The iJoy Diamond PD270 Starter Kit Preview

Has iJoy been making strides this past year or what? It seems each new release gets incrementally better and better. Today we present a preview for iJoy’s latest venture into a proper mod/tank Starter Kit, the iJoy Diamond PD270. (available now at Element Vape)While we received our shipment last week, it’s only been a day since we opened one up. In word, the iJoy Diamond is “stunning” … In the “looks” department anyway.

The iJoy Diamond Mod has a maximum wattage output of 234W, thanks to being capable of running with dual 20700 Hi-Amp Cells. Unfortunately, these new-ish mods that use 20700 and 21700 cells have been around long enough now that manufactures no longer feel it’s necessary to include them in the Kit, but you’ll have the choice to purchase a Diamond Kit that DOES include a pair of 20700 cells, or the Diamond Kit that does not. For review purposes, we decided to opt for the Kit that does not include the 20700 cells. (it wasn’t worth the extra few bucks)

Honestly, other than being able to push more wattage through the mod, I’m not sold on this claim of longer battery life, but that’s not the point of this preview. When we do the proper review we’ll certainly test out the battery life. iJoy provides support in the way of soft silicon sleeves for 18650 batteries as well, so testing the battery life will be easy and informative. Having said that, don’t expect the full 234W if you opt for using 18650 cells with the provided adapter sleeves, instead expect about 220W. In our upcoming review we’ll tell you exactly what you’ll get. (We use Nitecore 3100mAh 35A batteries exclusively)

The iJoy Diamond PD270 is a center-mounted 510-connector Mod that can support atomizer widths up to 33.5mm. So, you know, along with a minimum resistance of 0.06-ohms, the choice of tank or rebuildable are limitless.

The iJoy Diamond Mod is powered by the IWEPAL chip, the same chip that powers the iJoy Captain (reviewed here) and iJoy Genie Mod (reviewed here). Capable of high wattage, temperature control, TCR adjustments, and ample safety protections (including PTC Protective Circuits), the Diamond Mod is possibly the slickest Mod we’ve seen in a while, though it does remind me of the Vaporesso Revenger series.

The iJoy Diamond PD270 Starter Kit includes a slightly shortened iJoy Captain X3S Sub-Ohm Tank. The X3S is 25mm in width, has a 4.2 mL capacity and uses the same coils as its bigger sibling. The pre-installed coil head is the 0.4-ohm X3-C1 Dual Coil, with a wattage range of 60-90 Watts, additionally, the Kit includes an X3-C2 (new) 0.3-ohm coil with a range of 60-100 Watts.

Unlike the previous Captain Sub-Ohm, the X3S uses a fairly standard Delrin 810 wide-bore drip tip that narrows from bottom to top, instead of a Cobra Resin drip tip. This type of drip tip might have worked, as long as the drip tip was subdued in black with maybe thin gold strips. The standard Delrin is more than fine.

After installing a couple of fully charged 20700 iJoy 3000mAh batteries from another iJoy Kit I primed and filled the tank with some Banaza Shake from Milkshake Liquids (thanks to vape-box). I chose this rich silky and flavorful banana milkshake juice in order to test the flavor fidelity and clouds (70% VG), and so far, I’m very satisfied with the tank. After a week of testing with multiple flavors and VG ratios I’ll have a much better idea how dependable the Captain X3S is.
