The EHPRO Raptor Sub-Ohm

Approximately 25 years since we stopped naming things after “Jurassic Park” here comes the timely EHPRO Raptor sub-ohm tank. But, while the naming scheme leaves a lot to be desired, there’s no denying how good of a vape tank this really is.

If we think of things in terms of evolution, maybe it’s only right that my current favorite sub-ohm tank is the HorizonTech Falcon, because falcons evolved from — you guessed it — raptors. In other words, it’s not QUITE the market leader, but the Raptor tank is damn close to that top spot.

Let’s see why…

The Propaganda

The EHPRO RAPTOR Sub-Ohm Tank is an innovative vaping tank entering the market segment. Pioneering the utilization of sea grass wicking fibers, a whopping 6mL tank capacity, it is also equipped with a 360° coil airflow allowing for more airflow. The coil structure evenly to creates a more fulfilling vaping experience that will blow the competition away.

Size of the Raptor

Measuring 25mm in diameter, the EHPro RAPTOR Sub-Ohm Tank is a sizeable tank, maintaining a 6mL capacity bubble glass that will cut down on the frequency of refills facilitated by a sliding top refill system that reveals a single large fill port.

Amazingly Effective Coils

Within the RAPTOR tank is the innovative replaceable atomizer core. This core is constructed from mesh wires in a single or dual fashion. Utilizing sea grass fibers for the first time as a wicking medium, it offers a long lifespan and superior flavor.

Outfitted with a dual slotted bottom airflow control ring, the EHPro RAPTOR can meter the amount of airflow rushing into the coil’s internal structure. 

Impressions/Aesthetics of the EHPRO Raptor

I’m not going to make this section very long, because by now you know the drill. Despite a name that could have led to some interesting design decisions, the Raptor is a “by the numbers” sub-ohm tank. Oh sure, it’s extremely well-made and durable, but outside of a cool-looking 810 drip tip, there’s nothing that stands out on this tank…. physically anyway.

With a 25mm diameter, a pair of mesh coils (that include a weird HorizonTech-like cotton blend for wicking), and dual adjustable airflow, you’d be forgiven for confusing the Raptor with about 100 other sub-ohm offerings. But there IS a level of quality in the machining that stands out from most of the rote and repetitious tanks on shelves today.

6mL Bubble Glass Option

I should mention here that the 6mL bubble glass is essential for getting the most out of the EHpro Raptor, since these blended coils drink juice like Conor McGregor drinks whiskey. Each steady puff creates a noticeable drop in e-liquid quantity, so prepare ahead and have a bottle ready if you’re heading out for the night.

We can’t fault them for the juice consumption — all this flavor has to come from somewhere, right? But it does get annoying after a while. Ironically, the Raptor is able to use certain HorizonTech coils, so there’s potentially a solution here, though those heads aren’t exactly frugal on liquid consumption, either.

In any case, we prefer the actual replacement coils for the Raptor Tank.

Vaping the EHPRO Raptor

Durability is the name of the game here, and the Raptor delivers in spades. Most sub-ohm coils have lifespans that can be measured in days and hours, not weeks. Yet the Raptor heads gave me nearly two weeks of moderate-to-heavy vaping before tapping out.

(We read some reviews that claimed 5-6 weeks of steady use — if that actually happened, good on them! But we didn’t experience anything close to those numbers.)

Quad Coils

Interestingly, my Raptor came with a pair of quad coils, even though there are two other varieties available. That said, once I settled in with these heads, I was floored by the sheer flavor clarity amid the massive cloud production. I know we say that a lot in these tank reviews, but just know that this isn’t a case of hyperbole — the Raptor will make your most complex juices absolutely SING at the right wattages, with distinct notes jumping to the forefront, rather than getting lost.

Purity of Flavor

To give an example, I have an older liquid that is comprised of several ridiculously different flavor profiles, including some complex tastes like hazelnut and banana pudding. In most tanks, the initial draw is identical to the exhale, with all the elements merging into an incongruous whole. It’s fine and tasty, but it’s not ideal.

Tanks like the Raptor change the game. Instead of melding, each flavor note comes through individually, with an exhale that smoothes over the brighter, sharper notes. Trust us on this one.

Pros:

• Immense flavor
• Fantastic coil life
• Relatively leak-free

Cons:

• Juice consumption is excessive
• No way to try the other coil types in this kit
• Kind of a boring look

The Horizon Falcon might be the absolute finest example of the technology available today, but the EHPRO Raptor shares an awful lot of the same DNA, making for an intense, flavorful, enjoyable vape experience that no sub-ohm fan should miss.

And for the first time in a long, long time, the results of this review are unanimous with every member of the staff. Replacement Coils were ordered just a week after each member received their EHPRO Raptor.
