While I’m not the type of Vaper that enjoys MTL, or mouth-to-lung vaping, I admit that holding the new Eleaf Basal sort of makes me wish I did. I haven’t yet tried vaping CBD e-juice (Cannabidiol) with it yet, but if it works, as I suspect it will, I’m going to highly recommend it as a CBD vaporizer and atomizer. Until then, let’s take a look at what it is, and what we might hope to see when it comes time to deliver our in-depth review.
The samples we received from Eleaf are Rose Gold, the exact shade of Rose Gold that Apple has used on their iPhones and iPads, and a beautiful brushed steel. The third finish for the Basal is a deep gold. In a word, the Basal, in any of these finishes, is ‘gorgeous’. Had Eleaf decided to release it in red/blue/green, etc., I doubt it would have worked. The Basal is way too elegant to be mired in primary colors.
The Eleaf BASAL has a remarkably thin profile with a sophisticated visual appeal you don’t expect to see in today’s e-cigarette market. Its all-metal finish is not only gorgeous, it’s certainly durable.
Because the Eleaf Basal is so thin you’ll instantly recognize that the device is powered by an internal battery. That battery is 1500mAh, capable of outputting up to 30 watts. 30 watts means longer battery life, and the 2A charging will provide wicked fast recharging.

The Eleaf GS Basal 1.8mL Atomizer (Tank)
The Basal Starter Kit includes a newly designed, all stainless steel, GS Basal Atomizer that features an airflow system that utilizes both a wide airflow slot as well as a series of tiny air holes for precise airflow throughout the tank. The GS Air coils are said to be optimized for flavor. Whether you’re looking for a sophisticated device for simple variable wattage MTL vaping, or a new device for your CBD oils and juices, you just might find it in this new Eleaf Basal kit.
With any MTL vaping device, thinner eliquids will work better than High VG juices. While I spent an hour vaping with a High VG juice, I plan on trying both coils with a 50:50 or 60:40 blend. My results will be reported in the upcoming review.

The Eleaf Basal Kit
Expectations for the Eleaf Basal Kit
Initial vaping experience with the Basal and the GS atomizer clearly demonstrates a MTL vape experience. Not a device I’ll use, unless it performs well with CBD juice, as I indicated above. However, the coils are designed as flavor coils, and so far, I believe it to be true.
My first battery recharge time for the Basal was a fast 30 minutes, so we’re expecting this fast recharging to continue.
While I have no idea about the price, I suspect we’re looking at about $35-$50 retail. I have a feeling the success of the Basal will depend on how much of an investment an MTL Vaper will want to make. However, if the Basal turns out to be an excellent CBD device, it’s popularity could be huge in that marketplace alone.
Variable Wattage – No Temperature Control – I didn’t expect the Basal to be a Variable Wattage device. I wish I knew Eleaf went with VW and not Direct Voltage. Beginners will be playing around with wattage settings until they find their sweet spots, while Direct Voltage would have provided a plug and play vape. I’m not complaining, being able to fine-turn the wattage depending on the e-juice used in the atomizer could definitely be of benefit to the Vaper.
Supplied with atomizer are a small .75-ohm coil and a 1.2-ohm coil with Kanthal heating elements and organic cotton. Replacing the coil, as well as filling and refilling the tank, is done in the old-fashioned way of unscrewing the base of the tank, and either filling the tank to the inner post point, or unscrewing the coil and replacing it with a new one. Like the atomizers of old, the tank can never look 100% filled. Even the juice capacity, 1.8mL, reminds us of the earlier days of vaping.
MTL vaporizers and tanks seem to be gaining momentum these past few months, much like the rise in popularity of Squonkers. If the MTL market is expanding then the Eleaf Basal might be do very well on looks alone. We expect to be able to report back in our review how well the Basal performs against other MTL devices.
At press time, we’re not sure which of our partners will be carrying the Basal Starter Kit. When we find out we’ll let you know.
Look for our review in the next week. The Basal should be on Vendor shelves by December 15th. By then I’ll have had time to try out some various VG/PG blends and some good CBD juice.
