Well, this is a first. After years of writing vape articles and reviews for Spinfuel and other sites, the Wismec Reuleaux RX Machina represents the first ever mechanical mod I’ve covered. I’ve used several mechs over the years, and have enjoyed the vapes overall, but always preferred the relative safety of regulated devices.

Looks like I’ve come a long way, baby. But, if there was ever a mech right for me to review, it would be one from Wismec, a company well-known for reliable, proven regulated devices. So, let’s take an initial look at this surprising entry into a very niche corner of the vaping world.

Mechanical mods might be minimalist by nature, but Wismec certainly made the RX Machina a sight to behold. Using a resin (or resin-like) exterior, the patterned ivory sleeve is stunning, both to the eyes, and in the hands. There is a slight texture to the material, but it’s very subtle, and provides more than enough grip for any hand.

“ELEMENT

The rest of the RX Machina is standard tube mech territory – hey, if it works, it works, right? Using either a single 20700 or 18650 (with adapter) cell, inserted via the screw-off cap atop the mod, the RX Machina draws direct power from the battery with a simple press of the bottom fire key.

Well, maybe not THAT simple. Though we haven’t gotten to test the RX Machina too deeply, we did notice the fire button required a little more pressure than most to activate the mod. Now, mech mods typically require a somewhat awkward reach to engage, but Wismec’s first attempt is stiff out of the box. Regular use will probably rectify this, but it warrants mention.

The Reuleaux RX Machina kit also comes with the new Guillotine RDA, which has some interesting items of note. On the exterior, it’s a standard 25mm dripper with a dual post configuration, adjustable airflow slots and a wide-bore drip-tip. But the deck and a huge juice well has our interest piqued more than most RDAs have in recent memory.

A closer look at the dual-post deck reveals tremendous wire slots that seem to be blocked off by impenetrable walls, yet they open with ease when guiding in your coils. The included flat wire Kanthal coils raised those walls in seconds, making it a breeze to trim and position them within the massive build deck. Then the equally massive screws secured the coils without an ounce of play.

“AVAILABLE”

The included coils seemed miniscule in comparison to the deck space, but I can imagine the coil junkies of the world having a veritable field day with their own massive builds.

One thing I love about the Guillotine RDA was the perfectly matched drip tip, which replicated the beautiful sleeve design, and completed a very nice, mature-looking rig.

As a team, we’re excited to see what a known manufacturer of regulated mods can do in the mechanical space. On a personal level, I’m excited to revisit my first mech mod in more than a few years.

Either way, the vaping world has changed a lot in a few years. Has Wismec created something that will push mechs closer to the mainstream, or are they a few revolutions behind more niche manufacturers? We’ll have the answers in a week or so, after we put the RX Machina through our usual bouts of testing.
