The Vision Spinner II Review

by John Manzione | Nov 19, 2013 | Reviews, Vision

The original Vision Spinner was one of the first Variable Voltage batteries that actually delivered on its promise. Before the Spinner, Variable Voltage eGo batteries would degrade rather quickly. Once set to your preferred voltage, you could expect only a short while before the voltage began to drop. With the Vision Spinner, you set it and it stayed there, until the battery was almost completely drained. That was a big deal for Vapers who wanted a consistent vape, but weren’t quite ready for a MOD.

The Spinner II is the second iteration of this popular battery, and it’s been improved in several key areas. The Spinner II is a thicker, heavier battery. While the first Vision Spinner measured 14mm thick, the Spinner II measures 16.5mm thick. The length is just a few millimeters longer as well. At 124.5mm (4.9 inches), it’s not much longer than the original (123mm), but it feels more solid and substantial in the hand. It also has a bigger capacity, 1600mAh to be exact.

The Vision Spinner II has been on the market for several months now, long enough for a large number of Vapers to use it consistently. So what do they think? What do I think? Read on.

The Vision Spinner II

The Vision Spinner II is an eGo style variable voltage battery that is compatible with all eGo and 510 threaded atomizers, clearomizers, cartomizers and tanks. The voltage range is 3.3V to 4.8V and the output power is a consistent 1600mAh.

The battery has a newly designed comfortable, ergonomic spin dial for adjusting the voltage, and an upgraded and stable PCB control head. The Vision Spinner II also features a battery level indicator, so you always know how much power you have left. The LED light turns white for 60-100% capacity, blue for 30-60% capacity, and orange for 0-30% capacity. When the battery needs to be charged, the light flashes 15 times in 3 different colors.

What Vision Says

“Brand new and upgraded unique PCB control head. Improved battery cell for a more powerful and longer vaping experience. Ergonomic spin dial for adjusting the voltage. More comfortable and ergonomic design. The Vision Spinner II is built with a battery grade of Class A and has gone through strict testing.”

My Impressions

All of the above statements are true. The Vision Spinner II does have a unique PCB control head, the battery cell is definitely more powerful and longer lasting, and the ergonomic spin dial is a joy to use. The design is indeed more comfortable, and I can attest to the fact that it is a Class A battery. The Spinner II feels substantial and solid, much more so than the original.

The biggest improvement is the PCB control head. Not only does it allow you to charge the battery while vaping (pass-through), it ensures the voltage you set is the voltage you get. This is the most important feature of the Vision Spinner II. It delivers on its promise, even with repeated heavy use.

Using the Vision Spinner II

As I mentioned, the Vision Spinner II is an eGo style battery, so it’s easy to use. I can attach any number of clearomizers, cartomizers, and tanks to the Spinner II and it will work just fine. I particularly like using the new Kanger AeroTank, the Aspire Nautilus, and the Kanger ProTank 3 with the Spinner II. I also like using it with some of the more advanced clearomizers like the SMOKTech Winder and the Innokin iClear 30B.

The Spinner II works best with coils that have a resistance above 1.8-ohms. While it will fire lower resistance coils, you won’t get the full effect of the variable voltage at 1.5-ohms and lower. But then again, the Spinner II is not a MOD, and if you’re looking for sub-ohm vaping, you shouldn’t be using an eGo battery. It’s important to match the right battery to the right coils/atomizers. Spinner II is for the Vaper who wants to fine tune their vape with a wide variety of eGo/510 style tanks and clearomizers.

The Power

The Vision Spinner II offers a very impressive amount of power. It’s rare to find an eGo style battery with a 1600mAh capacity. Most eGo batteries stop at 1300mAh. With the Spinner II, you’ll get nearly double the vape time as a standard 650mAh eGo battery and about 30% more than the 1300mAh eGo batteries. This is significant for those who vape often during the day and don’t want to carry an extra battery or recharge every 5-6 hours. The Spinner II will last for a solid 10-12 hours of constant vaping, if not longer.

The Variable Voltage

The Vision Spinner II delivers consistent voltage. With a simple turn of the ergonomic dial at the bottom of the battery, you can select any voltage between 3.3V and 4.8V. A small tick mark indicates the current voltage setting. Each tick mark is a .3V increase (3.3V, 3.8V, 4.3V, and 4.8V). You can of course set the voltage in between these tick marks for a wider range of selections.

Once you’ve selected the voltage, the Spinner II will keep that voltage until the battery is nearly depleted. You’ll notice the output drop when the LED changes from blue to orange, but it will deliver excellent power even then. The variable voltage feature is the main reason to buy a Vision Spinner II, and it performs beautifully.

The Look and Feel

I mentioned earlier that the Vision Spinner II is slightly thicker and heavier than the original. That added size and weight adds to the feeling of quality. The Spinner II feels good in the hand, solid and durable. The black color has a nice sheen to it, not glossy, but not flat matte either. The chrome accent pieces are well made, and the LED light glows brightly behind the button. All in all, the Vision Spinner II is an attractive, well-built battery.

Charging

The Vision Spinner II charges like any other eGo battery. You screw it into a USB eGo charger, and plug it into a USB port on your computer or a wall adapter. The LED on the Spinner II will glow orange while charging and turn off when fully charged. The LED on the USB eGo charger will glow red when charging and green when fully charged. It takes about 4 hours to fully charge a completely depleted battery. While it doesn’t include a USB charger, most Vapers already have several of them.

Battery Life

With a full 1600mAh of power, the Spinner II will last for about 10-12 hours of steady vaping, sometimes more. This is an excellent amount of time for this type of battery, and it’s one of the main reasons for its popularity. If you carry two fully charged Spinner II batteries, you’ll get nearly 24 hours of consistent vaping. That’s enough for almost anyone, except for the heaviest of Vapers.

Conclusion

The Vision Spinner II is an ideal choice for Vapers who want a long lasting, consistent, variable voltage battery that can handle a wide variety of tanks, clearomizers and cartomizers. It’s an ideal step up for Vapers just graduating from cig-a-likes, and a great backup battery for MOD users.

I’ve been using the Spinner II for about 6 weeks now, and it has not once disappointed me. It holds a charge well, provides consistent vapor, and performs like a champ with every clearomizer I’ve used. For its price, it’s also one of the best bargains out there.

Vision has built a better Spinner, and it shows. I highly recommend the Vision Spinner II. It’s a definite buy.
