Vaptio Fusion AIO Vape Mod Kit Preview

We’ve spent a lot of time covering all-in-one (AIO) vape mods – in fact, we did a comprehensive list of the best AIO mod kits for 2018. So, when the compact Vaptio Fusion AIO Vape Mod Kit arrived in our offices, we immediately wondered if it would have made the cut.

Well, it’s a little early for us to make THAT judgment. But based on first impressions, the 50-watt Fusion has a lot of the qualities we look for in a good AIO mod, and might just find its way to our 2019 breakdown. Let’s take a peek before we start our testing.

Based on the size of the box, you might be taken aback by how diminutive the Fusion AIO mod actually is. At a hair over three inches high, with proportional width and depth, this is one of the most pocketable mods in our collections.

But don’t mistake lack of size for lack of performance. Even though the Fusion AIO mod is a straight wattage device – with a 50-watt max, to boot – it still hits like a freight train. The included 0.25-ohm and 0.8-ohm coils offer near identical flavor, while catering to both sub-ohm and MTL vapers, respectively.

Plus, we have to say, the Fusion has a surprising amount of heft for such a tiny mod. But, with a full protected chipset, 1,500 mAh battery, and a roomy 3.8mL built-in tank reservoir, there’s a lot of goodness crammed into a tiny space.

We haven’t addressed the looks yet, but Vaptio went for a truly unique design aesthetic here. My “fantasy” edition is a opalescent white with a resin-like swirl pattern, and it immediately jumps out of the rows and rows of black and gunmetal mods in my collection. Finally, it needs to be noted that all “communications” between the Fusion and the user is done through LED lights, which indicate battery status, errors and warnings. The lack of a display is expected on such a compact mod, but we’ll have to see if this affects enjoyment, or if it might be a problem for newcomers to advanced vaping.

So far, the internal 1,500mAh battery has given us a good amount of longevity. With a 50-watt limit, this certainly isn’t going to drain cells like a 200-watt cloud chucker. But we’ve been pleasantly surprised with how well the Fusion performs, both in flavor and vapor production.

The top-fill tank is a breeze to open and use, with minimal difficulty getting liquid in there without leaking or splashing. And the coil replacement is equally simple, with a user-friendly design that doesn’t even require you to screw it in. Just prime the coil, push it in and reattach the top cap. Within seconds, you’re back up and running.

Other than monitoring battery power and the occasional flashing error message, the Fusion AIO mod kit is truly a “fill it and forget it” kind of mod, with simple, one-button functionality. The built-in atomizer and proprietary coils offer some versatility for MTL and direct lung vapers, though we haven’t seen a heck of a lot of difference between the coils, nor did the airflow control ring make a notable change in the draw quality.

Of course, we’ll test this a lot further as the week goes on. But it’s pretty apparent that the Vaptio Fusion isn’t designed for versatility. Instead, it’s aiming to be a reliable, predictable experience for vapers who want flavor and vapor without anything else to do.

With any AIO vape mod this straightforward, there are going to be some questions about long-term use and viability. For starters, we wonder about how a 50-watt limit is going to perform in a marketplace full of 100+ watt devices.

While few vapers actually use all this power, having that headroom has proven to be a key selling point for companies. Is there still a market for such a low-wattage mod in 2018, even for beginners?

Speaking of which, is the Fusion AIO mod kit TOO limited for beginners? While pod systems and entry-level vape pens are purposely simple, an AIO kit is likely a user’s first step into more advanced vaping. But the lack of display (except for the LED lights) and adjustment buttons might serve to be a hindrance to newcomers trying to understand what their vape devices are doing.

The Vaptio Fusion AIO vape mod kit is certainly an intriguing little device. On one hand, it’s a tight, simplified, quality vape mod with good performance right out of the gate. On the other, it’s a beginner device that might not offer enough control to satisfy curious newcomers.
