We have a confession: When we did our “Best Rebuildables” feature a month ago, we had barely spent a few days with the DOVPO x Vaping Bogan Blotto RTA. But it only took a few days for us to realize that this tank was something special. And a month later, with countless dozens of refills and builds, nothing’s changed – this might be the best RTA on the market today.

So, DOVPO got an award before getting a review — fairly common practice in this industry, but definitely earned this time around. Let’s see why.

The Best RTA

The DOVPO x Vaping Bogan BLOTTO RTA is a sizable rebuildable tank atomizer. Featuring a large 6mL bubble glass capacity, ingenious airflow control set up, and possesses a dual post build deck with four open terminals for larger exotic coil configurations.

Formed from durable stainless steel, the chassis of the BLOTTO RTA is well-crafted, protecting the included 6mL capacity juice glass from unfortunate breakage. DOVPO includes a replacement tank glass, in ULTEM, to give a different look and protective qualities to the BLOTTO.

In addition, the BLOTTO RTA is geared for single or dual coil configurations, making this an ideal tank for those that would like to learn how to build. Taking design influence from an old-fashioned bottle cap, the knurling on the BLOTTO allows for easy removal of the threaded top cap to reveal the dual fill ports.

The airflow system starts with the two sets of multi-holes on the knurled airflow control ring and inlets airflow below the coil layout and build deck, ventilating out to the bottom of the coil to create dense clouds of flavored vapor.

Impressions of the Blotto

Right away, the most striking visual element on the Blotto is the part that isn’t even attached by default — the included ULTEM bubble glass extension that turns an otherwise standard-looking RTA into a bulbous, honeybee-like tank that will garner looks no matter where you use it.

Blotto Impressions Cont…

But don’t be fooled by the potentially gaudy appearance, because the Blotto is, at heart, a simple, high-capacity RTA that is flavor-focused, and not just there for show. The stock straight glass might be a little pedestrian and low-end for high-wattage vapers, but the (also included) glass bubble extension gets the job done beautifully, with a snug fit and more than enough juice capacity to get you through the day.

Taking chassis design influence from — of all things — a bottle cap, the top-filling Blotto is supremely easy to fill, build and maintain, without any leaks or other performance concerns. But more importantly, the simple build design makes it easy for vapers of any experience level to place coils, wick and get to vaping. No muss, no fuss, no nonsense.

The deck is a raised platform design that isn’t nearly as spacious as the tank size would indicate. It’s not bad, but I found much more success with single-coil builds, since doubles often touched and shorted if I wasn’t careful. For the record, if you’re a cloud fiend and naturally opt for dual-coil builds, give the Blotto a few runs in a single-coil configuration. You might be surprised by just how flavorful and thick the vapor turns out to be.

Complaints? Well, I really only had one. The honeycomb-style bottom AFC ring might allow for more control over airflow, but it was supremely difficult to tell how “open” it was in all but the best-lit rooms. While I appreciate the subtlety, AFC rings are more about convenience, and this wasn’t.

A lot of RTAs boast about leak-free performance, but experienced rebuildable atomizer fans know that this is next to impossible, especially with a bottom-mounted AFC channel. However, DOVPO has done the impossible. In the month since this gem first arrived on our desks, we’ve enjoyed experimenting with a ton of different build and wicking styles, and not one has produced any leaks worth mentioning.

Vaping the DOVPO x Vaping Bogan Blotto RTA

In fact, let me illustrate this with a real-life testimonial. Even my best RTAs are prone to leaking from time to time, and because of that, I often choose to leave them home, opting for more-predictable sub-ohm tanks for my nights out. The Blotto is the exception, and hasn’t left my side since it landed here.

Because of the somewhat limited deck space, I’ve found simple builds to work best. My “go to” setup is a standard Kanthal clapton, wicked with standard cotton and trimmed so the leads sit JUST inside the juice flow ports. This has given me the best possible flow without having any gurgling or flooding along the way.

Even though the Blotto looks and feels like a cloud chucker, it actually produces a nice balance of thick vapor and rich flavor, likely due to the effortless wicking and complete lack of “choke points” to hinder juice flow. Refill after refill, using a wide range of e-liquids, I had no trouble keeping the Blotto in business, never having to stop and adjust.

In other words, the convenience of a prebuilt coil, with dripper-like flavor, in a leak-free package.

If there are ANY complaints or preference concerns to be had, it’s with the wide, stubby ULTEM drip tip, which does its job as expected, but might be the wrong choice for such a flavor-first atomizer. Something a little narrower might have broadened the appeal of the Blotto even further.

Pros:

  • Massive capacity with replacement bubble glass
  • Rich, nuanced flavor clarity
  • Not a leak to be found

Cons:

  • Honeycomb AFC setup is tough to read
  • Gold ULTEM bubble glass isn’t for everyone
  • Why no sliding top fill cap?

The Last Word on a First-Place RTA

RTAs are a somewhat dying breed. So when we get them, we cherish them. And when we get some as good as the DOVPO x Vaping Bogan Blotto, we cherish them a little more. What’s funny is that the Blotto’s best feature is that it does what other RTAs have promised to do for years. No leaks, pure flavor and clouds for days – that was always the rebuildable atomizer promise, and as we approach 2020 with a bullet, it seems like we finally achieved the impossible. SCORE = A
