For a lesser vape device, a lot of reviewers would call the all-new Lost Vape Orion Q-ULTRA pod mod an unnecessary dip in the well. But when you look past any redundancies and similarities, there’s still an awful lot to like for pod vapers, especially if they haven’t used a Lost Vape AIO before.

Let’s start with the details and see where it goes.

Aesthetics of the Lost Vape Orion Q-ULTRA

At first glance, you’ll probably wonder why Lost Vape is releasing the same device as before, because this is largely a clone of the original Orion and all the various iterations that followed. Though it’s hard to get excited about resin side panels and tiny displays, the Orion Q-ULTRA has an air of professionalism and class that most vape mods simply can’t convey.

Plus, the Orion Q-ULTRA is weightier and more substantial than its predecessor, giving users a more reassuring feel in the hand. A lot of this can be attributed to the rock-solid alloy frame, as well, which is as strong and durable as ever.

As always, the entire device from buttons to adjustment switches, airflow adjustment caps and more — are delivered with a level of precision and care that you’re simply not going to find on many mods — pod devices or otherwise.

Packaging - Skip to the end of the images gallerySkip to Navigation Skip to the beginning of the images gallerySkip to Navigation LOST VAPE ORION Q-ULTRAThe compact box mod format might not be unique anymore, but Lost Vape more or less brought it to our attention in the first place, and they still do it better than the countless imitators that have arrived since the original (DNA-powered) version landed more than a year ago. That along makes the Q-ULTRA worth a look.

Vaping the Lost Vape Orion Q-ULTRA

Internally, Lost Vape basically took the recent versions of the Orion series and added a little more “oomph” in the form of 40-watt power output. This alone wouldn’t be that newsworthy, since there’s less distinction between this and previous editions than ever before. Still, if you max out the power.

Thanks to a thoughtful selection of mesh Ultraboost coil heads, you’re not going to risk scorching unless you really crank the Q-ULTRA at max power levels. And you’re not going to have a weak experience in the lowest setting, either. Instead, you’ll simply have more flexibility to craft your ideal vape with the Orion Q-ULTRA. Though I still prefer having more control and power, for a pod/AIO setup, this is about as personalized as it gets.

MTL or DL Vape Styles

If you’re interested in more traditional mouth-to-lung (MTL) vaping, a simple airflow drip tip adjustment turns the Orion Q-ULTRA into a fantastic device for these purposes. Obviously, the lower-ohm coils are a little looser and suited for direct lung purposes, but overall, the experiences are fairly uniform.

Better yet, in keeping with Lost Vape tradition for this series, the coils are durable and long-lasting, giving users a solid two weeks per coil, when used reasonably.

1600-mAh Battery

Front and Side - Skip to the end of the images gallerySkip to Navigation Skip to the beginning of the images gallerySkip to Navigation LOST VAPE ORION Q-ULTRAThe integrated 1,600mAh battery is highly efficient, but to be honest, battery life still wasn’t what we expected for the Orion Q-ULTRA. I managed about four steady hours of vaping before the device needed a charge, but given the chip’s supposed capabilities, I was hoping for all-day levels of performance. We’ve seen worse, but the original DNA-powered Orion was still better on battery life.

While nic salt juices are still likely to be the preferred formula for experienced pod vapers, I found the Orion Q-ULTRA pods and heads were more than capable of handling thicker liquids as long as you don’t chain vape and allow the wicks to recover after longer draws. And even with those juices, the flavor is still nuanced and rich — not a given using these types of devices.

Pros of the Orion Q-ULTRA:

  • Still arguably the best series of pod devices around
  • Fantastic coil performance and longevity
  • Great control and customization for an AIO pod mod

Cons for the Orion Q-ULTRA:

  • Battery life is iffy, even at 1,600mAh
  • Coils don’t seem to be cross-compatible with other Orion pods
  • Other than a few unique designs, the same device we’ve seen for a year

Bottom Line for the Orion Q-ULTRA

I feel like we’ve done this several times before, so we’re not going to label the Q-ULTRA a “must buy” or essential device. Especially if you already own one or more of these devices. But if you’re a pod/AIO vaper and haven’t experienced a higher-end edition of the format, the Lost Vape Orion Q-ULTRA is an outstanding option. Full flavor clarity, long-lasting coils and unparalleled versatility — this is what pod mods have become in 2020.
