It feels like a long time since I’ve done a review for a Sub-Ohm Tank, mostly because they’re mostly all the same these days. I mean, how many times can you review a Top-Fill, Bottom Airflow, Replaceable Coil Sub-Ohm Tank before you’ve said all there is to say?

For some reason, the DotMod DotTank 24mm has caught my attention. It’s certainly not the first 24mm Sub-Ohm Tank, but there are a few things that made me want to review this one. First, DotMod makes seriously attractive products. There is no denying that. The colors, the fit and finish, the elegant presentation – they do it all well.

Second, the price. DotMod products are not cheap, and they are not trying to be cheap. They’re selling luxury vaping products, much like Apple sells luxury consumer electronics.

Is the DotTank a luxury Sub-Ohm Tank, or simply a well-made, higher priced tank with similar performance to many others? Let’s dive in and find out.

DotMod DotTank 24mm Sub-Ohm Tank

DotMod DotTank 24mm in Detail

The DotMod DotTank 24mm Sub-Ohm Tank is a 24mm wide, 43mm tall (including drip tip) Sub-Ohm Tank that holds 3.5mL of E-liquid. It is designed and machined from solid brass and then anodized in DotMod’s signature colors. The DotTank can be purchased in Gold, Red, Blue and Black, though I recommend the Gold (which is actually a rose gold color) or Red. They just look amazing!

The DotTank includes two 0.2-ohm replacement coils, both 316L Stainless Steel for both Wattage Mode and Temperature Control. DotMod is currently developing a 0.4-ohm coil for the DotTank, which will be Kanthal.

The drip tip is a very comfortable wide bore Delrin drip tip that fits snugly into the top cap of the tank. The top cap is a simple screw-off cap, which I prefer over slide-and-fill or quarter-turn caps.

The airflow is located at the bottom of the tank, a cyclops style airflow system with two very large airflow slots. The airflow control ring spins easily and precisely. The airflow provides plenty of air, making for an airy, flavorful vape.

The DotMod DotTank 24mm Sub-Ohm Tank disassembles into 5 pieces for easy cleaning and coil swapping. The included 510-pin is 24k gold plated.

The DotTank Coils

I received the DotTank 24mm about a week ago, and since then I’ve gone through 3 coils. The first two coils were fine, lasting about a week and a half, each. The third coil, unfortunately, burned out after just 4 days, even with a priming and careful increasing of wattage to find its sweet spot. That said, I suspect this coil was a fluke.

I’ve purchased DotMod replacement coils for other products and have always been pleased with their longevity. The DotTank coils are certainly large, with a full-bore center opening and plenty of large organic cotton surrounding the coil itself. They wick E-Liquid very quickly, and I never experienced a dry hit from any of the coils.

Performance – Flavor & Vapor

The 0.2-ohm 316L SS DotTank coils provided excellent flavor and very large clouds of vapor, from 50W to 80W. My sweet spot was 70W, which provided a dense, warm, and flavorful vape. Despite the large wide-bore drip tip, it was not a hot vape by any means, just wonderfully warm and satisfying.

Comparing the flavor to my favorite Sub-Ohm tanks, the DotTank stands up very well. The flavor is a bit better than the Uwell Crown 2, and about on par with the original Uwell Crown. It’s not quite as good as the flavor of the Cleito 120 (a tank that truly excels at flavor), but it’s certainly good enough to satisfy even the most demanding vapers.

When vaping at 70W the DotTank 24mm does use a lot of E-Liquid. Its 3.5mL capacity doesn’t last nearly as long as some of the other tanks with similar capacities, but it’s not an excessive amount of E-Liquid either. It’s about what I expected from a 24mm Sub-Ohm Tank at 70W.

What I Disliked About the DotTank

Other than the one coil that decided to die prematurely, I didn’t find much to dislike about the DotMod DotTank 24mm. Perhaps the only other thing I could mention is that the tank does warm up a bit after chain vaping, but it never got to the point where it was uncomfortable to hold or vape from.

The price could be considered a negative for some, as it sells for around $40. It’s certainly not the most expensive Sub-Ohm tank, but it’s definitely not one of the cheapest either. But you are paying for quality, and for looks.

Price and Availability

The DotMod DotTank 24mm is available from my personal favorite vendor, Vapor4Life.com, for $39.99. You can purchase replacement coils (5-pack) for $17.99.

Final Verdict

So, is the DotMod DotTank 24mm Sub-Ohm Tank a luxury Sub-Ohm Tank? Yes, it is. From the gorgeous anodized finish, to the precise machining, to the elegant Delrin drip tip, this tank exudes luxury. When you hold it in your hand, you feel its quality.

Is the performance better than less expensive tanks? In some areas, yes. The flavor is a bit better than most Sub-Ohm Tanks on the market today, and the vapor production is excellent. But I can think of a couple of tanks that provide similar if not better flavor (Cleito 120), and several that are on par for vapor production.

But, for $39.99, it’s not an overly expensive tank. In fact, for what you get, the price is fair, perhaps even a bargain. You might be paying a bit more than you would for, say, a Uwell Crown II or Horizon Arctic V8, but the difference in quality is immediately apparent. You get what you pay for.

If you’re looking for an excellent Sub-Ohm Tank that delivers on flavor and vapor production, and you appreciate elegant design and high quality manufacturing, the DotMod DotTank 24mm is an excellent choice. I highly recommend it.
