How to Properly Set Up Temp Control Claptons Without Glowing the Coils

Properly setting up Titanium (Ti) clapton coils for temperature control (TC) vaping is crucial to ensure optimal performance and coil longevity. Glowing your TC coils can compromise their accuracy and lifespan. Here’s a simple, effective method to get your Ti claptons ready without damaging them.

The Setup Process

  1. Installation: Begin by securely installing your Ti clapton coils onto your RBA deck, ensuring all connections are tight.
  2. Mod Settings:
    • Set your mod to TC/Ti mode.
    • Adjust the temperature to approximately 450°F (or your preferred safe starting point for Ti).
    • Set the wattage/joules to around 20 watts. This low power setting is key to avoid overheating.
  3. Pulsing and Monitoring:
    • Initiate quick, brief pulses to the coils.
    • Continuously observe both the temperature readout on your mod and the coils themselves.
    • If the coils heat past 500°F or you notice any hotspots (uneven glow), immediately stop pulsing.
    • Gently strum or wiggle the coils with ceramic tweezers to resolve any shorts or inconsistencies.
  4. Final Readiness: Your coils are properly set when the mod consistently displays “dry coil” after a pulse. This indicates even heating across the entire coil surface without excessive temperature spikes, making them ready for vaping.

This process is often simpler than it may sound. A significant advantage of clapton coils is that their outer wraps generally do not carry current, effectively providing built-in spacing for the core temperature control wire. This inherent design helps promote even heating.

For those using standard single-wire TC coils, manually spacing your coils evenly is also a highly effective method to achieve similar results and ensure consistent temperature control performance.
