Every box mod, atomizer, or vape accessory must have a “get”. Something that grabs the attention of the potential buyer. Something that makes it stand out among the hundreds of similar products on the market already, not to mention the hundreds more on the way. For the Sigelei KAOS Spectrum 230W TC Box Mod (or just KAOS Spectrum) that “get” is a well thought out ‘ring of light’ that surrounds the color LCD display and plus/minus adjustment buttons. But there is more to the KAOS Spectrum, read on…
About the KAOS Spectrum 230W TC Box Mod
The Sigelei KAOS Spectrum 230W TC Box Mod ($59.95 Element Vape) is one of the nicest mods by Sigelei in quite a while. It’s size, weight, and ‘basic’ body chassis is like the SMOK Alien 220W TC Box Mod, though instead of a Firing Panel on the side of the mod the KAOS Spectrum uses an oversized almost flush Firing Button. If you are comfortable holding the Alien box mod, the KAOS Spectrum will feel just as comfortable.
Color and Color
The standout features of the KAOS Spectrum is the soothing 6-Color LED light ring. The user can change the color of the light through a simple menu maneuver, and each color shines through a dense frosted glass that gives the light its soothing luminance. It’s default color is a soft blue, but after experimenting with the various options I chose this yellow/orange light. Other colors include green, red, deep blue, light blue and purple. The only thing missing is the option to randomize the colors, that would have been fun.
Naturally, this dual 18650 cell box mod is going to drain a bit faster while the light is shining, so Sigelei added the option to turn out the light altogether, leaving a dull white opaque color in its place (the color of the ring is much nicer than it sounds), or the light can shine while the box mod is on, or only when pressing the Fire Button. I chose this option for the fun of the enjoying the light and minimizing the battery drain.
Furthermore, the KAOS Spectrum 230W features a 0.96-inch TFT Color Screen, allowing for a colorful layout for the display. All the modern information is laid out in a horizontal fashion so the user can see at a glance all the vital information one needs to adjust or to keep an eye on battery life, amperage or voltage. Of course, the largest text on the display is the Wattage/Temperature setting. Although the use of color inside the display screen is nice, it’s simply icing on the cake. Battery Life is shown by way of a battery icon that displays the amount of life left in the dual batteries like a thermometer shows the temperature with rising mercury.
The KAOS Spectrum has placed the adjustment buttons above the color display, which might disorient the user for a minute or two if he or she is used to the adjustment buttons or bar set under the display. These buttons are as black as the chassis, and a backlight or a different color for the buttons would make them easier to find in moderately lit room, but it’s nothing to concern yourself with.
Sigelei uses an advanced chipset for reaching 230W with just two 18650 cells. Using the new
Sigelei chipset, the KAOS Spectrum has a wattage range of 10 to 230W and a comprehensive temperature control suite that includes adjustable TCR and TFR. If Temperature Control vaping is your thing, the KAOS Spectrum won’t disappoint.
The battery door is located under the box mod, and like other box mods with the same battery entry door, it’s easy, and fast to remove and replace depleted cells.
Considering last year’s controversy over the Fuchai 213, the Sigelei KAOS Spectrum 230W TC Box Mod is said to be the new flagship box mod for this manufacturer. I’m not about to argue this point, but for some reason, even when considering the neat light ring and colorful display, whenever I use the KAOS Spectrum I am immediately thinking about the SMOK Alien. This could be because I’ve spend hundreds of hours vaping with the Alien and only 60 hours with KAOS, but other than the light ring and display, the KAOS Spectrum is a “good” box mod. Perhaps evolutionary for Sigelei, but I don’t believe it qualifies as revolutionary.
The KAOS Spectrum is co-designed by KAOS E-Cigs and Sigelei, and for the needs of modern vapers, they both did a good job producing a powerful box mod with plenty of features, some glitz and glamour, and a box mod I found fun to use. For $59.95 it’s a tad more expensive than the SMOK Alien, but the same price as the SMOK Alien Kit, which features the TFV8 Baby Beast sub-ohm tank. Though, personally, the KAOS Spectrum is imbued with a little more ‘fun’ than the Alien mod.
