The SMOK GX2/4 is the newest in the high-wattage box mod series from SMOKtech. A highly versatile device, it allows users to switch between a two-cell (220W) or a four-cell (350W) configuration. While many mods allow users to switch batteries out and even utilize battery sleeves, the GX2/4 is the first mod to do so by completely switching out the battery door. With a sleek design and innovative features, the SMOK GX2/4 is poised to take the vape market by storm. In this full kit review, we delve deep into the device’s various components to help you decide if this is the right device for you.

SMOK GX2/4 Kit

The SMOK GX2/4 comes packaged in the usual SMOK black and red box. The front of the box prominently displays a picture of the mod and the TFV8 Big Baby Beast, while the back lists the contents of the box and specs of the devices. Upon opening the box, users will find the mod, one two-cell battery cover, one four-cell battery cover, a TFV8 Big Baby Beast tank, two coils (V8 Baby-Q2 (0.4ohm dual coils) and V8 Baby-T8 (0.15ohm octuple coils)), one replacement glass tank, one USB charging/upgrade cable, a user manual, and spare parts. This is a very complete kit and contains everything one needs to start vaping. The only thing missing are the 18650 batteries, which are sold separately.

One of the unique features of the GX2/4 is its ability to switch between two-cell and four-cell configurations. When configured for two-cells, the device has a maximum output of 220W. When using four-cells, the device’s maximum output is 350W. Although SMOK is not the first company to produce a mod with interchangeable battery doors, they have certainly done it the best. For example, the SMOK G80 allows users to switch out battery doors, but the overall design is clunky and seems to be an afterthought. With the GX2/4, the design for the different battery door options is seamlessly integrated into the device, making it aesthetically pleasing regardless of the configuration. Let’s take a look at the specs:

Aesthetics

The SMOK GX2/4 is sleek and well-built. Regardless of the battery door configuration, the device is ergonomically sound and comfortable to hold. The large, front-facing OLED screen is easy to read and provides plenty of information, including battery life, wattage, voltage, resistance, temperature, puff counter, and preheat settings. The screen can also be customized to display information in six different colors. The side firing bar is very responsive and is a nice touch to the device.

In addition to the side fire bar, the GX2/4 has an up/down button located below the OLED screen. The buttons provide a pleasant clicking feedback when pressed, which I appreciate. The 510 connection is spring-loaded and gold-plated, allowing atomizers to sit flush against the device. Also, the TFV8 Big Baby Beast tank matches perfectly with the GX2/4, both in terms of design and color.

The SMOK GX2/4 is available in black/red, purple, gold, and silver. Each mod comes with a matching TFV8 Big Baby Beast, which makes for a very impressive looking setup. The overall color scheme is tasteful and appealing. SMOK has produced another winner in terms of aesthetics.

Performance

The GX2/4 works exactly as advertised, delivering an impressive 220W in a two-cell configuration and a whopping 350W in a four-cell configuration. I mostly vaped this device in the 220W configuration with the TFV8 Big Baby Beast. The 0.4ohm Q2 coil worked best between 55W – 65W, while the 0.15ohm T8 coil performed best between 70W – 90W. The GX2/4 ramp up time is extremely quick, delivering almost instantaneous vapor. The vapor production and flavor from the TFV8 Big Baby Beast are top-notch, especially when paired with the SMOK GX2/4. This device is definitely a cloud chaser’s dream come true, but also delivers incredible flavor.

The GX2/4 also has temperature control capabilities and allows users to make fine adjustments. I tested it with the 0.4ohm coil and was impressed with its performance. I experienced no dry hits and the temperature was surprisingly consistent. The battery life is decent at 220W, but for long-term vaping, I’d highly recommend using it in the 350W, four-cell configuration. I mostly used the device with the 220W configuration, which is still plenty of power and can get any tank chugging like a freight train. The battery life, with a two-cell configuration, is good but not great. I was still able to vape a good portion of the day before having to charge. The charging time takes about 2-3 hours for a full charge. However, I highly recommend using an external charger to prolong the life of your batteries.

Final Thoughts

SMOK has truly set the bar high with the GX2/4. Not only has it created a beautifully designed device, it has also developed a truly versatile mod. The ability to switch between two-cell and four-cell configurations is a revolutionary feature, allowing users to switch between maximum power or ultimate portability. There are very few mods on the market that provide the same capabilities as the GX2/4. The Vaporesso Revenger, iJoy Capo 100 and VooPoo Drag are all excellent devices, but none of them deliver the sheer wattage that the GX2/4 is capable of. The closest device on the market to match the versatility of the GX2/4 is the SMOK Alien, but it is not capable of a four-cell setup. If you’re looking for a powerful and versatile device, then look no further than the SMOK GX2/4.

The included SMOK TFV8 Big Baby Beast Tank is a great match for the GX2/4. It delivers excellent flavor and massive cloud production. It also matches the mod beautifully, making for a truly impressive setup. If you’re looking for a similar device, I’d highly recommend the SMOK ProColor, which is another powerful and aesthetically pleasing device.

Overall

The SMOK GX2/4 is an absolute beast of a device. It’s well-built, ergonomically sound, and performs like a champ. The ability to switch between two-cell and four-cell configurations is revolutionary, making it one of the most versatile devices on the market. It’s also aesthetically appealing, especially when paired with the included TFV8 Big Baby Beast. If you’re looking for a high-wattage device with plenty of options, then look no further than the SMOK GX2/4. This device gets a definite Buy rating.
