A Preview of the upcoming review for the OBS Crius II RTA – I have to admit, I wonder why OBS isn’t a more well-known company. From the original Crius dual-coil RTA, to the stout, leak-proof Engine RTA, all the way to the recent OBS-V sub-ohm tank, the Chinese manufacturer has consistently produced top-tier atomizers with performance that easily rivals some of the biggest names in the industry.

So, you’ll have to forgive my fanboy excitement for the OBS Crius II, a compact, single-coil GTA-style atomizer designed for simple builds, with a unique style for the brand.

“ELEMENT

I find it a bit odd that OBS decided to brand this 25mm RTA as a Crius, since – other than the identifiable logo – there’s very little connection between the original and this shorter, stouter newcomer. The 3.5mL-capacity Crius II is much more compact, though no less striking, with a matching resin top-cap and drip-tip on each of the three color choices.

(In a nice touch, the Crius II will also accept any standard 510 tip, for those who want to change up the look a bit.)

The remainder of the OBS Crius II is made from highly polished stainless steel, with a Pyrex tank and matching color airflow control ring completing the design.

OBS CRIUS II RTA – Single-Post Preview – Spinfuel VAPE

What is most interesting about the Crius II is the move to a single-coil, clamp post format, versus the traditional velocity-style decks from OBS’s previous RTAs. Though it’s not confirmed at the time of this writing, the gold-plated clamp deck appears to be spring-loaded, which should make coil placement and adjustment a breeze.

Though I’ve never had a problem with flavor on OBS’s dual-coil RTAs, the Crius II appears to be a full-fledged flavor machine, right down to the somewhat-narrow center chimney section, and GTA format, which has always been a boon for flavor-first vapers.

Of course, I’ve been surprised before, and the wide-bore resin drip-tip and overall tank style speak to vapor production, as well. Plus, OBS is touting its Zirconia insulator clamp as a key selling point. While I’m not familiar with Zirconia outside of fake diamonds on home shopping networks, I trust OBS stands behind its claims of high-temperature thresholds and strong insulating properties. As always, our tests will provide those answers.

One feature that thankfully makes a return on the Crius II is OBS’s fantastic sliding side-fill system, which has proven to limit leaks and stray drops by keeping the filling to the side of the tank, rather than close to the center tube. Our fingers are crossed that it’s as well-implemented here as on OBS’s previous offerings.

My only concern about the OBS Crius II RTA is the fairly limited 3.5mL capacity, which seems a little light for a modern RTA/GTA. But much of this will likely be answered once we have a better handle on what types of vapers OBS plans to serve with the Crius II. Is it a flavor-focused device? A cloud-chucking machine? Both?
