Best Looking Vape Mods of 2019 … so far…

The VOOPOO X-217  (review) is a virtual master class in vape beauty. From the bombproof 510 connection, to the well-done carbon fiber decals, all the way to a phenomenal 1.3-inch TFT display, there’s nothing on the X-217 that doesn’t exude professionalism and maturity. Coming from a company known for elaborate resin panels and even sliding, fidget toy-like battery doors, the X-217 is pleasingly “grown up.”

Though I did use the word “slender” make no mistake, the X-217 is a touch larger than your standard dual-18650 mods. But the smooth curves and ergonomic layout make it seem much smaller than it actually is. Even with a 30+mm atomizer connected to the top (because the X-217 can handle up to 32mm tanks without a drop of overhang).

The X-217’s front-facing fire key is color matched to a slim back plate, but otherwise, the X-217 is awash in highly polished metal and subtle carbon accents. And the display might be the best one we’ve seen in a long while. There’s nothing “standout” about it, except for how clean and legible everything is within the screen size. There are some interesting wallpapers included,  and we only hope Voopoo lets users upload their own to better personalize their experiences.

I should also mention there IS an LED light show option, which is enabled by default. I’ll leave it to you to decide what to do with it.

Right out of the gate, one thing most people are going to love about the Kanger Ranger (review) is the unique shape and feel. From the rounded curves throughout the device, to the recessed fire bar and top-tier construction quality, there’s nothing here that’s going to remind you of anything else in your collection. Kanger may have had some hits and misses over the years, but the Ranger might be the finest-looking mod they’ve made to date.

My brushed silver and black test model was a stunning combination of gloss and matte surfaces. There’s a uniform look, despite the disparate elements, and the entire package feels like a truly unified kit – a high-end piece of technology, not a toy.

This even extends to the companion Ranger tank, which adds a knurled, industrial sense of muscle to this otherwise gorgeous device. But again, despite the different surface treatment, the kit is a looker when all put together.

Like the X-217, there are LED “running lights” on the side of the device. They’re subtle, and can also be deactivated. But if you’re looking for a little flash to all this silver and black.

Like I mentioned in the initial review, the three best adjectives for the Asmodus Amighty (review)  are “strong… commanding… tough.” All good descriptors for the single 21700-compatible Amighty – a mod that somehow stands taller than most mods, is wide enough to handle 30mm atomizers without overhang, and yet never feels uncomfortable or unwieldy. Hell, you might even be fooled into thinking this is a much higher wattage device… but once you try it, you’ll realize you really don’t need much more power than this.

My gunmetal test model (it also comes in gloss black) was polished to a pristine shine, offset by a nice carbon fiber grip section, a recessed (but still clicky) fire key, and even a touch-enabled screen to keep the visual presentation as clean as possible.

The 510 connection and battery door are – as expected – nearly perfect, with zero play or wobble evident during my extended testing period. All atomizers sat flush on the spring-loaded 510 pin, and the  battery door locked into place without requiring any additional clips, sliders, magnets or bubble gum. The Amighty is precision-crafted and built to impress.

Even the companion Viento 5mL sub-ohm tank is an ideal match for the mod kit, with a broad, bold, unique look that allows it to stand out in any collection, especially when attached to this device.

At first glance the SMOK Morph (review) looks like any number of previous SMOK devices. With the touchscreen ability of the G-Priv, the smooth lines of the X-Priv, and the overall design aesthetic of the Devilkin and Species mods, there’s nothing inherently original about the look and feel of the resin-accented Morph.

But that doesn’t mean it isn’t a complete and total visual improvement on those devices. They were attractive in their own right, but the Morph simply blends those ideas into something altogether more mature and professional looking.

The touchscreen is a notable change. Though it’s not as deep as we’ve come to expect, and less menu-driven than the awesome G-Priv 2, it’s easier to use and navigate, leaving all of the basic functionalities front and center. Let’s be honest, we haven’t seen many touchscreen mods this past year because they were largely unnecessary. But the dual-18650 Morph keeps things simple, making the touch features an accent, rather than the centerpiece of the experience.

Also returning is the classic SMOK sidebar fire key, which is now clickier and more responsive than ever before. The result? The best – and best-looking – SMOK mod in years.

Over the last few months, I’ve only grown to love the rugged, rubber-coated Jackaroo (review) more. For starters, the soft, smooth rubberized coating feels unbelievably comfortable in the hands, especially on the grooved cutaways that reside on the palm side of the grip. From the moment you pick up the mod, it feels like an ideal blend of comfort and durability.

The resin (or resin-like) side panels are also well-done, maintaining the Jackaroo’s smooth exterior while creating a visually interesting contrast to the black rubber coating. The coating is IP67 waterproof material, which means you could vape near the pool without panicking. It also makes the Jackaroo look different (and arguably better) than just about  than most devices in your collection.

The round, trigger-like fire key is well-made, with a shallow throw and near-immediate response time when firing or making a menu selection. And this is made even easier with a full-color TFT screen that is clear, bright and legible without getting in the way. It’s bright, and given the limited real estate, the vertical layout does its job well.

Based on the exterior, most of you probably made up your minds about the Jackaroo from the first photos we released. But honestly, we think it’s a gorgeous, truly unique device that continues to impress us months after release.

We loved the original Vaporesso Luxe, so when the company announced a compact edition of the series, we jumped at the chance to review it. Because the NANO is a perfectly scaled-down version of its big brother, featuring the curvy, textured sides, the haptic feedback touch controls and even the outstanding, crystal clear display. But they didn’t scale back on features – instead, all Vaporesso did was lower the maximum output power and give it an integrated battery. It’s an otherwise perfect replica.

The same clicks and gestures that worked on the original Luxe are in play here, and though adjusting to the smaller real estate took a few minutes, it proved to be an amazing experience, even for a guy who prefers a little more size to his vape mods.

I’m most impressed by how the gorgeous display returns intact, with nothing left out from the original, even with a notably smaller screen. Despite the smaller fonts and graphics, it’s all there, clear as day, ready to deliver information without a concern.

There’s simply no denying how awesome the Luxe Nano looks – if you loved the look and feel of the original but want something more pocketable, your search can stop here.

Here’s something we don’t say about many squonkers – the Lost Vape Drone (review) is gorgeous. Maybe it’s my love of that amber ULTEM color scheme, but my translucent test model was a perfect balance of commanding design and subtlety. The thin black alloy framing that surrounds the colored plastic side panels makes for a mature, but still exciting visual appeal.

Of course, like most dual-battery squonkers, the Drone BF is a massive device, rivaling some of today’s triple-cell mods in terms of overall diameter. For some that will be a deal-breaker. But the centered 510 connection ensures all of today’s popular BF-RDAs will sit flush, without overhang or awkward balancing.

The DNA 250C display and menu system is just as good and usable as we remember, with a tremendously intuitive and clean interface leading the way to all sorts of customization options within the menus. The screen isn’t one of the prettiest out there – but it just fits perfectly with the overall aesthetic of the Drone.

Even the buttons, which are largely overlooked these days, have an ideal blend of click, throw and responsiveness, leading to flawless draws and precise clicks every time. This is a high-end squonk mod that feels TRULY high-end, instead of just flaunting a larger price tag for the same basic technology.

The Shogun (review)is a sleek, curvy but still “boxy” mod that reaches back a few years, to when higher-powered box mods started becoming more unique. With a centered 510 connection, well-made three-button design, 0.96-inch monochrome OLED display and removable side panel/battery slot, you’d be forgiven for thinking this came out in 2015.

But then, once you see the slick, smooth resin on both sides of the Shogun and feel it in your hands, you’ll probably forget about what’s old, and focus on what’s good. Remember, just because something was popular in 2015 doesn’t mean it’s not attractive in 2019. The resin shines because it’s made exceedingly well, like the rest of the device.

Right from the outset, it’s clear that iJoy wanted the Shogun to be like its namesake – commanding, but with a quiet authority. Because it’s certainly an attractive vape mod, but there are no distractions or silly additions to get in the way of a pure vape experience. The fire key and companion buttons are firm and responsive, and never once misfired during my testing.

Pod mods aren’t the most desired items around our offices. They’re usually too plastic-like and disposable-looking to grab our attention for very long. But recently, a more advanced group of pod vaporizers started hitting the streets, led by the SMOK Trinity Alpha.

In a shocking discovery, a SECOND squonk mod made this “best of” roundup. Yeah, I’m as surprised as you are… well, I WAS surprised, until I took another look at the . Then it all came rushing back.

Why? Wismec wasn’t being shy when it came to the Surface’s color patterns – my Picasso-like test model was awash in bright colors and bold outlines that would feel as at home in a museum as on a subway train. Perhaps this wasn’t my personal style, but as loud as it is, the paint job is done is a classy, balanced way that doesn’t become too obtrusive or juvenile.

The controls and fire key are also top-notch, as is all the machining throughout the Luxotic Surface.  While we initially had some reservations about the positioning of the squonk opening, many in our office got used to it, and are using the compact, extremely unique-looking Luxotic each and every day. Maybe it’s more for the looks than the ergonomics, but then again, that’s what this list is all about.
