The Simple (not Simplistic) Sense V-Jet Kit Preview
“Simple” has such a bad connotation. Especially to vapers, who tend to want devices loaded with features – features they may never even use. Sense, a company best known for its stellar sub-ohm tanks, like the Herakles Plus, just defied this thinking and released the Sense V-Jet 230W TC Starter Kit, with a chipset that screams “simple mod.”

In fact, they’re calling it the SVL – “simple vape life” – chipset, and it drives one of the most user-friendly interfaces we’ve seen so far. Maybe Sense is known for its tanks – and there is a good one included in the box – but we think there’s a lot of potential in SVL, and we can’t wait to give it a thorough test this coming week.
At first glance, the dual-18650 Sense V-Jet IS a simple mod. The ergonomic shape and two-color scheme seem clean and well-designed, but doesn’t appear to be anything vapers haven’t seen 100 times before. Three front-facing operation buttons sit beneath the TFT screen, while a large, rectangular fire key adorns the right side of the device.
The offset 510 connection is press-fit, but seems very sturdy, and most tanks and RDAs fit atop the V-Jet flush, with no overhang. However, notice I said “most.” The one atomizer that didn’t fit right was the namesake V-Jet sub-ohm tank that comes right in the box.
In a very strange circumstance, the companion V-Jet tank has a sizable gap when attached – as in, I could fit a small flathead screwdriver in the space between the 510 and the tank bottom. We’ll be curious to see how this affects performance when we test it, or if it is corrected when honest reviews begin to hit the community.

A Simple Mod to Use

Sense has created a system that will appeal to those seeking a simple mod interface, without dumbing things down to the point of frustration. Using the firm, clicky operation buttons, users of any experience level will quickly adapt to adjusting wattage, temperature, TCR, TFR and display customization settings.
The inclusion of an “action/enter” button helps eliminate the unnecessary “long press/short press” gymnastics, creating a more intuitive system all around. While the need to move the onscreen icon to “exit” to back out of a menu is a little cumbersome, it became second nature after a few minutes. It also ensures there will be fewer accidental adjustments from stray button presses.
We’re looking forward to seeing how this affects the overall experience during our testing.
A Simply Beautiful Display
One element Sense got VERY right was the gorgeous 0.91-inch full-color TFT screen, which has one of the sharpest, most vibrant displays available today. From the HTC/Android-like clock on the default screen, to the variety of colorful operating screen formats, this display is unlike any I’ve seen to date.
Sure, SMOK and Smoant have made some serious headway in bringing vape device interfaces closer to what we expect from our other mobile devices. But – without falling into hyperbole – Sense might have come up with the best use of 0.91 inches yet. The screen manages to display everything users need, in a cohesive, legible manner, regardless of which background and layout they pick.
Currently, there’s eight stock layout options available on the Sense V-Jet Mod. But with USB charging and firmware upgrading, we expect Sense to increase this number in short order.
