Blackstone Premium Eliquid Round #3
A Spinfuel eLiquid Team Review
I was very excited to get into Round #3 of the Blackstone reviews! The previous teams and I had enjoyed the first two rounds and I was excited to see how this round of five flavors would fare with this even newer team! As you may recall, Blackstone is the second and “Premium” line of eliquid made from Dream E Vapor. These flavors we will be reviewing all have the addition of crème or cream. The difference to me is that the cream additions seem richer, but both are very smooth and add a nice note of complexity as Blackstone always does with their blends. As always, the quality of some of the flavorings used is truly top notch! Keep on reading to see which flavors YOU should be checking out….
Because this is only the seventh review from the mid-2015 Spinfuel eLiquid Review Team, so we suggest that you take a look at the new protocols we’ve set up for each of the reviews we will do moving forward. You’ll need to know how long we vape the ejuice, in what manner, what we look for, and how an eliquid may earn a coveted Spinfuel Choice Award. In addition, in order to understand the scores and our comments about each one, knowing the intricacies of our methods will give you a greater understanding of the process. Click here
Blackstone Premium Eliquid Particulars
The bottle sizes that are available are 30ml and retail for $18.99 which is pretty reasonable at $.63/ml for a complex Premium Eliquid. The nicotine levels available for the dripping blend, Captain are 0mg, 3mg, 6mg, and 12mg. All of those nicotine levels are available for the dripping blend Strawman and the 60vg/40pg blends of Dragons Blood, Key West, and Old 66 with the addition of 18mg as well. Captain and Strawman are mixed at 80vg+ which are designed mostly for drippers and tanks designed to run high VG blends.
Blackstone Premium Eliquid is bottled in 30ml glass bottles with childproof glass droppers. I like the classy, sophisticated look of the line. The black labels with silver writing are neat looking and easy to read. The name is BIG and BOLD. The three main flavor components are on every label, but so are the ingredients, nicotine level, expiration date, lot number, and born on date. The size is of course listed as well as the proper warning. Everything is on the Blackstone labels and done in a structured manner that is appealing to the eye!
This is what it is all about… the flavor. We have five to cover this time out. Hi, I’m Dori, the head writer, and will kick every flavor off with my thoughts as the team follows with theirs. Remember, as always, taste is subjective and is “in the mouth of the beholder”. I do believe I’ve assembled a truly unique team. We all have different palates and I value each opinion of those on my team. Let’s see what we come up with for these for unique blends!!
CAPTAIN – Spinfuel Choice Award Winner!
“A Tahitian Vanilla perfectly blended with peppermint cream and caramel for a perfect all day vape. ”
Dori 5 Stars. Captain is a vape I will salute any day! This is a wonderful blend that starts with a light hint of vanilla before the peppermint cream takes over as I inhale. I get a touch of the caramel in the exhale, but the peppermint cream is definitely the predominant flavor and star of this vape. I like the subtle Tahitian vanilla and caramel notes and how smooth the total blend is and I vaped this for a day straight which I rarely do. I will be using a HexOhm V2 with a Production RDA and a .3ohm coil build for all of these reviews. I liked this best around 40 watts.
Alicia 5 Stars. Oh my goodness, I think I may be in love! I wasn’t sure how these flavors would mix, but wow! It’s warm, smooth, rich, and delicious. Captain is one I will definitely be vaping a lot of. The inhale delivers a smooth and creamy peppermint mixed with light vanilla and hints of caramel. The vanilla is mild and doesn’t stand out that much, which I think adds a ‘greatness’ to the layers and ‘balance’ to this flavor.
The peppermint is creamy and doesn’t have the takeover affect that normal peppermint flavors would. It isn’t bold and overpowering. It fits nicely in with the vanilla and caramel and really compliments the entire vape. The exhale continues with the creamy peppermint and then the caramel really comes out and makes my taste buds have a dance party! The caramel is amazing. It’s rich and full of flavor and reminds me of the melt in your mouth creamy caramel candies. Seriously, you NEED to try this, even if you are not a lover of peppermint! It’s definitely one of my top favorites from Blackstone!
Scott 5 Stars. Well, the captain definitely has this ships sail set! I was worried the peppermint was going to be overpowering, but it was actually a nice, mild taste. On the inhale, I got a nice mix of what seemed to be caramel and peppermint giving it a sweet, but cooling taste. The exhale was amazing because not only did I taste the caramel and peppermint, but also an amazing vanilla flavor was added in that just made this juice set sail to the top. If you’re a peppermint lover, you definitely want to give this one a try!
Dana 5 Stars. Captain is a lightly sweet peppermint cream eliquid that I enjoyed vaping very much! This is odd, as I really dislike any peppermint flavors. The peppermint is not overpowering as it is in most peppermint flavors. I really could see vaping this flavor all day long. It is a very soothing vape too. I vaped this on my Little Boy RDA built at .3 ohms on a regulated mod set at 30 watts.
Louis 5 Stars. I have to admit I was skeptical of this juice at first. I’m used to peppermint flavored anything being kind of overpowering. In this case I was glad to be wrong, because I found this juice to blend really well with the vanillas and caramels. The inhale reminded me of the soft colorful mints you get at weddings. The exhale brought out the creaminess from the vanilla and caramel. I enjoyed this cool, refreshing juice.
“Strawberries and banana’s blended to perfection with our signature cream and French vanillas. (Made with maximum VG for an intense cloud especially for drippers)”
Dori 5 Stars. I enjoy strawberry banana blends if they are done well and Strawman is a very well balanced blend. Blackstone does have a way with complex blends. I like the addition of the crème and how smooth it makes this flavor. On the inhale, I feel like I am biting into a fresh banana first and the crème swirls in quickly to make it a creamy banana. The strawberry is very subtle in the inhale, but comes out more at the tip of the exhale. I still get more of a creamy banana with a subtle strawberry flavor, but I don’t mind. I never got the “candy” banana the others tasted. It did taste like a smoothie to me with the creamy banana and touch of strawberry flavor, but the banana definitely tasted more natural to me than a ton of banana eliquids that I have tried. This is simply delicious!! I vaped this between 40-50 watts.
Alicia 4.5 Stars. Strawberry Banana smoothie anyone? This is your classic creamy strawberry and banana vape. It reminds me of smoothie. On the inhale, I get banana and crème with notes of strawberry mixed in. The exhale delivers a stronger creamy strawberry with hints of banana lingering. The crème gives this a thicker flavor feeling and adds just the right amount of sweetness. Like Louis, the one downfall for me on this is that the banana reminds me more of a banana candy flavor than real banana. I’m not one for the candy banana flavoring. If I’m having a strawberry and banana vape, I want to taste real fruits. But, even with that being said, it’s still a good flavor. On my HexOhm v2.1 with my Flawless Production RDA built to .23, I get a lot of vapor and a very light throat hit.
Scott 5 Stars. Well I think Blackstone pulled this one off. Strawman is one I would definitely vape every day. The only thing I did not like was that the banana was more of a candy banana taste. The blend of the strawberry and banana was very well done. I didn’t notice much of the crème part. On the inhale, I noticed the strawberry. On the exhale, you could taste the banana mixed in with it. This juice made a nice dense cloud with a great aroma that everyone could tell exactly what the flavor profile was.
Dana 4.5 Stars. Strawman has a nice, sweet strawberry on the inhale and a candy banana flavor on the exhale. I agree with Alicia and would have rated this at 5 Stars if it would have had a fresh, ripe real banana flavor. I like the touch of cream added in which rounds out the flavor of this eliquid. I vaped this on my Doge RDA built at .24 ohms on a regulated mod set at 40 watts.
Louis 5 Stars. This juice almost exactly replicates a strawberry banana smoothie. I got the strawberry banana flavor mainly on the inhale while I found more of a banana cream flavor on the exhale. It even leaves a banana taste in your mouth and it lingers in your cotton for a while. Don’t get me wrong, I really liked this juice, but I did find the banana flavor to be intense. It reminded me of the banana flavored runt candies. Even though the banana was a little too much for my preference, this is still a pretty good juice. It could even have a chance to be part of my daily rotation.
“Dragon Fruit and mixed berries mixed with our signature cream base for an exotic vape.”
Dori 4 Stars. I am honestly just not sure what to think of Dragons Blood. I enjoy the exhale more than the inhale. The inhale is a lot of the dragonfruit flavor and it’s pretty intense. It tastes a little off to me almost. As soon as the berries and cream start to mix in, it tastes better. By the exhale, I don’t mind it at all. It is definitely smooth and full of flavor. I tried this from 30-50 watts. When I bumped it up to 60 watts, I got more of the cream right off the bat, but still thought this wasn’t my favorite in the round up this time from Blackstone.
Alicia 5 Stars. Dragons Blood is a light and pleasant vape. It’s not the strong, tangy in your face fruit flavor and that makes me enjoy it just a little more. The cream doesn’t stand out, but I think it is what tones down the fruit and berries to make it a lighter flavor. I didn’t get any of the “off” taste like Dori or Louis had found. Dragon Fruit is the dominant flavor throughout the inhale and exhale. The inhale is a nice and mellow dragon fruit with hints of berries tucked in. The exhale is more of the dragon fruit with almost a floral undertone. It’s sweet but mellow and a nice flavor combination. I’m not big into fruity vapes but I can see myself vaping this a couple times throughout the week while I enjoy a summer evening with a glass of wine.
Scott 4.25 Stars. This one was a very unique flavor. I would have probably given it a higher star, but just like Dori on the inhale I got a really off flavor. I feel it was because the dragon fruit was so overpowering. The exhale was very enjoyable because it had an amazing mixture of berries and crème. The flavor lasted all the way through, but I still got a hint of the dragon fruit making it a little easier to enjoy. So if you like dragon fruit flavored vapes, this one might be a good one for you.
Dana 4 Stars. Dragons Blood has a strong dragon fruit flavor on the inhale and a sweet berry and cream on the exhale. I would have given it a higher rating if the flavor wasn’t so on the inhale. The dragon fruit taste was just too much for me to enjoy this eliquid. I vaped this on my Little Boy RDA build at .3 ohms on a regulated mod set at 35 watts. The higher I went with the wattage, the more the dragon fruit flavor came out. Louis 3 Stars. As soon as I opened up this bottle of juice, I could smell the sweetness of the exotic fruits. It smells absolutely delicious-and that’s where that ends. The taste of the juice wasn’t nearly as strong as the smell. I couldn’t really tell what exotic fruit it was going for and I wasn’t impressed by the berry flavor, which I found to be kind of dull and not very sweet. There’s a chance I would have liked it if the taste was more similar to the wonderful smell.
“After scouting for the best key limes to make the world’s best cheesecake, it was Key West that produced the amazing tart key lime that takes this creamy key lime cheesecake by storm. If you like Key Lime eliquid this vape will blow you away vape after vape.”
Dori 5 Stars. I have a different opinion than Alicia on this one. I started this out at 70 watts and it was pretty yummy! I dialed it down to 50 watts and it was even better. I am not a fan of Key Lime anything to be honest. I even used to make it weekly to serve in a restaurant I ran and never stole a slice. This eliquid makes me want to make a cheesecake and try it out! On the inhale, I can taste the key lime and cheesecake in a nice, even blend. I even get the graham crust note of the cheesecake. The crème mixes in nicely during the inhale as well and it’s just a very tasty vape. I believe you should check this flavor out no matter what you are into. It is a nice change up for any flavor routine one may be in….
Alicia 4 Stars. Key West is a decent key lime cheesecake flavor, but I’ve had better. The crème isn’t noticeable to me at all. The inhale is Key Lime with just a slight touch of cheesecake at the top of the inhale. If I hadn’t known the flavor profile, I more than likely wouldn’t have even picked up on the hint of cheesecake due to it being that subtle The exhale is full flavored key lime with no crème or cheesecake added. Like I said, it’s a decent vape but it could be a lot better. The key lime flavor is nice and leaves a decent aftertaste. It’s not harsh or sour and really would make for a nice cheesecake flavor, if there was more cheesecake. This has a mild throat hit and decent vapor production with minimal flavor in my opinion. Scott 5 Stars. Well, I think Blackstone pulled it off one. This is one I would definitely be in my everyday Vape. The only thing I did not like was the banana was more of a candy banana taste. The blend of the strawberry and banana was very well done. I didn’t notice much of the crème part. On the inhale I notice the strawberry but on the exhale you could taste the banana mixed in with it. This juice made a nice dense cloud with a great aroma that everyone could smell.
Dana 5 Stars. I’m with Dori on this one. Key West reminds me of eating a fresh Key Lime Pie. It tastes like smooth, lightly sweet key lime on the inhale and creamy goodness on the exhale. I really enjoyed this flavor, as it wasn’t too sweet or too tart. I could see vaping this flavor all day long. I vaped this on my Doge RDA built at a .24 ohms on a regulated mod set at 45 watts.
Louis 4.25 Stars. I was really pleased with the smooth creaminess of this ejuice. It immediately had a tangy key lime pie flavor on the inhale and it ended with a creamy key lime cheesecake on the exhale. I normally don’t like cheesecake-flavored things but it was a good pairing with the key lime. Overall, I thought this was a really good tangy, but sweet and smooth juice combination that produced a really nice flavor.
“Blends of the finest tobacco’s with our berry mix and vanilla cream give this tobacco blend a unique twist on tobacco. If you’re an x-smoker or a vaper who wants a tobacco base this one will hit the spot.”
Dori 2 Stars. Old 66 is just not the route for me to take. I didn’t really care for this blend at all. It took me awhile to notice any berry, but then realized it was at the tip on the inhale right before the cured tobacco took over. I guess it’s the cured tobacco with the funky taste. It is an off cigar flavor maybe. I have never been into cigars to be honest, but this reminds me of what a bad cigar blend would taste like. This has definitely take over as the worst in this batch from Blackstone in my opinion, but with three others scoring very high and the other right up there…one out of five isn’t bad. I vaped this on 30 watts to be able to handle it.
Alicia 2 Stars. Alright well, I fell in love with Blackstone because of their tobacco flavors. Unfortunately, Old 66 has me disappointed. The tobacco in this isn’t as good as the others I have tasted from them. Also, the berry is adding an “off” taste that I just can’t get myself to like. The inhale brings out the tobacco, but it has hints of what tastes like soap to me. The beginning of the exhale is full force berries. The berry flavor just isn’t all that good and I believe that it is causing me to taste the hints of soap. At the very end of the exhale, for just a split second, I get just a touch of vanilla. The vanilla I really like, but it comes and goes way too quickly and is replaced with more of the soapy berry flavor. Unfortunately, Old 66 isn’t one I would recommend to my fellow tobacco lovers.
Scott 4.25 OK, I must be a weird one out of the review group because I was the only one who actually didn’t mind this one. I’m not a tobacco fan, but with the berry mix and vanilla cream it gave this tobacco blend a unique twist on tobacco. On the inhale, I got a slight hint of the vanilla and a slight tobacco flavor, but the exhale was definitely an extremely acquired taste. I got a blast of berry and vanilla and a strong, but mild tobacco taste. I will say one thing after vaping this and changing my cotton, I could still get a slight hint of it for a couple vapes after changing flavors. I think if you’re an ex-smoker or a vaper who wants a tobacco base, this one will hit the spot for you.
Dana 1 star. To me, Old 66 is totally unvapable. It has a rough, green lightly sweet tobacco flavor that I just couldn’t stomach at all. It reminds me of something like an old stale cigar flavor. I couldn’t get that taste out of my mouth. I vaped this on my Doge RDA built at .24 ohms on a regulated mod set at 35 watts.
Louis 3 Stars. This juice had an old woodsy tobacco taste. It was almost a raw tobacco flavor. The vanilla that accompanies the tobacco was really nice and smooth, but unfortunately I can’t say the same for the berry. The berry flavor came out more on the exhale for me, but it was a weird soapy berry like Alicia said. It wasn’t the sweet berry I was hoping for and instead it was bitter and kind of ruined it for me. I didn’t mind the tobacco and I kind of liked the vanilla, but I would have rated this higher if the berry didn’t give off a soap like after taste.
Blackstone has proven once again that they are a line that deserves some attention yet again! The third round of flavors we reviewed received at least one 5 star rating in four flavors, and three of the flavors had multiple 5 star ratings! There was only one flavor that most of us didn’t care for, but it still satisfied one palate. The blends are all unique, most of the flavorings are done well, and the eliquid is made with 100% food grade Kosher PG/VG which is something all vendors should use if they can in my opinion. The quality of what you use in your product truly comes out in the flavor at the end. If you would like to place an order, make sure you type in Blackstone in the search window at www.vapefab.com. The prices are really reasonable for a line of this caliber. We will be covering more by Blackstone down the road, and the team and I will be looking forward to sharing our views on those flavors as well!!
As always, the team and I all have a unique way of tasting flavors but you’ll know who you relate to most after you read all of the reviews. We all have our own style. These are our opinions and it is nice to have different views sometimes on the same product.
