The holidays are coming, and I feel like I’m getting a little early-season spoiling from our editors. Because the Think Vape Finder is another awesome-looking DNA250 device headed toward my desk. Sure, the DNA mechanics are getting a little long in the tooth, but the operating system simply works, with Escribe customization that remains the industry standard.
But, unlike so many DNA250 devices that purposely under-throttle the board to guarantee performance, the Finder is going full-on with power capability, aiming for an effortless 250-watt maximum using three 18650 cells.
Between the three-cell format, zinc alloy frame, carbon fiber AND leather accents, and something called an “abalone shell,” the Think Vape Finder is likely not going to be the most-subtle device in your collection. The 89mm of height, heavily chiseled top section, raised 510 connection plate, and highly contrasting color schemes only reinforce this aesthetic – the Finder is all about making a commanding statement.
This forceful design is only further supported by the zinc alloy control buttons – both the large, hexagonal fire key, and the well-placed up/down inputs. At this point in 2017, I’ve come to expect enter/action buttons in addition to the standard controls, but the slightly time-worn DNA control scheme might not have a use for one in its current format.
According to the preview documentation, the Think Vape Finder will achieve a legitimate 250 watts of power, while automatically measuring and limiting the coil temperature when fired. This is just one of the many protection measures included within this deep chipset.
In addition to the excess of power features, the DNA-powered Finder mod will also allow for precise, delicate temperature control and preheat customization, both on the device, and through the free Escribe software. Also, the Finder will feature no fewer than eight programmable profiles in which to save power/temperature settings for easier accessibility.
This is a handy feature for those who don’t have immediate access to Escribe, or who may be wary of navigating deep menu trees just to make minor adjustments. For DNA veterans, the Finder is likely to be familiar and reassuring. Newcomers used to more visual, easily navigable displays will probably experience a bit of a learning curve.
In an interesting addition, the Finder will feature onboard 2-amp USB charging, which I still find odd on a three-battery device. In my experience, charging three cells in unison within a mod has proven to raise heat beyond comfortable levels. We’ll be sure to check on this when the Finder arrives in the next few weeks.
Despite this handful of concerns, one thing we never doubt is the DNA 250’s ability to perform as advertised, which is why the bold, striking Think Vape Finder has our utmost attention as we await its arrival. Expect our full, detailed review in the next few weeks.
