SMOK Treebox Plus Box Mod Review
When Tom bought his AsMODus Silvanusa stab wood box mod I was very impressed with it from top to bottom. However, the price tag was, for me, just a little too high for a mod that only reaches 70W. Since I’ve switched sub-ohm tanks to TFV8’s and Freemax Starre PURE’s pretty much exclusively (for personal vaping) with the lowest resistance coil heads available, 70W is simply not enough. Still, I loved the idea of a box mod made of wood, though it didn’t really need to be stab wood. So I began looking around for something and happened across the SMOK Treebox Plus, a 220W box mod with all the best SMOK technology. I picked one up through SMOK’s online store, paid a premium for it, and had to wait 3+ weeks for it to ship from China.
On the SMOK webstore the Treebox Plus sells for $79.99, on the Element Vape website the cost is a more affordable $44.95. When I think about the ‘guts’ of the Treebox Plus versus something like the SMOK Alien or X Cube Ultra, the Treebox Plus is a hell of a good value.

The obvious place to begin with the Treebox Plus is the exterior and chassis. The SMOK Treebox Plus is 3.34 inches by 2.37 inches by 1.06 inches, making it a bit larger overall than the recent SMOK Alien, but still an excellent fit in the palm of most hands. The wood used on all sides except for the top and bottom of the box mod is a high grade, 100% Brazilian Rosewood (with 9 layers of Amber Paint to assure durability) on the outside, with an industrialized Zinc Alloy material as the chassis. The mod is very light, yet sturdy, balanced, and the perfect size for most hands. From the minute I inserted a married pair of 18650 batteries, threw on a SMOK TFV8 Baby Beast (0.12Ω), I knew this was going to be a marvelous box mod.
The SMOK Treebox Plus is rich looking, elegant, and not at all some throwaway gimmick mod. I feel 100% sure that the Treebox Plus will remain in spectacular shape and serve me well for as long as I want it to. If I am still vaping 5 years from now, the Treebox Plus will still be a valuable member of my vaping arsenal.
The Treebox Plus is supposed to be the evolution of the original SMOK Treebox Mini, a 75W box mod made from natural 100% Brazilian Zebrawood. The Treebox Mini has rounded corners on one side, is much taller than it is wide, so if you want to call the Treebox Plus an evolution you’ll have to rely on both being made of Brazilian wood and using SMOK technology on the inside. I prefer to call the Treebox Plus a Brazilian Rosewood standalone, state of the art, 220W TC SMOK box mod.
SMOK Technology in the Treebox Plus
The Treebox Plus may deliver 220W of maximum power output, but that’s just a starting point. This 220W is delivered by using just two 18650 batteries. The wattage range is 1W to 220W, with a voltage range of 0.8v to 8v. Any user can fire coils down to an ultra-low 0.06Ω and up to 3.0Ω. In TC Mode the temperature range is the usual 200-600 Fahrenheit and it supports coil wires made of Nickel, Titanium, Stainless Steel (304-316L). If you use Temperature Control for vaping, you’ll find the Treebox Plus just as accurate as the SMOK Alien and SMOK X Cube Ultra. The Treebox Plus also delivers Manual TCR (Temperature Coefficient of Resistance) so the user can further fine-tune a superior TC vaping experience. SMOK’s TC technology allows you to vape simply by auto detecting the wire material and setting the TCR value automatically.
I spent a little time in TC modes for this review (I’m not a fan of TC wires so I usually refrain from TC Vaping these days) and I found the Treebox Plus to appear to be very accurate and very stable.
SMOK Treebox Plus Controls, Display, Buttons….
Along with the excellent Brazilian Rosewood exterior and the 9 layers of amber paint, the large, bright, OLED Display is recessed into the front side of the mod. Instead of “cheaping out” and using the zinc alloy metal on the front side of the mod SMOK brings the Rosewood all the way around, cutting slots for the display, fire button, and Plus/Minus buttons.
The Treebox Plus is offered in Black or Silver, meaning the top, bottom, and buttons are either black or silver metal. I bought the black one, and the black fire button and adjustment buttons looks phenomenal above and below the recessed display. Each of the buttons have a sturdy bezel ring around them to protect the wood exterior and to provide stability to sure-footed buttons. CLICK FOR LARGER IMAGE
Batteries are inserted from the bottom by removing a hard plastic battery cover (it slides in and out). They are placed plus side up, negative side up, side by side. Also on the bottom of the Treebox Plus is a “firmware-only” micro-USB port. I have listed all the formal features and specs for the SMOK Treebox Plus below.
The Real World Report
As you may have already guessed, I love the SMOK Treebox Plus. Then again, this has been a banner year for SMOK, they have been releasing the best vape gear all year, and the last two devices, the Treebox Plus and the Alien, are now my favorite go-to box mods. Their sub-ohm tanks, the TFV8 models and the Minos are superb tanks with wonderful flavor and awesome cloud production. The competition has a fight on its hand, and with the upcoming release from SMOK of the Blacksmith Templar, an Evolv DNA200 mod with incredible good looks, the G-PRIV, the (can’t wait to review this mod!), IMP 220 and the Paisley Box, SMOK is going to be very hard to catch any time soon.
Before these new mods reach vapers hands in the US, there is this beautiful, smooth and polished Brazilian Rosewood marvel, the Treebox Plus. Even after spending more than 3 weeks with it I still find it hard to believe that Element Vape is selling it for just $44.95. When did you ever think such incredible devices, made with the finest materials, the highest technology, and the vast array of features would sell for less than $50?
Considering the fact that there is hardly a time when a box mod is not in my hands, the Treebox Plus mint condition looks is astounding. Whether or not you need 220 watts, the Treebox Plus is just too damn gorgeous not to want in your collection. And I don’t like harping on the price, but, come on, $44.95 for such a high power, state of the art, Brazilian Rosewood box mod? I recommend this great mod to anyone. With the holiday’s fast approaching, this is a great box mod for the vaper in your life, and for yourself.
Final Grade: A+
“In both quality and workmanship the SMOK Treebox Plus is one of the finest box mods out there. It doesn’t matter if you need 75W or the full 220W, at $44.95 this is one mod you can’t pass up. I love it!”
