able to fine-tune the temperature of the vapor, allowing the user to enjoy warmer or cooler Direct Lung hits is an appealing feature and once considered a major advancement in electronic cigarettes. However, until such time that these alternative-to-Kanthal heating wires can deliver the rich flavor of Kanthal, it’s just not catching on as much as manufacturers had anticipated. Progress has been made with stainless steel, in my opinion, my Joyetech ProCore SS coils, but Nickel and, especially, Titanium, leave much to be desired when it comes to bringing out the natural flavor of the best e-liquids. Still, if temperature control is your thing, the G-PRIV 2 is supposed to deliver an excellent experience.
The SMOK G-PRIV 2 features firmware upgradability for those with Window PC’s. There is still NO Mac version available. With the included USB cable, the user can connect the device to any desktop or laptop computer in order to download the latest firmware updates from SMOK. While no manufacturer ever seems to deliver more than one, maybe two, firmware updates, this is not what makes or breaks the value of new mod for this reviewer.
Safety features with the SMOK G-PRIV 2 are pretty much the standard these days. Short Circuit Protection, Reverse Polarity Protection, Low Voltage Protection, High Voltage Protection, Low Resistance Protection, and Overheating Protection are all there. These safety measures will provide you with tremendous peach-of-mind when using or charging your SMOK G PRIV 2 MOD.
