The SMOK H-Priv 220W TC Box Mod with the Micro TFV4 is a sleek, stealthy, and powerful Box Mod Kit that offers both excellent temperature control and plenty of power for any coil configuration. The H-PRIV is truly a high-tech vape device, and a beautiful one at that.
While the H-PRIV offers much of the same features as the X-CUBE Ultra, the appearance, weight, and price are quite different. The H-PRIV is a very lightweight device, very compact, and just as durable. Its price point is roughly $20 less than the X-CUBE Ultra.
In fact, the H-Priv offers a much more comfortable form factor than its heavier cousin. While the X-CUBE Ultra is very comfortable, it’s also a much heavier mod. The H-Priv, despite using two 18650 cells, feels like a single 18650 Box Mod. This is a huge plus for those of us that use a Box Mod for hours at a time.
The SMOK H-PRIV 220W TC Box Mod is a very attractive box mod for the price, roughly $50.00 – $60.00. The kit, which includes the Micro TFV4, sells for about $10.00 more. This review focuses on the entire kit. Let’s take a quick look at the SMOK H-PRIV.
The SMOK H-Priv is a 220W Temperature Control Box Mod (0.06Ω to 3.0Ω) that uses two 18650 cells and features a very cool hidden lateral fire bar, similar to the X-CUBE series. The mod itself offers an impressive 220W output, and when paired with the SMOK Micro TFV4 tank, it’s a powerful sub-ohm kit for clouds and flavor.
The H-Priv uses a top-loaded battery compartment, a feature I appreciate. A quick open and close cover makes battery swaps fast and easy. No more magnets to pull off, or battery doors that become loose over time.
The bright OLED display is situated on the top of the device, which makes it easy to read your critical information at a glance. It also looks very high-tech and modern.
The kit includes the SMOK H-Priv 220W TC Box Mod, the SMOK Micro TFV4 tank (2.5mL, 3.5mL expansion), two coil heads (.3Ω Micro Clapton, .25Ω Micro Stainless Steel Dual Core), replacement glass tube, USB Cable (firmware upgrades only), and a user manual.
This is a true 220W Temperature Control Box Mod that offers Wattage Mode, Temperature Control Mode (Ni, Ti, SS), and TCR (Temperature Coefficient of Resistance) Mode.
The SMOK H-PRIV in a Nutshell
The SMOK H-Priv is an aesthetically pleasing, very high-tech looking Box Mod. It feels solid and comfortable in the hand. Despite its power, it’s not a large device.
The hidden fire button, or fire bar, is easy to use, easy to find, and feels comfortable. Your entire palm feels the fire bar, and whether you are a thumb-firer or a palm-firer, it’s a natural fit.
The spring-loaded 510 connector is made of stainless steel. The threads are smooth and connect to every atomizer I own.
The OLED display is bright and easy to read. Critical information is provided in a single display screen.
The top-loaded battery compartment uses a simple open and close hinge. Just slide the battery door open, drop the two 18650 cells in, and close the door. No muss, no fuss.
A battery vent is located on the top-side of the device, above the fire bar.
The H-Priv is an upgradeable device. If and when firmware updates are released, you’ll be able to perform the upgrade through the USB Port at the bottom of the device. This USB Port is for upgrading firmware only. Do not charge your batteries through this port.

Our Experience with the SMOK H-Priv 220W TC
In the short few weeks, I’ve been using the SMOK H-Priv (and Micro TFV4), I’ve grown very fond of it. The original plan was to provide a review of the H-Priv Mod only, but after seeing the Micro TFV4 (and using it), I decided to make this a full kit review.
The Micro TFV4 is an excellent choice for a tank to include in this kit. SMOK could have gone with a cheaper, less effective tank, but they chose well. The Micro TFV4 is not only small, but it also provides a genuinely amazing vape, for both flavor and clouds. I’m happy to recommend it for just about any Box Mod.
Battery Life
Using two Samsung 25R 18650 cells (2500mAh, 20A CDR) I averaged 5-6 hours of vape time with plenty of chain vaping and fairly high wattage output (60W-80W). At 40W I pushed past 8 hours easily.
This is good battery life for a dual 18650 Box Mod. My X-CUBE Ultra, at 75W, provided the same 5-6 hours. So, no surprises here. The good news is that battery life is completely adequate for an all-day vape.
Performance
The SMOK H-Priv is a performer, plain and simple. In both Wattage Mode and Temperature Control Mode, I experienced excellent performance. The fire rate is just about instantaneous, and the stability of the output is remarkable.
I’ve used quite a few SMOK Box Mods this year and last, and each one performs exactly as it should. The H-Priv is a great example of SMOK’s engineering. While the menu system has some issues (below), the performance side of the H-Priv is top-notch.
In Wattage Mode, with the .3-ohm Clapton coil head from the Micro TFV4, I began at 50W and slowly moved up to 80W. I preferred 65W, where the flavor was truly spectacular, and the clouds were very dense and satisfying.
In TC Mode, using the .25-ohm Stainless Steel dual coil head, I set the temperature at 450F degrees (60W). Again, the flavor was spectacular, and the clouds were just as dense. The coil ramped up quickly and provided a steady, flavorful vape every time.
Usage and Menu System
The menu system is not as intuitive as the X-CUBE Ultra, nor is it as easy to navigate. It takes some getting used to.
Three clicks of the fire bar and you enter the main menu. From there you’ll need to use the up and down arrows on the bottom of the device to select the menu item you want, and hold the fire bar down to enter that menu.
It’s not an ideal menu system, and it could be simplified. But once you know how to move about the system, it becomes second nature.
Setting the wattage for TC Mode is done after entering the TC Mode. You simply press the fire bar a couple of times rapidly, and it will give you the option to set the wattage. It’s easy to miss. The firmware could easily correct this little quirk. Hopefully, it will.
Using the SMOK H-Priv is easy. While the menu system has a slight learning curve, once the settings are in place, all you need to do is vape.
Look and Feel
I’ve mentioned the Look and Feel of the SMOK H-Priv 220W TC Box Mod throughout the review, but I want to state it again: this is a great looking device, and it feels absolutely wonderful in the hand.
The H-Priv is a truly ergonomic device. Even with the Micro TFV4 attached, it’s compact, comfortable, and beautiful. The red finish is especially striking.

The SMOK H-Priv 220W TC Box Mod is a solid device with excellent performance. The Micro TFV4 is an excellent tank that delivers wonderful flavor and big vapor. The kit is an excellent value.
Despite the minor issues with the menu system, the overall experience with the H-Priv has been one of pure satisfaction. SMOK has consistently released high-quality box mods and tanks throughout 2016, and the H-Priv is one of their best.
Final Thoughts
If you’re in the market for a high-quality, high-tech, and high-performance dual 18650 Box Mod, the SMOK H-Priv 220W TC Box Mod is an excellent choice. If you’re in the market for a complete kit with an excellent tank, then the H-Priv Kit is a no-brainer.
