The Hellvape Dead Rabbit RDA – There’s always a little extra pressure to deal with when reviewing products inspired by vaping personalities. Simply because of the fear that a negative review might earn you the disdain of thousands of loyal fans and the respect of the vape community. Not that it would truly matter, we call them as we see them, the bad rep be damned… Well, thankfully there’s no need for concern with the Hellvape Dead Rabbit RDA – designed in collaboration with YouTube vaping personality, Heathen. This 24mm, stainless steel gem is designed for flavor, and certainly brings the clouds as well. Plus, with a unique, “drop-in” four-post deck, the Dead Rabbit is perfect for first-timers, while bringing the performance demanding drippers want.

There are a few flaws in the rabbit cage, but nothing that would stop enthusiasts from hunting this one down. Let’s see why.

Meet the Rabbit

Hellvape Dead Rabbit RDA Review Spinfuel VapeThe Hellvape Dead Rabbit comes in surprisingly benign packaging, despite its rather morbid name. The attractive, fold-out cardboard box contains a good amount of branding for both the company and Heathen, the device’s inspiration. The deceased bunny logo is cute enough to avoid invoking nightmares about departed pets, and fear in impressionable children.

I was happy to see the back of the box contained a good amount of information about the box contents and RDA features. Too many RDAs – likely because of the advanced nature of these products – assume a wealth of knowledge on the part of the buyer. Here, Hellvape lets users know what’s inside, and what they can expect from this versatile RDA.

Inside the box, a nice foam insert holds the contents together – and what a nice list it is. Users will get the Dead Rabbit RDA (complete with nicely engraved bunny logo), a nice resin 810 drip-tip, a 510 adapter, gold bottom-feeding pin for squonkers, and the usual assortment of spare parts.

In short, outside of coils, cotton and liquid, the Dead Rabbit contains everything a new dripper needs to get started – and more than enough for experienced RDA veterans to enjoy.

Build the Rabbit

Taking apart the RDA, you’ll immediately be drawn to the unique build deck. With a two-colored setup, indicating positive and negative connections, this deck takes in coils from the top, and – if angled correctly – allows the leads to slide through, eliminating the guesswork from sizing and snipping the wire.

“ELEMENT

Unfortunately, this was better in theory, than in practice. Through countless coil types, I could only successfully feed the leads through a handful of times. I found it to be more effective to snip as usual, rather than perform awkward wrist gymnastics, potentially bending otherwise good coils.

Once seated, the raised deck holds the coils in place beautifully, with plenty of room for even the most complicated builds. I managed to fit some sizable fused claptons in here, worrying that the 24mm diameter might be too narrow. I worried for nothing – master coil builders will have a veritable playground on the Dead Rabbit RDA.

Though I was concerned about pedestrian-looking side airflow providing enough flavor, the unique, sloped internal top-cap design is angled in the such a way that it effectively pushes airflow right to the coil. The subsequent flavor is magnificent – rich and full-bodied. And yes, the vapor production is on par with some of my favorite RDAs, including my beloved 25mm Goon, which remains the gold standard – though the Dead Rabbit is quickly hopping up my list.

Hellvape allows the Dead Rabbit to function as either a single- or dual-coil device, but to be honest, I didn’t enjoy the single-coil configuration nearly as much. In this setup, the flavor seemed muted, and the airflow uneven, as was the cloud production.

Plus, the stainless body heated up considerably more, even with one fewer coil. My recommendation is to use the Dead Rabbit solely as a two-coil RDA, letting this thing sing like it was meant to do.

Also impressive was the spacious 5mm juice well, which held a deceptive amount of juice, allowing me to puff for extended periods before having to refill. I was able to use a decent amount of cotton here, and it never dried out ahead of schedule, even at higher wattages.

This is also a boon for squonking fans … speaking of which…

Squonk the Rabbit...

I hadn’t used my bottom-feeder in a while, so I installed the included gold squonk pin, and fell in love. My experience with squonker pins has been hit or miss with newer RDAs; I often feel as if they’re thrown in to appease completists, rather than true ways to enhance the vaping experience. Here, Hellvape designed an RDA that maximizes its versatility by being a fantastic squonker, with leak-free performance throughout.

Finally, the included 810 Delrin drip-tip is delightful. Cool, comfortable and capable of maximum airflow, it is one of the finest wide-bore tips I’ve used to date. Though the 510-adapter is a nice touch, the Dead Rabbit really benefits from the increased airflow and mouthfeel from the wider-bore option.

Be the Rabbit…

The Hellvape Dead Rabbit RDA isn’t the most innovative, the most original, or the most attractive dripper on store shelves. But it might be the most complete. From the simplest builds to outright coil porn, the spacious, unique build deck accepted them all – and they performed beautifully.

I wish it functioned a little better as a single-coil device, and I would have loved the build deck to deliver on its promise of guess-free coil placement. But these are hardly deal-breakers. When built and wicked correctly, the Dead Rabbit’s amazing airflow produced some of the most delectable clouds of vapor I’ve seen from my collection.
