Optimizing Your Joyetech Tron-S Tank on the Smok AL85 Mod

Received a Joyetech Tron-S tank from a friend and wondering about the ideal wattage settings for your Smok AL85 mod? It’s a common question when pairing different tanks and mods. You’re currently running your existing AL85 tank effectively between 55-60 watts, and curious if the Tron-S will operate within a similar range or require higher power.

The Joyetech Tron-S, while an older tank, is quite versatile, primarily designed for use with Joyetech’s eGo ONE CL coils. The recommended wattage range for the Tron-S largely depends on the specific CL coil head you’re using.

Here’s a general guide for the most common CL coils:

  • Joyetech CL 0.5ohm (DL): These coils are typically best enjoyed in the 20-30W range. Some users push them slightly higher, but staying within this range generally provides a good balance of flavor and vapor without burning out the coil prematurely.
  • Joyetech CL 1.0ohm (MTL): For a mouth-to-lung experience, these coils perform well at much lower wattages, usually between 10-20W.
  • Joyetech CL Ni (Nickel) and Ti (Titanium) Coils: If you happen to have these, they are designed for Temperature Control (TC) mode, not wattage mode. The AL85 does support TC, so if you use these, ensure your mod is set to the correct TC mode for Nickel or Titanium.

Given your AL85 is comfortably operating at 55-60 watts with your current tank, it’s important to note that the Tron-S (with its standard CL coils) will likely run at a significantly lower wattage. It is unlikely to perform well, or even safely, at 55-60 watts using the standard wattage coils. You would likely experience dry hits and burnt coils very quickly.

To find your sweet spot with the Tron-S:

  1. Identify Your Coil: First, determine which specific CL coil (e.g., 0.5ohm, 1.0ohm) is installed in your Tron-S tank.
  2. Start Low: Begin vaping at the lower end of the recommended wattage range for that coil type (e.g., 20W for a 0.5ohm coil).
  3. Increment Slowly: Gradually increase the wattage by 1-2 watts at a time until you find the perfect balance of flavor and vapor production that suits your preference.
  4. Listen to Your Vape: If you start getting a burnt taste or dry hits, reduce the wattage immediately.

The AL85 mod is more than capable of powering the Tron-S tank, even at its lower wattage requirements. Just ensure you adjust your settings appropriately to match the coil’s specifications for an optimal and enjoyable vaping experience.
